Gaming / Holiday Buying Options
« on: December 07, 2014, 11:57:47 PM »
With the holidays coming up and time off I'll be gaming more frequently in the coming weeks. In terms of what I'll be playing I've been looking for older games dating back to gameboy advance, NES, and PS2 titles. I have a large list of gameboy games in mind and am content with this, but I'm wondering what I should get console-wise.

The pricing for PS2s in my area is $50.00 and the games are around the same price (if not lower) than gameboy titles. Then there are DS titles and the compatibility with Advance games. Do I get the system that incorporates DS games and Advance games into one device, or do I get a console and a few PS2 titles with fewer gameboy titles?

I have an Advance already, but I don't really know if getting the DS is worth the investment (I don't know how many good DS games there are.

Also, what games did you folks enjoy from back then?

Feel free to discuss your own purchase queries

My only comment would have to be one path involves jumping through other people's hoops as opposed to creating your own

I am the greatest antagonist the world will ever know.
You do bring up an interesting modern factor. If someone controlled their community in part because of internet access and communication, it would be a way to establish yourself in wealth and perhaps even go unnoticed in carrying out your actions.

Like some sort of vigilante.
You could think of it this way, but I was referring more to the mobster or criminal mastermind exploiting their community for wealth and status.

Taking on an antagonist role in your city or town?
You know, the strategic, morally questionable individual pulling strings and reaping the benefits from their environment?

Everyone has been spamming... Apparently
Compared to my activity on this site since it started, even I'm spamming...
If 15 total posts after being here for two days could be considered even close to spamming.

I assume the Old Iron King is the same you face in the Iron Keep?
What did you like about it more than the others?

I think you have a point, people who invent things just realize the potential of matter in a particular way.

Realizing matter's possibility isn't really specific to any single person. I think the concept of invention is at least in some way tied to ownership. It's in the language we use, for instance. We commonly say "x invented y," we patent inventions under single individuals names (which works economically, but perhaps presumes too much overall); it seems ingrained into how we think about new things, inventions. Someone can claim right to new ideas even though people can't really own them :\

Well, if it was I'm not exactly throbbing with anticipation to find out what the real waking world is like. If this is the fantastical version of reality inherent in dreams, the waking world might be a white board and crayons for all I know.
Excuse me, that color is reserved for BasedLove.
Can users own exclusive rights to colors?

Since I have a good opportunity to ask...
Are the DLC for DS2 worth the investment? I've been contemplating their purchase but heard very little from my Dark Souls playing friends about them.

I'm doing a play-through of both games currently and the build I'm running is surprisingly fun (Dex/Str combo). There's a lot versatility in weapon choice. Magic... not at all.

Maybe it's a nightmare?
Or this too. That explanation clarifies a surprising volume of issues.

This game had the best music of any Halo game... Mostly.
I can't rule out some of the more charged Halo 3 tracks, like the stuff that plays during the Cortana scene.

Overall I think it has the best music

Behind the depicted Reaper you could add a halo ring. I think it would add to the menacing nature of the background vs foreground, establishing a theme of heroes vs their struggles.

What about emulation?
I'd rather have hardcopies myself, but sometimes it's the best way.
I don't really like the PC controls, and for GBA games I like having them on the go.

By Old games, I mean gamecube, PS2, and Gameboy Advance titles, or SNES titles repurposed for GBA.
Sorry if there was confusion :\

It really depends. I use a couple websites for buying games here:
Green Man Gaming - (I prefer them because they go through steam)
Steam - (I usually wait for Winter and Summer sales)
Good Old Games

I also check Reddit's Game Deals

You could also use a website like Steam Game Sales to look up from all the ones listed here.

Humble Bundle is great sometimes and I use it more than anything when I'm on a tight budget.
Oh woah, thanks man! This is probably the best response I could anticipate!

I'm considering getting back into gaming with a lot of older titles. The one's I'm considering seem to have fairly high prices, so I was wondering if anyone knew any sites particularly good at getting awesome old games for lower prices than what google brings up.

Thanks for your time.
