Its up to interpretation. The ending had the movie go from calm sci-fi to crazy sci-fi IMO. Got even more deep then it already was fast. I think what you described fits the ending, but the only concrete evidence is Cooper throwing that theory out towards the end. It might be another advanced species helping us survive to their level, who knows. I guess that's part of the fun. It kind if creates a paradox though. How did we survive to go back and help ourselves if it was us? There would have to be some Multi-universe stuff going on or it's impossible...one big paradox

I'm going to be honest, that sold it to me more than the trailer.
I'm not in the loop when it comes to movies, I didn't even know thsi was a thing.
It's not the greatest movie ever made but it's outstanding IMO. I went in blind. Gotta say it's a little slow but I don't mind and if you enjoy sci-fi, space, adventure, you'll love it. Also Alfred is in it (the Nolan trilogy actor whose name escapes me). The ending is a little silly but cool.
