Doesn't drink, ok, yeah, not doing yourself any favours there but again whatever. Refuses to 'curse'. The Flood / Re: Things you've always been enamored with« on: October 13, 2015, 04:06:34 PM »Honestly, I didn't mind it that much. I watched it with a friend and we made dinner so that enhanced the experience. The animation was beautiful and it was refreshing seeing scenery a little out of the ordinary for Ghibli films. However, the characters were lackluster. I don't have strong impressions of any characters and the villain is far from intimidating or engaging. It's like a painting with an impressionist background contrasted against a cubist foreground.Studio Ghibli filmsI forgot these in my previous response. Miyazaki's son directed the film and after his father saw it he told him to stop making films. I'm glad he didn't listen though, because he went on to make From Up on Poppy Hill (with his father as co-writer) and I really enjoyed that. Miyazaki's a harsh critic of anime and I think that depreciates Earthsea's value as an animated film. Anything with a Ghibli moniker has an expectation of excellence, and since Earthsea wasn't it was penalized harshly, perhaps more than it deserves. If you like seeing other worlds it's not a bad choice, though something like Children Who Chase Lost voices has much similar appeal with better execution. 1264

The Flood / Planning Methods (Writing)« on: October 13, 2015, 02:05:44 PM »
How do you plan writing, writers?
I need a comprehensive plan to do anything, otherwise I'll spend hours making a few text lines and toying around with more and more abstract/nebulous concepts. I'll get nowhere. So what do you start with first? I came up with my general planning process (from working on a book idea): Themes -> Characters and World -> Plot -> Scenes Without this approach I was always lost confusing myself with how I'd order story aspects. Though it's better than before, the thematic process is the most difficult and important job of planning. For the story I want to write I'll be making arguments, and to fit all the things I want to ultimately discuss I've decided personal essays are the best way to elucidate my ideas and adapt them to fit into the story. Does anyone use different methods of planning? Is my method convoluted where simplicity would suffice? If so, where? 1266

The Flood / NSFW Things You've Learned From Dreams (also a question about consent)« on: October 13, 2015, 01:05:16 PM »
I'm apparently willing to do strange things for money. I distinctly recall one gentleman by the name of Mr. Swift desiring anal from me. While I wasn't keen of performing such an act he had a lot of money, so I endeavored to expand my discomfort zone (if you catch my meaning).
We were on a train, but at the last minute he pulls out a bag of thick, knobby sausages and wanted me to masturbate with them. I'm very uncomfortable, but not wanting to forgo the money I accepted one of the greasy schlongs and prepared to penetrate my pooper. Mr. Swift leered over me, staring into my chasm. I, starting to feel palpable distress, actually woke myself up from sheer terror. I was never so glad to wake up as I did then. The dream made me feel disturbed and filthy, but I also considered my consent in the situation. Though I consented verbally, personally I was uncomfortable, to the point whether I questioned if it was really consent after all. After all, people can use things to leverage sex (like money or status). What do you think? What did you learn in dream land? Has anyone been raped in a dream? 1271

I'm a 50/50, any day I'll be head up, head down, eyes up, eyes down to the floor It's where I watch the pennies of my life roll like cheap plastic toys gilded with copper Where is my substance? My gold center? Where can I gain some real self worth and stop being so cheap, like a crap piece of plastic Shiny exterior, synthetic interior" I didn't want the professor to feel obligated to bring band-aids when we met to discuss my poems. 1276

Which do you prefer?
I like cold and uncooked things. If I could eat meat raw I'd go at my steaks like a wolf. It's one reason I like sushi. Although throughout a multi-meal course I like temperature fluctuation between dishes. Is that weird? 1279

Other poem
Penny Men I fancy myself the dying asset I'm the penny falling certainly as a coin-flip I'm the 50/50 heads-up heads-down Eyes up, eyes down on the floor where you'll see me a debt-mason in zinc clothing I'm around to spite poor men on rainy days I'm like the humans who surely know the worth of their ways and wonder "What am I to the dollar?" Pennies are like insects There's always more Even when you don't need them. I'd be happy enough in a pocket waiting to be wasted on a horse ride in King Soopers 1285

Post things you're working on currently.
Do what you want (critique, comment, compare, etc.) I'm working on a couple of poems for one of my classes Pig's Jade Their skulls shine like jade in pig troughs. The day prior, those pigs priced the heads prior, fire in green pea-eyed want burned through jade teeth and feast on a back-wall sign, "Pig's Jade!" Staid pig teeth showed a jaded pig face. On the pig lot, shops in packed heat feat their pig feet, hooves of fine white Writhe under "Jade's" green sheets. Worms felt the dead shine from twelve feet while all the pigs see is Jade, Jade chain-links in green sheets They're wry-things in self need. Greed, the mulch-man's fire, a green sheen in skulls light the shelves, themselves in death only through jade seen Keen they might if they would hear their own screams. 1286
