is there a compendium for this sort of thing, or what Not one that I've found. Even now, I don't have a great understanding of it all. Basically, there were a bunch of Earths with different labels (Earth 1, Earth 2, etc.) in different universes called the "Multiverse", and each earth had a different version of each character. After a few story arcs, the number was reduced to one earth, and then after awhile, they went back to a multiverse, and then back to one earth. Over and over again for a few decades. What ever was considered the "main line" earth is usually fair game to use as evidence, unless otherwise agreed upon before the discussion. I'm not really quite sure what Azumarill is talking about, but he's likely biased because he can then utilise an else-world, never-canon story like TDKR as justification for his ridiculous claim of "Batman>Superman in a fight." also i'm kinda surprised you didn't like the christopher reeve films--they were campy, but i think they had a charm to them
and reeve himself was just the perfect superman
They were boring and are really dated. I also don't really like the boyscout, somewhat scrawny spandex suit Superman that Reeves was. Cavill is a much better visual representation of what I like about Superman.

its canon within its own universe. you're setting arbitrary rules about what can be considered canon for debates; instead, debate should be centered around specific versions of characters and bound to the rules of the universes they belong to. this is basic etiquette for behavior within comic circles.
It was never recognised canon by DC. How is this even a conversation?

thats because youre completely oblivious to how fucking stupid you are
Or you're incapable of supporting statements like "Batman is much smarter than Clark." Like, he may be a bit smarter than Clark, which is even then, still arguable... but "much" smarter? Lol, no.

because that's what happens in the movie. for no good reason. i always thought it was stupid, too.
the reeves movies suck and i don't like them, fyi
well yeah, but i don't think it matters if we like it or not--it's what happened, and it was canon at one point, so
if we're to go by what you just said earlier, it seems fair game that superman would be able to turn back time
What? The Reeves movies were never canon. It had to be the official, regonised main-line canon of the DCU at one point to be considered "canon" in debates like this. DC's idea of canon is really fucked up.

and people cant fly and there arent aliens that shoot laser beams out of their eyes and are powered by the sun. its fiction, fuck off already
what's your fucking problem.
my problem is with the retarded things you keep saying
I haven't said anything that ridiculous to warrant a "fuck off, already"

then how the fuck does lois come back to life
that's literally why he's even doing that--because lois died, so he's turning back time to when she was alive
it's a stupid-as-fuck plot device, but that's literally what happened there
Because that's what happens in the movie. For no good reason. I always thought it was stupid, too. The reeves movies suck and i don't like them, fyi.

Yeah, he can't do that. The best chance he'd have at going back in time would be to tap into the speedforce like The Flash but he can't do that while a speedster is alive, so...
The world turning the other way a few times doesn't turn back time. He could change the rotation of the earth if he wanted to but that wouldn't magically turn back the clock.

Batman's best chance is always Kryptonite, and Kryptonite's affects vary from writer to writer... and he has ways of immunising himself against it.
So. . .

iirc superman can turn back time if he flies around the world a bunch of times
all he would have to do is turn back time to when bruce was still an infant, and kill him then Yeah, he can't do that. The best chance he'd have at going back in time would be to tap into the speedforce like The Flash but he can't do that while a speedster is alive, so...

you've already conceded that there is no one consistent canon to go off of, so like Anything that ever was canon is usually fair game. The Dark Knight Returns was never canon, and neither was any comic where Batman "wins".

batman is much smarter than clark. thats a very stupid way of thinking.
im done talking to you.
Except he isn't. Superman is super intelligent, you realise. He's far smarter than Batman, at least, in computation and knowledge.

The only way Batman could beat Superman is if he WAS unbeatable. If he's not unbeatable, Superman will win every time, because the margin between their powers is so vast that if he even has one weakness, Superman can exploit the FUCK out of it.

your narrow definition of "fair fight" unnecessarily excludes a lot of otherwise thematically sound plans that various batmen have developed to deal with superman. also, just one example, he defeats superman in the dark knight returns, and makes it very clear that he actively chose to spare superman's life. What? All "fair fight" would include would be equal prep. time. If Superman was given the same prep. time as Batman, he'd win. No contest. The only time Batman ever "stands a chance" is when he's given more prep. time, a significantly neutered Superman, or Superman is holding back. Every time. To continue on your TDKR example. Batman was able to "defeat" Superman by +facing a significantly underpowered version of Superman in comparison to his canon contemporaries +facing an injured Superman who just walked away from a nuclear attack +utilising an overpowered version of Kryptonite that really only exists to jerk off Batman, courtesy of Miller +succeeds thanks to his ally, Green Arrow +manages to survive the encounter by faking a heart attack Yes, quite the degrading defeat for the Man of Steel.

Exactly. So this idea that the common man thinking the idea is stupid is not entirely baseless. It is stupid.
Yeah, I tend to agree, and IMO it devalues Batman as an interesting hero for having no powers by making him basically unbeatable.
I've been saying for a long time that Batman is one of the most, if not, the most overpowered character in the DCU. Save like, the Flash or Spectre or something.

clearly dont understand batman or precedent for conflicts like this in other media.
It is a dumb idea because there isn't a single scenario where Batman could feasibly beat Superman in a fair fight. There aren't many, or any canon (iirc) fights where Batman actually defeats Superman.
Pretty much any of those fights also include the caveat that Superman holds back to prevent killing him, and some iterations have begun scaling back Superman's powers.
Exactly. So this idea that the common man thinking the idea is stupid is not entirely baseless. It is stupid.

How's that a stupid argument? Anybody who takes the time to read the title is going to know the thread is either going to be a review or be talking about the movie. Why do you need a spoiler tag to know the thread is going to be about the movie when the title is implying it?
Because we can discuss the quality of the movie without using spoilers? There are spoiler discussions and spoiler-free discussion -- my AMA on Tuesday was the latter. If there was a spoiler tag, then someone knows that there are spoilers in the thread. If I'm looking for a discussion on the film's quality before I go see it, for whatever reason, the lack of spoiler tag should imply that it's a safe zone to do so. Ultimately, it's a matter of common courtesy. How hard is it to spoiler your posts or use the tag? Seriously, it's mind-boggling to me that this is even a conversation.

nigger
I don't see your point. This man routinely sees movies high.
fucking dc shills
I'm not even going to deny that I am. But I still don't see your point. I didn't like the film; I don't have any objections to his opinions (save the one I did contest). I just didn't want him to accidentally spoil the movie for someone, and I think the fact that he watched the movie high is fucking stupid.

You'd think superman would punch batman once and the movie would be over
if you're retarded
To be fair that's how it would probably go down if jerking off Batfags didn't affect the sales of tickets as much as they do.

the title is basically a spoiler alert
Stupid argument. If it's there, use it. I'd hate to have an anticipated movie, no matter how shit, be ruined by the ramblings of druggie who couldn't be assed.

Where exactly are the spoilers here?
I swear superman had three fucking funerals in the last ten minutes. Literally first sentence.
That's a figure of speech, you can't literally have three consecutive funerals in 10 minutes.
Spoiler He had 2 funerals in the last 10 minutes. One for Clark and one for Superman.

Yeah. That 2 and a half minute opening montage of the Batman origin story that happens to be one of the coolest shot scenes in the movie must have been so hard to sit through.
Also, put a spoiler tag.

i want producers to create unique movies with interesting plot lines and characters not to follow some corporate model. what I'm trying to say is relatively simple: let superhero films be their own things. the dark knight was a crime thriller that happened to star batman and captain america the winter soldier was a spy espionage film that happened to star captain america, and both films were all the better for it because they took an idea and ran with it, free from the shackles of franchises and corporate interference. neither of these films stick to a producer-approved "model", and they only tick the boxes they want to tick. you can't please everyone, and superhero films need to stop trying to.
Awesome. I agree with you. I don't think they should just stop making so many movies, though. I fucking hate Green Lantern but you can bet your ass I wouldn't want them to NOT make a movie for the fans. I just won't see it myself.

if he intends on getting the justice league together he shouldn't have had superman already kill someone. Superman killing Zod in MoS was the ballsiest and most creatively honest part of that entire film. It would've made sense, if they had followed up with it properly in BvS (which they don't.) Besides, it's perfectly clear that morality is going to play less of a role in the DCCU. You'll understand what I mean come your first viewing of the film. Edit: Otherwise, I agree with you. I just don't like that critique of MoS, considering I think it was the best part of the film.
