Shit. I remember even as far back as 2014 he wasn't sure if he was going to last too long, and when he was hoping he'd at least live enough to see trump win.
He was a good dude. I used to talk on XBL with him a lot before he stopped being online - you could really hear it in his voice as he eventually couldn't do more than whisper. Hopefully he's a lot happier now. 1203

I've been watching a lot of Isaac Arthur's videos recently. He does videos talking about space travel, megastructures, alien life and so forth but in a pretty in-depth level.
Ahoy is also pretty cool. I love his animation style for his videos. 1205

I've just played my first match of multiplayer, human adept. Haven't started the singleplayer yet.
I can't say I'm too impressed. I don't know if I was just laggy (I didn't feel laggy but my friend said he's been having lag issues so idk) or what but I honestly didn't find the new gameplay all that satisfying. At least, not as drastic an improvement it had been made out to be. The jetpack feels okay but the boost thing is stupid and I hate it, and the weapons feel completely ineffectual against enemies even on the lowest difficulty. Plus, the hideous HUD/ display has so many confusing elements I genuinely couldn't find where it said my biotic powers had recharged. "You just need to play more and unlock better weapons" (Because I know someone will say it) That's hardly an enticing argument. Telling me to play a game that isn't fun to unlock RNG packs that might make the game more fun isn't a good argument to make me continue playing the game. Of course, I never particularly found ME3's multiplayer all that engaging either so I'm probably not the target audience. But if this is an accurate reflection of the singleplayer I can't see myself playing it for long. It isn't bad per se, just really fucking boring. All of this after one match, so hopefully it's better in the less grindy singleplayer. I got it for free so I can't complain too much though. 1209
Serious / Re: Robots / AI and Jobs - what about yours?« on: March 28, 2017, 01:10:02 AM »Say 20XX does happen and everything gets automated, what happens to everybody financially then? Does Money only circulate between the owners of these Machines/AI or will there still be a way for people with no assets to earn an income? That's about the point where you're looking at post-scarcity society. Jobs and money at that point would be a lot different and likepy more based around creative pursuits, scientific research, etc. But even then I think that in a 100% fully automated society, it's likely the concept of working a job would disappear and you'd get some sort of volunteering for your career or something. 1210

I have a 4k tv and a bluray player and I can't say I've ever noticed a large enough increase in quality to justify paying £20 instead of £10.

I never found Tarkin's face in R1 to look too off. Maybe it's because I was fully aware it was CGI anyway.

I'm browsing netflix for the first time in months. Fuck, the library of stuff is bad.
Anyway, please gib recommendations for things to watch >already seen the marvel stuff except fpr iron fist and... well, I can't be arsed with IF. Plus, I've been getting a bit bored of marvel stuff recently. >already watched the Expanse, waiting for S2 >already watched rick and morty >already watched firefly >already watched stranger things >already watched better call saul >clone wars isn't available in the uk I don't know if I'm just too specific with my tastes and there's actually a bunch of cool stuff on there or if it is all just genuinely shit. 1215

Serious / Re: We're doomed« on: March 17, 2017, 03:07:18 AM »Speaking of projections... I don't really see terraforming as a particularly viable method or one to pin our hopes and dreams on. Right now, Venus is a planet that reaches 400oC, and its atmospheric pressure is enough that for purposes of spaceflight applications it's a mini-gas giant. Terraforming requires too many materials and too much energy that I don't think it's going to be something vaguely achievable within the next few thousand years. It has some small uses in industry. Venus has transfer windows to Mars a lot more than Earth, so tugging Asteroids to Venus for refining, then sending them back out to Mars, Earth or any other world could be an option. Mars, Callisto, Titan, Luna, Mercury and Ceres are all much easier places to set up shop as you can just dig underground to hide from space radiation. The only thing Venus has is near-earthlike gravity. |
