Serious / Re: Hey protesters, some people actually have jobs and a life« on: November 28, 2014, 08:46:29 PM »Look, I'm not going to shit on a dead man like some people here, but the idea that Brown was wholly innocent and the officer was totally unjustified in his use of force is bullshit. Things likely could have been done differently, and better, though.lol @ people supporting these protesters. The officer was not indicted. There was not sufficient evidence to charge him with anything. So I think taking a hard line on him being a dirty racist pig is pretty silly. A lot of the protesting and rioting is happening because, and only because, Brown was a black man. Do I think the FPD, and many police departments need change? Yes, I think institutional racism does exist in police departments across the US, especially in the south. I find the militarization of police forces nationwide very disturbing. That said, this was not an instance of racial profiling or discrimination. Was officer Wilson justified? I cannot say. But the courts have seen all the evidence out there and they don't seem to think he committed a crime. 334
Serious / Re: US Army "On a mission for both God and country"« on: November 28, 2014, 06:57:23 PM »
I live in an Army town, and I know a lot of Rangers, current and former.
This attitude is almost universal among those guys. I see a lot of "infidel" bumper stickers, too. This may come as a surprise to some of you guys, but soldiers are usually pretty ignorant, simple-minded guys. There are obviously exceptions, but grunts are, generally, not very smart. This goes all the way to the top-tier special forces guys as well, if any of you are familiar with the Chris Kyle/Jesse Ventura spat. A good portion, maybe even the majority, of the Army sees our involvement in the middle east as a holy war, a new crusade against islam. I've spoken to some vets, including my former scoutmaster, and they all had very disturbing things to say about muslims. The Army itself may try to present a face of multicultural secularism as a way to bring in recruits, but it is very much a christian-controlled institution, with all of the discrimination and favoritism that entails. 335

I've shot quite a few.
Don't own any myself yet. Not old enough to own one legally. Very interested, though. Unfortunately my mother is very anti-gun, and my dad doesn't hate the idea, but it makes him uncomfortable. 352

From what I hear he is completely heartbroken. This was a terrible accident, and is truly a tragedy. Blame is a little irrelevant here. Nothing will bring the child back. Some of you ITT really need to dial down your tone, as well. Show some respect. No, blame IS relevant here. The parents are most to blame for not giving their child common sense and not supervising him, especially at his age What good is there in deciding someone is at fault when there were mistakes made by everyone? 353
