The Flood / So I had my GCSE awards ceremony tonight

Got to see a bunch of people from my year and teachers again. Feels weird that is the last time I'll ever see any of them (Considering I've been in that school 5 years) at all, as I'm the only one in 200 who went to the sixth form I now go to. Got certificates, listed to a boring speech that was more about someone else's self gratification than our rewards then bogged off home.

Oh yeah, and I got to wear my suit. If I had more, I'd wear suits whenever I go out, because they look cool.

The Flood / Some aircraft designs
« on: November 25, 2014, 06:47:58 AM »
Two aircraft belonging to the UCEDF (Human faction: United Colonies of Earth Defence Force)

Spoiler
HAC-266 Mosquito

An innovation around the time of the Exilion Wars, the Mosquito was designed alongside the Dragonfly for multi-use on multiple worlds. It was initially manufactured by NASARC, before the contracts were scrapped with the emergence of craft like the Challenger, though Rogue Suppliers would manufacture black market models for decades to come, keeping a steady supply of these helicopters in service among underfunded militias alongside the aforementioned cousin. The refinements to create those in rogue territories in line with cheaper, more efficient materials meant that the versions in use by 2600 were able to carry twice the payload due to half the weight of the first versions thanks to sacrificing the ancient fossil fuel system for a fission battery and thus reducing the weight. In the 2650’s, these craft would be replicated by the UCE after the loss of advanced technology factories. It can carry 3 operators, one pilot and two gunners.

Ordnance-
H3VM machine gun x2- Gunner 1+2
MJOLNIR laser (Pilot)
150x WASP Missile (Gunner 1)
150x HYDRACORE missile (Gunner 2)
2x Spectre 40mm cannons (Pilot)

Spoiler
RCF-647 Challenger (Repulsorcraft Fighter)

The Challenger is a small fighter designed as a replacement of the previous generation ships like the Bulldog and Puma. It uses magnetic repulsion in lieu of traditional engines to accelerate to incredible speeds in atmosphere, using standard propulsion in space. It also has nanoplate armour and optical camouflage systems, alongside being able to carry hundreds of missiles and change cannons between 30mm,40mm,Laser and even Banshee on a whim.
The back thrusters of the Challenger can be turned when necessary to be able to propel in almost any direction.

Being produced by NASARC only a few years before the Fall of Earth, the Challenger would never see widespread manufacture and usage due to its material cost, though small amounts would be used to guard Exodus and other HVT’s throughout the war, eventually leading the invasion of Earth.

And this one is a S'pher Venus-Class destroyer. Ignore the labelling on the image, those were done before I decided on antimatter weaponry for the S'pher and as such, they do not use missiles. Also, photobucket doesn't like me rotating the image. Also ignore the fuckin huge engine plume that I drew because I went crazy with fire.

Spoiler
First sighted at the destruction of the Aerostat Colonies of Venus, this destroyer comprises the bulk of the S'pher navy, able to teravel in atmosphere and space. It has three AM beams on the wings, with numerous point defence turrets around the hull. These turrets can form at will, making it impossible to track how many there are.

The Flood / Regarding the origins of my writing
« on: November 23, 2014, 05:28:12 PM »
I've sort of hit a crossroads with my universe. Not with the stuff regarding the immediate history, but the backstory of everything else. Put simply, I've been displeased with how a lot of stuff has turned out and the direction I went in went down a route I do not like- option 1. Option 2 is one that I have been thinking that can fit with what I have established without too much retconning.

Spoiler
Option 1 is the current setting; a species of essentially gods created all life as an experiment, before one species rebelled and managed to create a safe area in the Milky Way. Several species were created to evolve behind the S'pher lines and ultimately fight back. One species was humanity. This goes against some things I have in mind; primarily the 'long lost species' trope and 'humanity is special' trope, for reasons I'm sure do not need explaining.

Spoiler
Option 2 is different. The S'pher still invade Earth in 2654 but for different reason; they long ago declared themselves as justice bringers and dedicated to removing injustice from the universe. Humans were largely oppressive towards other species and are seen as offenders to this reasoning and must be eliminated. The various anomaly that occupy space are in fact cracks in space caused by the S'pher weaponry used in destroying planets and star systems. The Sh'Kaali are a species occupying another dimension entirely, with the risk of being allowed through the cracks if the boundaries become too weak. This ultimately keeps all the major events the same, as well as the reasoning for misplaced stars (My galaxy does not align to real star maps) and even the two endings I pondered before can be kept with minimal change. The fact that humans evolved in one of these dimensional tears is pure coincidence. I prefer this as it adds that element of randomness into the lore while keeping an overarching threat, the major events and so forth in place as well as allowing new possibilities of alternate dimensions and time travel (Though I would not do the latter as a lazy excuse, but fully plan out a motive for a potential paradox scenario) and is overall more interesting to me, as well as leaves the questions of how large the S'pher empire is and so forth while not having long lost species with ancient relics.

What do you think?

Two BTRs for each team and another at each objective with a Hovertank and C base alongside each team getting two choppers, it is damn near impossible to play Medic on OW. And this is the 360, I dread to think what CQLarge will have on it.

This is the worst map in the entire Final Stand pack, which is otherwise really fun.

Citizens of The Sep7agon, workers of Downtown, ninjas of Uptown, and all fierce souls who do what must be done! I bring you good news! We stand at the dawn of a new golden age. Where others merely survive, we thrive! Our layout is the envy of the Desticles! Our moderation is the envy of the Waypointers! Our shitposting is the envy of #OffTopic! And while I have led your efforts, it has been by your own strength that you have earned all of the envy of the Internet. They envy the shit posted by the workers in our boards, and they envy the strength of our members and moderators who wield that spam for The Sep7agon. And most of all, they envy our victories in the struggle for freedom. Because, yes, freedom is what we all work towards. Freedom from bans, freedom from drama, freedom to live as once we did before we were shackled by DeeJ! And so, to celebrate this struggle, I ask my loyal members: who among you is prepared to fight for your freedom? Who among you will risk your life in the Flood to create a new life of freedom in Uptown? Who will take this rare chance to thrive?

Very, very interesting. I've been hoping for a new non-covenant species for a while now. The idea of fringe species also hints at another recently confirmed 'addition' to the lore- or rather the confirmation of a speculated species in Halo 2's Conversations of The Universe; the Drinol.

So what are your thoughts?

The Flood / I started making a game AMA
« on: October 28, 2014, 07:56:32 PM »
So I've started making a small game in python. It's simple enough, you type in the name of your ship, and then you get the options menu for viewing upgrades, stats, entering combat or exiting. If you view upgrades, it says the amount of money you have and then proceeds to list one if three upgrades that either increases attack and reduces cool down, increases armour and increases shields.

Then you go back to the main menu where you can repeat above, see your stats (Attack, health, shields and cool down)

Attack is your outgoing damage
Health is how much damage you take before dying
Shields is a secondary layer of health that regenerates at the end of the combat session (Though health must be bought)
Cool down simply determines how quick combat is by using time.sleep(X), though I'll be using it in the ways below.

So far the combat is fairly simple though takes a few dozens lines- it checks to see if your attack is more than, equal or less than the enemy shields. If more than, the difference is calculated and applied to health. If equal, the shields go down leaving health exposed and if less that, chip away at the shields until either if the above happens. When their health reaches 0, you gain money (calculated by (Shots fired*100)+1000)

Then you go back to the menu and start again. It's in python but I'm pretty happy with how I've done so far.

In also working out the following;

Adding code to allow the enemy to fight back
Adding in an ability to dodge fire factor (Engines, countermeasures, a random number (1-100) can make this better though more armour and guns means this is decreased (Player and NPC)
Add an XP system that has requirements of levels to unlock upgrades (Doubles as a score)
Remove installed upgrades
List of previous ships and respective scores
Different difficulties, factions and classes that all affect yours and the enemy stats.

Tl:Dr I'm making a cool spaceship game and te last paragraph is stuff I'm planning on adding. I'll put it up on Dropbox once I'm happy with it. AMA.

Oh, and I'm also doing this in preparation for my A2 Level computing coursework next year. If I get the combat systems working now, all I'll have to do is add pygame support (Sprites and animations as it just runs in cmd right now) and buttons.

The Flood / Titanfall Lore
« on: October 27, 2014, 07:28:08 PM »
Inb4gaming this isn't about gameplay it's about story. Now that's out of the way..

Found this link and thought it was interesting. http://www.reddit.com/r/titanfall/comments/261kxa/titanfall_universe_lore_things_ive_learned/

Quote
Thanks to Pilot Uplink's fantastic videos, I was able to learn a lot of things about Titanfall's setting that are not very obvious from the campaign or gameplay. It is apparent that there was SOME interest in real, tangible world-building, but for whatever reason there was not sufficient time or resources to showcase the greater whole of what they'd worked on.
I don't know about a lot of you but the little teasers for the world that was being built really made me crave more story. I was disappointed with the campaign, but what I've learned has given me hope for the future of the franchise. Here is some things I've learned about the Titanfall Universe!
First, some basics I've picked up. The stuff I found most interesting is bolded for you. :)
There was a long (20 years or so?) war fought prior to the events of the campaign called the "Titan Wars". MacAllen was a pilot, and also a friend to Vice Admiral Graves. Barker was also a pilot, but rather than leaving of his own accord as MacAllen did, he was fired for being a drunkard.
The Militia's old "leader figure" was a mysterious individual called "General Anderson". He was killed prior to the events of the Refueling Raid.
The IMC's Titans are produced by Hammond Robotics - the Militia's, however, are presumably produced by an organization called "Kodi Industries". This organization is never directly referenced in game, and is only indirectly referenced in one of the Titan promotional clips as "competing technologies" - even then this reference is not by name. Despite their virtual nonexistence in game and lore, there is actual Titanfall merchandise produced that references Kodi Industries.
The IMC forcibly evicts citizens when valuable resources are discovered in a region. Those that resist are often killed. This is presumably a major reason why the Militia even exists in the first place.
Technology exists that can augment a person's strength enough to "rip a man's head off". One grunt claims he could do it "with the right gear" after being asked if he's seen a Spectre do it. Not only that, but some squads, (specifically one referred to by grunts as "Viper Squad") possess "fancy portable turrets", though for whatever reason they are not seen in game.
Spectres are still highly experimental technology, referred to by some grunts as "prototypes". They simultaneously serve to protect forces on the ground and learn from them, but they occasionally "glitch out". The "old MK IIs" had "old software" that at least once resulted in a Spectre attempting to strangle a friendly to death, likely resulting from these glitches. It apparently took about 4 men to pry it off.
Learning to wall run takes "years of training" and is "hell on your knees".
The "Stim" that is issued to pilots is so powerful that one grunt claims he "put two drops in his coffee", only to be unable to sleep for a week afterward.
The tech that allows pilots to cloak in game is two-parts. One part is more or less external, while the rest of the tech is "embedded in the skin"!
For all their augmentation, some individuals don't admire the Pilots at all, thinking of them as "freaks".
Pilots that "don't wear masks" are "covert-ops". They gear in such a way to attempt to blend in better with less significant personnel such as the Grunts.
There's an "IMC GI Bill" that promises free land on the Frontier and "cash to start" in return for service. Some Militia forces say they were "screwed over by it", so perhaps it is not as honest as they say.
Gold isn't worth much anymore. Oil, however, still is.
People have been expanding the Frontier long enough where soldiers are born and raised on the Frontier without ever having seen the Core Worlds. One guy comments that the pictures of Earth his buddy saw "must have been some old pictures".
Water is hard to get a hold of for the Militia. What they use to hydrate in place of it isn't entirely clear, but one grunt refers to it as "recycled piss". Whatever it is, it can sustain a person for months.
Some of the "rich folks" that are evicted from IMC-controlled regions secretly finance the Militia - one specific example mentioned is upgrades to Titan-repair facilities.
IMC Grunts make reference to buddies being lost to "plainclothes insurgents". It would seem that the Militia isn't above fighting dirty (not that I can blame them).
"Borium" is a bulletproof metal used for plating on carriers. It is apparently also used in the construction of Titans, or at least Titan upgrades. It seems to have no relation to real-life Borium. It also seems that the crude looking titan-like statue in "Corporate" is made of the stuff, and the Militia intends to use it to upgrade their Titans.
The massacre on the Colony is not the first case of the IMC committing atrocities on civilians.
Spectres seem to be designed to eventually take the place of pilots, according to Grunt speculation.
The grave that MacAllen is brooding over at the start of the Odyssey mission on Relic is the grave of his wife, according to popular rumor.
Simply badmouthing the IMC can get you branded a traitor or a terrorist. The IMC is very ruthless in that respect.
"Hammond's Gate" is a conflict, attack, or massacre that ended apparently very badly for the IMC, and is spoken of as a significant low point in their battle against the Militia. Apparently some IMC grunts lost family there.
It seems to be fairly common knowledge that the IMC doesn't actually pay any of the bounties they post.
There are ancient temples and ruins throughout the Frontier, not only in obvious places like the map "Swampland", but also a place mentioned in the "Freeport system". Though it -is- possible that these places are one and the same.
Radiation seems to be a major cause for concern in various levels. Outpost 207 is implied to be unmanned by anything other than Marvins due to radiation from the cannon's reactor core. On Demeter this is also a voiced concern, though readings seem to indicate that the reactors are, for the most part, not emitting harmful levels of radiation prior to the Militia's mission destabilizing the core. Pilots apparently tend to get the worst of it due to the nuclear cores that power Titans. There are inoculations supplied to Grunts to help with radiation, and it's likely that Pilots receive treatments both preventative and remedial for radiation exposure, but this isn't explicitly confirmed.
There is a different calendar used in the frontier called the "Freeport Calendar", though some still prefer the months/years used in the Core Worlds.
The IMC have apparently never lost a carrier in actual battle. At least not until the events in the campaign.
The Fliers that appear in the Airbase mission and Boneyard apparently have been encountered before in a "classified operation near Demeter".
Some Grunts reportedly have used Kraber AP Snipers to shoot parasites off of Leviathans as "target practice".
Sarah apparently trained "one of the most dangerous terrorist cells on the Most Wanted List".
Leviathans are implied to be on the same planet as the Airbase because of "experiments". This could also be why Fliers are present despite the place being "ten jumps away" from the Boneyard.
Spyglass is able to be reached by various Grunts - he is not just there to consult with Blisk and Graves alone, at least not before he is promoted to Vice Admiral.
The events of the Campaign, from the Refueling Raid to Demeter, take place over the course of about a month.
The fate of Mr. Hammond, the CEO of Hammond Robotics, is not presently clear - information suggests that if he is alive, he must be around 200 years old. Some say he's dead, some say he's more or less frozen, or his brain is attached to a computer. Whatever his fate is, he's clearly able to speak given his speech in the IMC intro to Demeter.
Dataknives are incredibly expensive, and take advantage of data ports in Spectres used for "reboots and software upgrades". It was claimed that these ports could not be bypassed, but the dataknives do so anyway.
Hammond's son is rumored to be working on some sort of projects related to "synthetic biology", rather than robotics. It is possible that this technology is related to the regeneration system in game, or just pilots in general.

The fact that Respawn was (And looking at the stuff in the map packs, burn cards, insignias and etc) and possibly is still interested in building a cool sci fi universe greatly excites me and I hope we get books someday.
