The Flood / Re: Social commentary thread« on: October 17, 2015, 02:37:35 PM »In a consumerist context I can see this, and the latter part of your sentence is something she evokes in the book. The ability to decode "transmedial" (seeing characters appearing across commercials, shows, game-shows, etc.) messages (though I'd argue this isn't necessarily exclusive to "transmedial" tv experiences) lends to another type of social capital in media culture (or even in pop culture, I'd argue) which stratifies people because of their greater resources of media knowledge. It's that person you know who watches a lot of shows and makes recommendations, they have more influence over your watching decisions than someone who's new to the type of tv genre and doesn't understand the media conventions (style, themes, characters, etc.).In one of my classes I'm learning about 90s Japan trendy dramas and this is one of the subjects broached. 1035

Sometimes someone responds to one of your posts and you don't know how to answer it (though you want to), so you put it off... and end up never answering it?
If yes, I challenge you to respond to one of those posts and repost it here. You guys can also suggest things we might commonly do, yet regret nonetheless. Oh, this reminds me:
Planet earth is amazing. I need to go back and rewatch it. Also Fantasia 2000, now that I think about it. I should definitely try to watch Cosmos, World at War, and Band of Brothers (Though I hope it focuses on theaters besides Europe and the Pacific, considering I've been beaten over the head with them in all forms of media). 1038

The Flood / Re: Most unfunny comedians?« on: October 17, 2015, 01:37:45 PM »
Honestly, I'm not really a fan of standup comedy :\
Bo Burnham and someone I can't remember having an "r" in their name (not Brian Regan) are the only two I've enjoyed/quoted. Even then I still haven't seen What and I haven't bothered trying to find the other guy. I only watch standup when my friends make me. 1041

I was considering making one... but then I'd have to make one.
Also, one does not simply abandon Ginko-san once he's your avatar. 1043

Gaming / Re: Game(s) you hated at first, but grew to love« on: October 17, 2015, 12:01:44 PM »
Probably A Link to The Past.
At first I didn't really like the setting or what I was doing and as a kid it was hard to play, but after I got past the second temple I was growing to like it and then when I entered Dark World I quickly grew to love the experience. There were talking trees, TALKING TREES. It was a new thing for me. 1046

True. I love just looking into a clear sky and seeing planes flying overhead. I like chemtrails. They're like reverse sled tracks on a bright, snowy day. |
