Speed limits as a whole are bullshit scam to generate more revenue for cops and should be abolished or replaced with advisory speed limits which you can't be ticketed for violating.
Interstate and highway speed limits are more of an EPA-esque state level gasoline usage reduction scheme.
And in most of the interstate systems, cops generally tolerate people going up to 80-85. (which is a perfectly safe and sensible speed)
It's just the handful of asshole cops who fuck things up.
There simply aren't enough cops to ticket everybody who speeds. They're not 'assholes' for doing their job, either.
Well, while they're out lining their pockets with speeding ticket money, there are actual serious crimes going on. For example, the city I live in has only 750 policemen to manage 1,000,000 people. Focusing on speeding tickets is a sad waste of time. Especially when it's for people who are just going 10-15 miles above the limit.
I find that difficult to believe. I've never been on a highway in the US where drivers aren't driving about 10 mph above the speed limit, unless they're passing a cop car. It's sort of like jaywalking--you can generally get away with it so long as you're not doing it in front of an officer. What are these alleged "actual serious crimes" going on, how do you have some sort of secret knowledge of them, and why does nobody report these incidents? If they did, then maybe the cops would have something meaningful to do with their time.
