I got my dad some M&Ms and a Cinema voucher and my mum the new Foo Fighters CD. Also got my aunt a selection box with a bunch of british sweets because she lives in Hong Kong and they don't sell them over there.

Oh and I got my uncle a mug from poundland that says "This mug costs £1 from Poundland" because he likes shit presents.

2017 has been pretty good for me and 2018 is looking to be even better.

395
I opened all my shit last sunday but I got a kindle and 15 quid of amazon vouchers, so I bought Starship Troopers, Persepolis Rising (seventh book of the Expanse series) and the Forever War.

Aside from that just the usual socks/ deoderant/ calendar/ selection box stuff.

Oh, I also got the new Foo Fighters album from my mum because we're going to see them in Manchester in June. Kind of cool until realising that's what I got her.

Physics in SW have always been stupid. It didn't bother me.

What does bother me is the 7km Dreadnought having a measly 24 point defense cannons.

It's like they wanted it to get destroyed.

no guys play halo 5 its the best!!!
lmao what the hell is Halo 5? There hasn't been a halo game since 2009
What game came out in 2009? All I recall was a multiplayer disc with all the maps being released for Halo 3
Oh come don't be mean to ODST.
Fantastic soundtrack and fun firefight mode but everything else about the game sucked ass and was just a building block for Destiny
Mombasa steets is comfy as fuck though

Space warfare threads on /k/ are pretty lit
The Star Wars General on /tg/ is fantastic for that too
I've only been on /tg/ a couple times. I was planning on asking their opinion on that Halo Fleet Battles board game then that day Spartan Games announced they were closing down.

I also want to add that asset creation is much more complex now than it was years ago. The increase in technology means we can have higher fidelity assets than before, but they take more time to create.

I haven't played any COD game aside from Advanced Warfare (nay) and Infinite Warfare (yay) campaign modes though.

I guess I could justify the Mandator IV Siege Dreadnought's scarce armament with the fact that those two orbital autocannons must require an immense amount of power given the massive explosion it produced.

They're basically orbital gun platforms, and the idea was probably that they would have  an escort to protect them. Hux is just a terrible naval tactician.
The First Order needs some smaller escort vessels like the Raider-class Corvette or some smaller fighter carriers like the Quasar Fire. As it stands they have ridiculously big Star Destroyers for direct engagement and an anti-ground siegeworks platform (and presumably good at taking out big ships) but no smaller/ medium sized vessels to take care of escort and patrol duties like the Acclamators of the Republic.

That said the Mandator and its fighter escort did do a good enough job of taking out the Resistance bomber squadron, a couple more fighters could have completely wiped out the offense.

I'd argue that they should be deploying TIEs immediately upon entering the system as to intercept any inbound fighters before a situation arises.
Yeah. The FO is supposed to use old Imperial vessels as a good portion of their fleet, with Imperial II-class ISD's and the like as supplementary forces. I wish they would show old, slightly upgraded vessels. I guess we have to show all "new" vessels at all times though.

One thing I liked in this movie was the presence of upgraded AT-AT'S and AT-ST'S. For once, they seen to have put some thought into the ST-era universe. Basically, if those old Imperial walkers are still solid designs, why scrap them when you could update them and still put them to good use? I liked it because it's just how real militaries operate; why not save money by just upgrading existing designs? The U.S. has been using the same heavy machine gun for a hundred years.

I did like the AT-M6 though, as I like the idea of using a walker as a gun platfrom and mounting a giant turbolaser cannon usually reserved for space combat on it.
I did like how they had AT-ATs on Krait alongside the AT-M6s. I also liked seeing how the Resistance capital ships were newer models of other ships (MC80 -> MC85, Nebulon-B -> Nebulon C etc) but I wish both FO and Resistance would stop just having TIE fighters and X-Wings and stuff.

They also made the AT-M6's at least look cool in that scene, which is something. I really didn't like their designs in the reveal screenshots.
I blame J.J. and Bad Robot for the lame FO TIE's.

It's stupid because even in NuCanon, the TIE Interceptor is intended to be the replacement for the TIE/ln, and by Endor they comprise 20% of the Imperial Starfighter fleet.

Unfortunately, J.J. had it go with what was "iconic" in TFA so we just got standard TIE's with a palette swap and some different little greeblies. I would have been fine with it if it was the same case as the FO AT-AT'S and AT-ST'S, where they were just upgraded TIE/ln starfighters, but no, they're an entirely new model.

In general the ST designs have been pretty uninspired. The only ones I don't mind are:

- FO Stormtroopers (TLJ versions with thinner mouth)

- Resurgent class SD's and the Mandator-IV Dreadnought (total armament count aside)

- T-70 X-Wings (they're the next iteration in the X-Wing line, it makes sense for them to be similar IMO, plus they're just different enough).

- AT-M6 walkers

- Upgraded AT-AT'S & AT-ST'S

Snoke's flying calzone is... Okay I guess. I still don't like that the FO, which doesn't have as many resources as The Empire, which is reflected in its higher consideration of pilot welfare (FO TIE's have shields), was able to hollow out the interior and equator of a planet *and* build a 60km wide SSD *and* build a fleet of SD's, each of which is larger than the old Imperial I & II class SD's.

I wish Snoke's ship has been an Executor-class SSD with some upgrades, or at least something that wasn't half the diameter of the DS in width. Maybe it could have a mini DS laser that took out capital ships in one shot, but took time to charge. In addition, it could serve as an Interdictor as well. That way the time constraint wouldn't have been running out of fuel and having to stay out of range, it would have been having to get away before the laser charged, but not being able to jump to hyperspace because the flagship was also an Interdictor.
It would have been really neat if Snoke's ship was actually the Eclipse, Sheev's old personal SSD from the old days. I also saw a cool idea that t Starkiller should have been a nuRepublic superweapon captured by the First Order, and that the Resistance was a group set up to fight them without publically shaming the Republic.

On a similar note I just want to see all that stuff that gets mentioned in EU about undersupplied imperial and rebel fleets using old Clone Wars era Venators, ARC-170's and whatnot, or the nuRepublic using remnants of the old Imperial Navy.

Hell, even resistance troops wearing old refurbished milsurp Clone Trooper and Stormtrooper gear would be fucking cool.

Spoiler
tbh I'm pretty triggered that some of  the stuff people are bitching about is what was good.

-Luke's character arc
-NotPalpatine getting the Maul treatment
-Rey being the daughter of nobodies

There are legitimate problems with the movie but those were great. Really concerned by the negative reactions, and what that means for 9.
Spoiler
I agree on 1 and 3 but the least they could have done was give some backstory for Snoke. Setting up a mystery then just scrapping it is just plain bad writing. If they'd at least mentioned what his goal was, how he got the funding to create the FO or even just his basic backstory about how he came to be where he was.

I like what they're doing with killing him off to let Ren take centre-stage but that doesn't excuse the fact that they literally didn't explain him at all. I shouldn't have to go to outside sources to understand who or what one of the main characters is.

Yeah but nu-wars seems even more determined to mess with physics. I mean, at least Alderaan's destruction wasn't visible in the sky of every planet across the entire galaxy and energy weapons have always travelled in straight lines.

Honourable mention to the ship that loses power and actually stops going forward lol.

The First Order not scanning on all possible wavelengths for any sign of activity was also a pretty stupid move from them too.
