snake, when you posted this thread, you had an accent mark over the "e" in Pokémon

which was nice, because i was using that to copy/paste

now it's not there--what gives

Really? That's weird. I don't have that "e" on my computer...

Regardless, here you go.

Farms can be expensive and time consuming.

I understand the risks.

I'm not afraid of work.

yeah i'm pretty much in the same boat as you, Class. I don't really have any passions, and the ones I do I don't want to monetise and ruin my enjoyment of them.

Though, I've just decided to say "fuck it" and make a living planting trees or something, whereas I think you're actually planning on going to College/Uni?
Could just go unplugged or some shit. Grow your own food and what not. I have a cousin that does that, he doesn't really have a job either.

I like music, movies and other electronic things too much to do that. Though I would like to own a farm or farm land in the future.

You live in Canada.

If you want to be anything other than a mule in the US, you need a degree.

Ontario is literally America Jr. so, no. Fairly sure the job climate is the exact same.

I'm sure you can find good work in the U.S., too. You just have to not be picky.

Last time I checked, I needed my grade 12 to work at Mickie D's. The only jobs I've ever been able to take legally are stuff like janitorial stuff in certain institutions, and laborer work in construction jobs.

Then again, different province.

Are you agreeing with me, or...?

slicking back your hair doesn't make you look cute

Tom Hiddleston is pretty cute and he does that.
I really really really don't see where you get your tom hiddleston love from

he's not attractive, IMO

It has more to do with his charisma, to be honest. He's a really funny guy.

There are so many illegal immigrants where I live, that it would be completely pointless to pay someone full minimum wage over the counter for a job that doesn't require them to know English.

The fucking brown people will do it for next to nothing, and felons are unhirable so they just jump on that shit all the same.

I fail to see how your local problem applies to your country, like your statement claimed.

That being said, there must be work for you in neighbouring cities. Is it not possible to commute?

Too dangerous for my liking. I'd like to not die or get horribly injured while working. That would be great.

Surely you realise how irrational that is.

There are loads of safe, physical labour-based jobs out there. I was working in landscaping last summer, laying bricks on a long-ass driveway. There's very little risk there.

There's very little risk in lawn care, too.

contractors in the US largely aren't interested in employing people who do so, and they also aren't interested in employing anyone who won't work for less than minimum wage.

Why?

Unless you're an illegal immigrant or a convicted felon, construction isn't for you in this country.

I seriously doubt the legitimacy of this claim.

Any entry-level job you can think of that isn't strictly in food. Mostly grocery stores and libraries.

Have you gone to any interviews? How did they go? Do you know what kind of people they've been giving the jobs to?

No interest in physical labor.

Well that's your best bet if you want a job. Can I ask why?

Then clearly you don't understand the definition of "being a mule"

It's fucking simple.mate, there's good jobs and there's shit jobs, don't go around saying there's good jobs for high school grads and then be like "have you tried construction"

Tldr stop contradicting yourself

Admittedly, I did read your first response as "own a mule" instead of "be a mule." But really, that doesn't change anything. Construction is fine work. What's wrong with it?

Also you're not British, stop using "mate."

similar culture =/= similar anything else

The job climate in the US is shit, there's niggas that want you to have a degree to manage a grocery store.

Like nigga, wtf if I had a degree I wouldn't have applied ay a grocery store.

Demonstrate to me why I must make the distinction between Ontario and the rest of the U.S. when in no other area I must do so.

Guess what -- you have to have a degree to run a grocery store here, too.

I'm in the middle of a class discussing the shitty employment rate of University graduates. Trust me, it isn't great here either.

Can you demonstrate how different job opportunity is in the U.S. as opposed to Ontario?
Only that I've already lost track of the number of jobs I've applied for over the past three years, and never got. None of them were fast food, because I obviously refuse to work in fast food. It just seems like it's down to dumb luck.

Alright, that's not exactly what I was looking for, but I guess it works. I've heard stories of that happening here. Like I said, it's not that different.

What kind of places were you applying to? Did you ever consider physical labour jobs like landscaping, construction, etc.?
