The Flood / Re: What's Up?
« on: May 02, 2017, 05:23:21 AM »
Good question; how do we define "up" in a 3D universe? On Earth, we traditionally use the sky to mean "up", but the Earth is a sphere. We could use the ecliptic of the Solar System, which in turn is derived from the ecliptic of the Milky Way but even then, how do we define which side is up or down? Stars in the north could be used, but they come from the separation of hemispheres based on magnetic fields and the locations of who was making the maps in question.

And while the milky has a galactic plane, what about the local group? Does the universe itself have an ecliptic? Can there be a definitive up and down? What about in other dimensions? Can a fifth dimensional universe have an up?

Truly a fascinating question.

- I got my first kiss at about the right time. A girl kissed me when I was 15-16, but I've never personally kissed anybody.
- I got my first job two years late, and I hated it more than I've hated anything else in my life.
- Never passed my driving test and I'm one year overdue on that. I cannot believe that the average age for this is 20.
- I've never been on vacation with my friends that did not include my family, so one year overdue I guess.

Some of these aren't even milestones in any way.

Over here you can start doing driving when you're 17.

Myself I've been doing it since september and I'm nearly done now.
We start at 16.

It's a hallmark of American life.
Pretty much everybody gets their driver's license at 16.

Oh. Verb's post made it sound like you couldn't until you were 21.

My mistake.

>First Kiss at 15

Nope

>First full time job at 19

I guess this assumes you drop out of school instead of going to uni

>Pass Driving Test

I'm on par to reach this before I'm 20

>First holiday with friends

I don't like going on holiday

>Buy first car

I'm definitely doing that while I'm still a student

>Move out

I'm doing that this september and I'll hopefully not be coming back if all goes well

>Be a best man

tfw no friends to be that for

Altogether this list is shit.

I'm kind of happy that the only one I've ever been given is BB-8, because you can't really fuck up two circles.

Only place that's small enough that everyone's recognisable and has its own culture yet large enough for a wide array of personalities. Plus I've been here since the beginning so I know all the in jokes.

I mean, I use stuff like spacebattles from time to time but the place is so big and old it sort of feels like you're intruding and places like 4chan are cool for jokes but it's hard to have any proper discussion because of the way it works.

I remember my friend once got me to play persona 4 on his PS3 once.

I can honestly say that after two hours of playing I was just confused and didn't really understand any of what was going on. Not in the "I jumped into a game not having played its predecessors" sense but in the "what the fuck is happening what does any of this mean do i really exist" sense.

you also said you'd watch an anime as long as it was set in space

I finished watching expanse and I'm willing to stoop down to degenerate levels to get my fix

The Flood / Re: Your 6 least favorite movies?
« on: April 20, 2017, 06:13:11 AM »
I think the only film in recent memory I've watched that I can say I've actively disliked was Suicide Squad.

Terminator Genisys was kind of ehh but had some cool war against the machines stuff.

The third Hobbit film was pretty boring too.

Other than that most of the stuff I watch ranges from mediocre and not memorable (like Thor films) to pretty cool.

Gaming / Re: Battlefront 2 leaked
« on: April 20, 2017, 06:04:36 AM »
It's like people already forgot how mediocre BF1 was.

EA loves to release high budget visually striking trailers that make people go "wow", but until I see actual gameplay, I will remain skeptical about this game.

Perhaps if they would reallocate the resources and time they use to create mini Pixar films like the trailer they just released, and instead used that time, effort and money to create something unique and innovative in terms of gameplay, then we'd have something worth playing.

To be fair, DICE game's usually do look like the trailers, from a graphical standpoint.

But other than that, I can't say I disagree. With how apologetic they seem over how shit the first EAfront was and how they seem to be turning it around (Clone Wars, no season pass, getting competent writers, class system back etc), I want to be excited. The proper Battlefront II is solidly my all time favourite game, so getting a sequel that seems to at least acknowledge the originals is cool.

But I have this unshakeable feeling in the back of my mind that they'll fuck it up somehow. It almost seems too good to be true  - a AAA dev/ publisher actually listening to fan backlash and taking everything into account.

Plus, there's no other games releasing this year I'm particularly interested in so I'm sort of hoping this will be decent so I won't be stuck playing Titanfall 2 for two years.

« on: April 19, 2017, 02:45:33 AM »
So AvP doesn't take place in the same universe as say Prometheus?

I've had it explained to me that Alien and Predator are both canon to AvP, but AvP is not canon to the non-AvP franchises.

I honestly don't know. I don't think so because that would contradict a lot.

I tend to just look at Alien and Predator as two cool things and generally disregard AvP as a serious canon entity.

Wait, is AvP considered canon? I don't mind the film but I really don't care for Predators and I'd rather not have them canon in the Alien universe.

I've had it explained to me that Alien and Predator are both canon to AvP, but AvP is not canon to the non-AvP franchises.
