This was a bit of a troll post. The "a bit" part is worrisome. You seem to be more educated then I expected. I'm about to get a Master's degree in criminal law and I wrote my Bachelor's thesis on this exact subject, so I like to think I know what I'm talking about. But how is the above quote wrong? Criminals have no cares for the law They do, though. This is known as the lawbreaker paradox. Just because criminals, by definition, have broken the law, doesn't mean that they do not abide by any of them.
Why do we still have any sort of laws? Why do we impose speed limits and other traffic regulations? After all, "criminals" by definition will not follow the rules anyways. Why do we have laws against rape, murder and violence when "criminals have no cares for the law" in the first place, as you said? Aren't all laws useless, then? The good people, those who won't rape and pillage and murder, would behave properly without a piece of paper signed by lawmakers telling them what to do. And the bad people, who as you say don't care about any laws, are going to ignore these rules anyways. So what's the point in having any law?

Laws are necessary for a society to function and survive. Just because some people don't follow some of them, doesn't mean that they are (all) obsolete. Limiting access to firearms and making it substantially harder for criminals to obtain them has only had good results. "Even imperfect efforts to restrict gun availability to high-risk people can reduce illegal gun use on the margin, even if these regulatory barriers can be overcome in a number of ways by those who are determined to obtain a gun".

In the U.S., in places where guns have been virtually banned, the crime rate hasn't dropped as much as other parts of the country, in some places it has actually risen. Do you have a source on it actually rising? Even the "worst" cities in the US have found their crime rates decreasing.
The problem with these areas are that they are (and have been) the so-called crime capitals of the US. These are cities and places that have had long histories of gangs and organized crime. Chicago, for example, is the traditional gangster city, which is now ridden by gangs. Using these cities as an example that gun control doesn't work is tantamount to putting a bandaid on a festering and gaping bullet wound and then claiming bandaids are useless for any medical treatment because the person ends up dying. Despite the fact that these areas are usually "islands" of stricter gun regulations surrounded by other counties and states with substantially looser gun laws, which results in most of the guns used in these crimes are simply bought elsewhere and then brought into the cities, violent crime has actually significantly decreased after stricter gun control was implemented.
Ask yourself this. Do these cities have a lot of crime because they have strict gun control? Or do these cities have strict gun control because they've always had a lot of crime and would be considerably worse off if the criminals there had easy access to firearms?
