Philisophical pessimism fused with Orthodox Christianity. I don't actually believe that God exists (I can't seem to figure out how to do that while remaining intellectually honest with myself), but I follow most of His teachings.

I think I just got what you meant by JD's "Closer", Jim...
I'm holding back tears right now.
"Existence... well, what does it matter? I exist in the best state I can. The past is now part of my future, and the present is well out of hand."

Lyrics don't matter nearly as much as the instrumentals behind them, IMO.
You ever look at lyrics online and not feel anything, but then listen to the song and just be like, "Wow..."? Yeah.
It's hard to be taken seriously if your lyrics are cheesy as shit.
Obviously. I only said lyrics don't matter nearly as much as the instruments behind them.

The computer is distracting. I avoid distraction while listening to music when I can.
Honestly the last couple weeks has just had me putting a CD into my stereo, blasting it, and lying down in my bed trying to just listen. It's been surreal.

Wait did you listen to and like UP?
No, I haven't listened to it yet. I'm not a huge fan of listening to albums on the computer, tbh. I don't know what it is, but I find it a lot harder to internalise the music when I'm not using the disc. It's fucked up, but I found myself enjoying "Closer" a lot more once I re-setup my stereo.

If I'm in a band and I want my m8s to be able to play my vision, I need to write it down for them. you can't just show them what to play?
It's much more convenient and professional to have sheet music for everyone.
well you guys'd probably know better than me. i can't really imagine doing it any other way.

But learning by ear is, for the most part, extremely easy. Learning chords by ear is harder, and learning something with a lot going on melodically is hard too, but overall it's not a great achievement. I mean I personally have never met a musician in my Jazz bands or what have you that doesn't know how to learn at least melodies by ear.
well i mean, yeah it was easy for me. but people seem really impressed by it, so that's what i like to take out of it.

Bullshit unless your parents raised you around music constantly as a baby.
A very small number of people have perfect pitch.
Well, yeah, they did.

This is not true at all.
Reading music is beneficial in any genre, though it's only truly necessary if you're a concert musician (as in you're playing concert piano performances of Rachmaninoff and Liszt) or something of the like.
It's most certainly NOT a waste of time, but it's nto necessary if your only desire is to play rock music. It will ALWAYS be beneficial, however. making anything but rock music is a waste of time, jim Spoiler i've gotten along pretty well in concerts without knowing how to read music. yeah it'd probably be beneficial in the long run to learn. i just don't wanna, it's pretty sick to tell people that i taught myself to play X and i don't know how to read music.

reading music is a waste of time. real musicians don't have to, tbh.
like, look at someone like Video Game Pianist. The man obviously has practiced piano his entire life, but his fucking TIMING is so bad. he has no ear for the actual music, it's actually kind of embarrassing.

hey, i have perfect pitch.
right now i'm teaching myself to play New Order's "Elegia" on the piano. Unfortunately it requires something like 6 hands to play, so I've been recording myself playing the 3 different parts of the song. Anyone on my snapchat has seen a bit of what I have so far.

Abrahamic theists that believe in a global flood or young-Earth theory aren't worth taking seriously, though.
Out of curiousity, what do you believe happened? Assuming you're a theist.
