I feel like there's no place for stupidity in your story :/
There isn't.
Doesn't that seem unrealistic?
Not at all. Almost every science-fiction universe's motivation for it's protagonists doing something is that the bad guys are going to blow up a planet or a star system or a galaxy. I want to keep things fairly grounded - anyone that would be willing to nuke or orbital strike a planet would see pretty much everyone turn against them because there's thirteen habited worlds, and causing nuclear winter from a planetary strike is equivalent to nuking a massive city today. It isn't going to happen.
Alright, but remember that they're making a Goosebumps movie now, so stupidity in books and storytelling is very in at the moment. But but, if you really don't care about massive success and you want to maintain your integrity then that's fine too I guess.
I'd rather have no people read something I enjoy doing than millions reading something I hate doing
Ahhh, I'm just being a pain, I do like your perspective on the writing.
Eh. I like having feedback. But scientific accuracy and some sense of realism is one of my chief concerns. No pew-pew lasers, no faster-than-light travel and no rubber-forehead aliens.

With .50's in the back, that thing needs some serious weight on the barrel or it's going to feel like absolute shit to move. Go grab a stick and tape a 10lb dumbbell to the end closest to you. This is your weapon.
That's something I had not considered. Thank you.

this is a sci fi universe right? just use lasers that way your gun designs don't really have to make sense.
I'm goign down the hard scifi route. And lasers really aren't that powerful, and require a tremendous energy source to maintain, as well as being blocked by anything that can stop photons.
~The laser weapons that do exist are mounted on starships and vehicles. Railguns and plasma weapons are semi-common but are too costly to produce and maintain to make them suitable for mass deployment.
could you work in one laser? just for variety and fun?
They have a photon sniper, but the wavelength of the photons is invisible to the human eye and it doesn't go pew pew.
The main lasers in use are space-borne, and are automated ship defences to destroy micro-meteorites and as an ultra-long range anti-ship sniper, due to the travel time requiring virtually no lead on targets.
Ah yeah, sounds like you have it covered.
pretty much
just none of this bullshit

What do you mean? No planet killers?
Do you have any planet killing weapons?
Do you have any idea how much energy it takes to destroy a planet? Or to even slightly budge a natural satellite so it smashes into it in a few million years?
It's a fuck ton. And besides, why would anyone want to estory a planet? Planets are rare, and terraforming is a fucking long process. My thing is set in the mi 2600's and the first generation of habitable planets have only just finished being terraformed. there are twelve planets, no one wants to blow them up.
Keep this in mind...
I'll stick to the scientifically accurate route, thanks
I know, but if you ever decide to include a character who can blow up planets can he/she please please please please please be called Elegiac?!
that's not happening I want to stay away from every threat being something which blows up the universe It's such a boring reason for motivation

Seems like a strange place to put your maganize.
It was a combination of this And a bullpup design

« on: October 01, 2015, 05:54:42 AM »
The reload seems tedious as fuck, and only being 10 rounds seems quite limited, unless that's just a kind of DMR the super soldiers are going to spend a lot of time reloading. Bullpups are nice for conserving space, but if it's super soldiers carrying that shit it doesn't really have to be light weight. I'd up the magazine capacity, you'll probably have to ditch the *ping* to achieve that and go with standard magazine loading. Unless you get really creative and the son of a bitch spits out drums when it needs to reload.
TAR-21 has a more futuristic aesthetic over the famas imo
Like I said, the actual drawing I've got doesn't really look like a famas. But my crappy paint drawing does. I do like the TAR, though. Bullpup designs do reduce barrel length, or allow a longer barrel without being as cumbersome to carry. Plus, the rounds are big so they can penetrate the armour in use, but it means they carry less ammo. There are still more conventional guns with smaller calibers of ammo, but they don't even scratch the armour. It's a shame though. I like the ping :c

According to their (albeit pretty suspicious) stats, 99% of the active forum community has some time put into Destiny. If that's true, their activity won't change much.
I wouldn't really be surprised. They've spent almost three years now driving away their old community.
Yeah, I know. The 99% statistic just seems strange and randomly convenient.
To be fair, it says active userbase. Considering there's likely a few thousand active users.. It may only be counting the mains though, not private groups.

by phoning the copyright people and asking them "i want copyrights for my gun" "okay"

12.7mm
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL O O O O O O O O O O L
Care to elaborate? Like I said, this thing is supposed to be heavy firepower. The guys who use these kinds of things are in strength-enhancing armour systems, so the recoil from such a weapon is more or less manageable. For them.

Are we edging closer to these snotty little brats, and that fucked old man challenger getting their comeuppance?
Lol, you think that after you screencap what looks to be a legitimate apology, and continue to flip out and act like a child, that the mods will be more sympathetic to you and will comply with your wishes? You are your own worst enemy, all you've done is make yourself look worse and worse. You spew figurative shit with no relevance to the topics at hand all over this forum, you combat attacks against you with an exponentially more childish and petulant attitude than those who attacked you in the first place, and refuse to act like an adult even after those who made statements against you apologized for doing so; with you refusing to get over it and endlessly harassing the staff over minor issues?
All of this, and you expect people to be on your side?
Do yourself a favor, Elegiac. Please leave.

As a europoor, I don't get to use guns. So when I'm dsigning the ones in use for my writing, I have no idea if they're practical or not. So I'd like some help. This is a very rough 5 minute job in paint to show the reloadig system of the main rifle that is in use. It's also whyit looks like a famas. Kind of like a bullpup, but it reloads from the top like an M1 Garand (Because I love that reload system, it looks cool). Although it's using a 12.7mm round, it is in use by guys in power armour who can easily use this kind of power (Regular humans don't get these), and the massive round is designed to fight guys in heavy armour. Oh yeah, the magazine only holds ten rounds and cools in between reloads. Is this any kind of practical?

I doubt it. Plus most users just make accounts and leave. Im still in awe of how we have like 1000 accounts but only like 60 active members at best. It's just weird.
That's most forums that aren't offical forums for a developer I semi-regularly use a forum with over 60,000 accounts and about twelve active members
