Let me ask you this: do you enjoy making video games? If so, continue doing what you're doing. If people are calling you a "wannabe dev," who the fuck cares? It is what you like to do and you will get better in time. I myself plan to get into game development/design once I get out of high school, and if there's one thing you need to realize before you get into it, is that there will always be people trying to put you down. Trust me, there is a difference between constructive criticism and flat-out being a dick.
Do what you want to, fuck everyone else.
The problem is that actual devs would be hard-pressed to say that a career in the video game industry is worth pursuing.
Not that most users would mention that--they're too busy having their 'lolDeci' circlejerk.

Yeah, I know that. Nintendo has more money than Sony despite only making video games (but owning the Seattle Mariners and being around since the 1800s certainly helps).
