Im hoping to start making my own knives from blanks and hopefully swords if I get good enough. nice, that's a daunting task but If you have the materials and experience I could imagine you making some pretty awesome shet 8165
The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 29, 2014, 09:13:33 PM »True, it's got a decent shape to chop someone's shoulder or head with, but if you look at something like a Kopis or Falcata, you can tell with one look that those were designed to chop someone past their shield. a common technique was to slash the kneecaps/legs and follow up with an abdominal stab, so the gladius was versatile in the sense that it was a thrusting sword that had decent cutting ability. 8166
The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 29, 2014, 09:01:17 PM »I've always wanted a falchion Falcatas are also pretty sweet 8167
The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 29, 2014, 08:56:19 PM »I would argue that the gladius would be very effective at both cutting and thrusting, the very acute point would be excellent for thrusting, but the broad blade and slightly curved edges would make it very effective for chopping. you'd be right, as many ancient combat methods utilize the gladius in cutting maneuvers to incapacitate foes before a lethal stab, however the ability to cut is completely dependent on the model of sword, with the Pompeii gladius obviously more suited for a combined thrusting role compared to earlier variants I do admit albion can be over priced, but you do get what you pay for, that sword your looking to buy is pretty intimidating lol, i'll probably try to save up for more of a germanic/scandinavian style blade after i get mah gladius 8168
The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 29, 2014, 08:52:06 PM »I imagine he's buying it for historical purposes. that is one factor that I find appealing 8169

The Flood / Re: Gladius problem« on: August 29, 2014, 02:23:51 PM »What are you going to be using it on? Buy a machete. it's fun as hell to test these swords on my invasive bamboo grove, although the gladius is primarily a thrusting weapon. It's just a hobby of mine i guess, I like this shiet. 8174

predictability. The milkman, the paperboy, evening tv? How did I get to living here? Somebody tell me please! This old world's confusing me. With clouds as mean as you've ever seen Ain't a bird who knows your tune. Then a little voice inside you Whispers, Kid don't sell your dreams, so soon Everywhere you look, Everywhere you go There's a heart (There's a heart) A hand to hold onto. Everywhere you look, Everywhere you go There's a place, Of Somebody who needs you Everywhere you look. When you're lost out there and you're all alone, A light is waiting to carry you home. Everywhere you look. Everywhere you look. (Chip-a-dee-ba-ba-dow) |
