okay, but if you don't play by smogon's rules, your online experience isn't hampered at all if you don't play by the dark souls community's rules, (level 120), your online experience is significantly altered

Snake is right. You probably shouldn't be able to max out every stat, especially if it ruins things like PvP.
at least in pvp i like the fact that you can be a tank with maxed stats in offline mode, especially since it takes a helluva lot of work but when you go into pvp, make it limited. they already limit your estus recovery, just extend that to your other stats...

Well you shouldn't have bothered to begin with because you don't have an argument. Here's an argument I just came up with that would work better for you: "it's a 'ain't broke, don't fix it' situation. This method has worked for all the other games and tampering with it could be detrimental to the game's popularity." Which is still not great but at least youre not blindly defending incompetence like before.

Leveling on the other hand, I know that's not something that doesn't change through the games. As it's been said the way it works allows players the flexibility of controlling the game's difficulty to be how they want. You can be an absolute tank, you can be a glass cannon, you can be super squishy and not do much damage (there have been people who beat the game using only their fists), and obviously everything in the middle too. It allows you to play the game how you want, granted that you know how it works. The amount of times you NG+ the game contributes to this too. Awesome. Don't need to touch any of that for online play. And they established Who's "they" and where did they establish this

Because I possess a functional brain that allows for an abstract concept called "critical thought" to be executed on a daily basis and with it I can tell that this was either an oversight or intentional incompetence on the developer's part. I'm aggressive in conversation because I don't like you, not because it matters to me so. Oh wah the game's online functionality works in a way you weren't prepared for, that means the game is bad waaah The game is excellent. But it has flaws and this is one of them. Fracturing the soon-to-be dated online community by levels and game completions is a huge mistake and there are many ways around it. You'll still get PVP just not as often. And since you apparently think it's trash then this shouldn't even be a problem for you.
That makes it less of a problem now but it's only going to get worse as the population fades. You're right, it isn't a problem for me. That's why I don't care that much. But it's still a problem.

You're whining because you missed out on PVP, which you originally had disabled. I don't actually care, the PvP is garbage for the most part anyway. But I'm capable of looking past my own interests and seeing where someone else might have a problem. You went into the game purposely not looking at online guides, so you should be willing to accept that there are things you will miss. That's normal. Yeah, things like the hidden gem behind the waterfall or an alternate ending with specific requirements -- not 40% of the game. It's not like I'm telling you to delete the one you've spent the past 2-3 weeks on. I don't understand why you think it's so horrible to make a character specifically for PVP.
I don't think it's horrible at all. But the point is I shouldn't have to. I should be able to use my character that I've put 100 hours into in all facets of the game. Not have him locked off from a large portion of the content because I didn't have someone tell me something outside of the game.

I knew you were gonna bitch about that. And you said it anyway. There's plenty of low level PVP (probably a good amount of mid range PVP as well since the game is still relatively new) and if you know your way around the game then leveling up really isn't difficult.
Now that you've beaten the game 2 or 3 times, look for walkthroughs on how to specifically go after stuff for your build and it won't take that long.
That doesn't matter at all. I could have put 200 hours into a character only to find out that all this PvP stuff I missed out on is completely missing from my experience because I don't frequent the DS forums. That's an oversight. End of discussion. Your precious Dark Souls has flaws, deal with it. I have.

If the entire community stops leveling at 120 fight clubs can run nonstop (everyone is the same level so there's tons of matches) and people have unique builds
If everyone just leveled nonstop every person in PvP would wear Havel armor + shield, weild the biggest greatsword and have every spell.
At 120 you have to choose if you want a heavy strength build, a spell-sword build, a Mage build, a pyro build ect
I understand just fine, I just think it's stupid.
We've created an artificial level cap because the developers forgot to. Dumb as fuck.

Some people want to be part of fight clubs with fair fights and unique builds. Shit you can still find fight clubs in dark souls 1 and 2.
Some people don't give a fuck and want to max out every stat and become the ultimate badass. Hell there's even videos of people doing shit like literally one shotting pontiff.
Having essentially no level cap has no downside. It lets every type of player do what they want.
the downside being that someone like me who was unaware of this could wake up one morning and think "hey maybe ill play some pvp today in a fight club or whatever the kids are calling it" and not be able to because im level 457. Just seems like another oversight that couldve used polish, especially in the third installment of a series
