reminds me of this really ghetto but hands on zoo in Poland. You were put into this huge territory full of native animals and encouraged to explore for yourself. I remember encountering a pack of wolves eating a fresh deer carcass. While their behavior and body language was nearly identical to domestic dogs when interacting with each other, it's when they noticed me that their mannerisms were radically different.
I had been kneeling down when they spotted me, every single member of the pack looking right at me with an unreal intensity. What I presumed to be the alpha signaled two of the wolves to start walking towards me as the rest stood near the kill. Most people are used to approaching dogs in a symbiotic fashion and whether consciously aware or not, both domestic dogs and their human counterparts seek to recognize each other's emotions. In the case of the two wolves, the lack of feedback was primitively disturbing. No tail movement, change in posture, darting of the eyes.. just a raw stare and a slow creep. the wolves were independently analyzing me.
after getting a few feet too close I decided to rise from my crouched position in the face of the two wolves, and with a medium pitched yelp from the pack leader, the scouts returned to their meal, eyeing me as I walked on.

I used to have this nightmare about a really creepy clown that would come and take me from my parents. Like he would drag me away and I would try to scream but I couldn't make a sound. It would happen like every night when I was little.
Then the dreams stopped. A year later they came back, but this time I was in the grocery shop with my mom. He peeked around the corner and pointed and smiled at me. So I pulled a shotgun off the shelf and shot the shit out of him. Like I shot him and it sent him flying into the shelf and I walked up and emptied the gun into his head at point blank.
Then the dreams stopped for a while, and it came back AGAIN. This time it was a lot less scary for some reason even though there were like 100 clowns. I had a machine gun and I was just mowing these motherfuckers down. I was gunning them down and running to the parking lot to get into the car which was being driven by my parents and I killed them all and escaped. I had that dream a few times and it always played out differently with me not yet escaping but not being capture either. The last time I had the dream though I killed ALL of them and escaped though.
That creepy grocery store and those clowns never bothered me again. I've always wondered about those dreams. Why clowns? I never had clowns in my life or a bad experience with them. Why the being dragged from my parents and the paralyzing fear? And most interestingly, why did I suddenly stop being afraid almost completely and just get really violent? Crazy stuff.
Hmm now that is interesting, being haunted by recurring nightmares and then ending them within a dream by killing the thing that is tormenting you.
That was how I resolved several tormentors, not just gollum. There was a dog in one, which I uh... hate how that one ended but way back when I was terrified of dogs. Zombie nightmares ended too when I kind of shot myself to avoid killing my dog. Funny how it works like that <_<
