Philosophy Professor
That's not the same thing as just sitting around and thinking. I have curriculum to create, papers to mark, people to talk to. I don't want any of that. People liking their job is so absurd to me.

Learn to separate pleasure from profession. The two don't and shouldn't mix.
LOL
It's true. Work is work, leisure is leisure.

But that's the thing, I want a job where I can talk about what I like. History's one of those things, but not as much as science fiction, Star Wars, geeky stuff, video games, etc...
Too bad. I want a job where I get paid to sit on my ass and think, but that's not going to happen.

That particular idea isn't from The Sickness Unto Death, that's more in Fear and Trembling. The emphasis in the sickness unto death is sin and existential terror.
Have you read "Either/Or" yet? I was having a discussion with my teacher last night about Kierkegaard and he recommended that one to me.

It is a constant contradiction between belief and doubt, a continual renewal of faith in the face of doubt and skepticism. This is so fucking spot-on I really gotta read that book as soon as possible.

Wrong. If you've been introduced to God's word and still deny Him, you have made a choice. THAT is how it works. Define "deny". If you mean "reject the overall theme of Jesus' message in order to live a sinful (see: individualistic/humanistic/nihilistic secular) life", then I could maybe see where you're coming from. But you didn't choose to believe Unicorns don't exist. Max didn't choose to believe God didn't exist. That's not how God works; if he could be proven to exist, it would invalidate faith entirely. Which makes someone like Max, who values reason and rationality, as well as empirical evidence above (likely) all else, hard-pressed to just accept the scientifically unlikely premise of Jesus Christ's resurrection.

I'm retarded for telling God's truth? If you deny Him you go to Hell, it's that simple
Belief in God is not a choice, an atheist like Max has no ability to just "choose" to believe that Christ died on the cross. That is how it works.

God created all things, including the rules for what is or isn't sinful.
God's rules generally line up pretty well with secular reasoning, though. Anything I believe thanks to my doctrine I can back up without reverting to the "it's bad 'cuz God said so" line.

You said earlier that you believe in heaven and hell, yet don't believe in God. Without God, there are no rules by which you are sent to heaven/hell.
No, I said, "Under my current belief system, I still exist after death [the implication here is heaven and hell]." To which I followed up by saying that I'm not sold on the supernatural aspects of the religion, like the actual existence of my God, heaven and hell, resurrection, etc. I understand the confusion, but I meant, I, "officially", as an Orthodox Christian, believe in heaven and hell. I've only recently (this passed Monday) decided to become a Christian, and considering I was always a pretty comfortable atheist, it's still a bit hard for me to just take the leap. Trying to figure things out for myself, so I apologise if I don't have all the answers you're looking for (and I'm not even sure they exist).

In this context, the helmet only looks half decent because of the toasters and sharks surrounding it.
I don't necessarily agree. I think the armour you showed is reminiscent of Crysis' nanosuit, which is pretty cool.

But you don't believe in God, and God created sin. Sin [or rather, unrepented sin, depending on your flavor of Christianity] is what sends you to hell. Without God, there is no sin. I don't understand your point.

No man has the authority to tell another where God will send them. I struggle to believe a follower of Christ's message, inadvertent or not, could be justifiably sent to hell.
Midget's retarded, this is nothing new.

You can't follow the Bible without also listening to the shitty stuff it says. And why not? Besides, the shitty things in the Bible aren't to be taken out of context nor taken literally (that goes for everything). Paul warns about this several times.

Max's point is that racism and sexism are rampant in the Bible. Which is true. Which has nothing to do with the plentiful good sense that is actually in the Bible. A socially-liberal person like yourself probably doesn't see much worth in what I'm talking about, though.

Contemporary porn is going to be ridiculously outdated in the sexual appeal department in 100 years, let alone 14 billion.

The movie was so awesome, too. I used to be really into that whole conspiracy. Aren't they supposed to reveal all the information they have on that case in, like, 2024?
