Saying the movie has "many layers" is just a dishonest assessment of what the movie was going for.

The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 10:13:48 PM »Deadpool has always been a foil on comics taking themselves too seriously. With what Marvel and DC have been doing with the shared universes, Deadpool becomes a necessity. 1. No, he hasn't. He evolved to be a parody of "serious, edgy comics" but he wasn't designed with that in mind. 2. "With shared universes, Deadpool becomes a necessity." Why? I've yet to see one thing wrong with these "shared universes." Marvel has handled it perfectly, and DC has yet to demonstrate their competency. But judging by the fact that their second movie in the universe is a cross-over movie and that Batman makes an appearance in what is essentially DC's Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm not really too worried about this. At least, the "shared universe" part. Quote If you look closely, he called out Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr on becoming Wolverine and Iron Man. The sets took a shit on the concept of the shared universe. The final fight was on a decommissioned helicarrier. Hydra Bob was in it, despite Hydra being Disney's property. Awesome. Except, there's really no good reason to "shit" on either of those actors, especially considering they've become almost synonymous with their characters. ![]() Quote Yes, the story is cliche and full of tropes, it was designed that way. It was designed to be stupid. Quote The movie's cast and production crew were openly giving the finger to every comic movie out. The difference being, "every comic movie out" usually aren't completely trash in their execution. Say what you will about capeshit, but The Winter Solider? Guardians of the Galaxy? Quality movies. We haven't had a truly bad comic book movie since... Iron Man 3? It's quite funny that the movie has the "balls" to shit on other studios' work and ideals but delivers such a poor show of their own. 9243

I feel like I've read that Captain America issue before... looks vaguely familiar.
I can say that I've never enjoyed Thor much, though. He's like... Superman, without all the things that make Superman good. 9245
The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 09:42:07 PM »Quality, for the most part. Oh, right. See, I was talking strictly sales-wise. Marvel Comics might not be able to publish as many comics as they do without their two front-runners. Quote I've never really liked Deadpool all that much, so yeah. Spider-man has been great now. You should read the "Sins of the Past" miniseries. It was before Deadpool became the cancer he is now, and it's one of my favourite runs. Or "With Great Power, Comes Great Coincidence", where Deadpool is sent back in time and disguises himself as Peter Parker. One of the funniest runs in the character's history, IMO. Quote But my favorite comic series has been Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America from the MARVEL NOW! imprint. I've mostly dropped comics entirely for the past few months. Just can't seem to enjoy them like I used to. I think the last series I really liked was Superman Unchained by Snyder and Lee... just an awesome run. 9246
The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 09:33:24 PM »Also now that Deadpool's success is sure to usher in a new age of R rated comic book movies, I'm so ready for an R rated Batman R-rated, live-action Flashpoint Paradox when? 9247
The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 09:32:51 PM »Deadpool is the fictional embodiment of "le so randumb" 2010-11 humor. He didn't start off that way, but yeah. It's unfortunate because there are a few moments where you really see the brilliance of a fourth-wall-breaking, schizophrenic anti-hero. Even outside the comics. ![]() 9248
The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 09:31:30 PM »Not really. Nowhere near as well as Deadpool and Spider-man to my knowledge. Quote Spider-man recovered slowly after One More Day thanks to Superior Spider-man and Deadpool is meh imho. Are you talking about sales or quality of comics in this post? My guy's been telling me he couldn't even afford to sell Marvel's stuff without Deadpool and Spider-man. 9249

How fucked are you?
I'm 597, so that makes me Ferroseed: ![]() If your number is higher than 721, subtract that from your number and use that as your Pokémon. For example, if your user number is 824, you would subtract 721 from that. So, [824 - 721 = 103]. In the Pokédex, 103 is Exeggutor. 9262
The Flood / Re: Y'know, regardless of Man of Steel's overall quality...« on: February 21, 2016, 07:29:38 PM »But carelessly devastating entire city blocks because he's pissed isn't the impression I've gotten from him. The thing you have to understand about Man of Steel is that it was intended to be an else-worlds Superman origin story. It would make no realistic sense for a year-zero Superman to be all "muh morals" and controlled, first day on the job. I believe Goyer (screenwriter) planned to follow up on this plotline this in the sequel, but unfortunately, that was likely scrapped in favour of the Batman V. Superman thing we have now. 9263
The Flood / Re: So about Deadpool« on: February 21, 2016, 07:21:48 PM »He's a minor character in the marvel universe and even his recent popularity doesn't really account for the numbers. Pretty sure that Deadpool and Spider-man are the only reason Marvel Comics are even still in business. 9264
The Flood / Re: Y'know, regardless of Man of Steel's overall quality...« on: February 21, 2016, 06:02:50 PM »The action was way over the top and out of character for Superman tbh How much Superman have you read, exactly? Man of Steel is a quality film, and the best Superman film to date.
