It's just like... John's in an empty gym, then some ODSTs arrive for the sole purpose of being douchewads, and John beats them up.
That's exactly how it happened in the novel, too, for the sole purpose of making the Spartans look good.
In the novel version, 4 ODSTs came to John and one of the ODSTs commander asked John to go on the ring (there basically asking John to fight) why, because ONI wants to test the spartans to see if the augmentation worked, they were kind of douchetwats but not really, in the animated version it looks like they're trying to beat up John with no explanation.
Plus they didn't come up to John and beat him the moment they saw him, also he was confronted by 4 ODSTs, one of them being the sergeant (I think he was an ODST) and asking John to go on the ring and facing the remaining 5 ODSTs, and finally all of them were not dead, only two were dead and the rest injured

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. It was awful. It was honestly really cringe-worthy at times.
I was bothered most by the scene where John fights the ODSTs. The wonky animations just did not suffice for that scene. And just, as someone who hasn't actually read the novel yet, it was nothing like I imagined (and having finished Hunt the Truth a few days earlier, I know that it wasn't even the correct number of ODSTs). It's just like... John's in an empty gym, then some ODSTs arrive for the sole purpose of being douchewads, and John beats them up.
