why waste time money resources etc. making a remake then, when they could just rerelease the game on the playstation store or some other thing

Graphics and resolution. That's all people seem to care about these days. A fully-remade from the ground up rerelease is more enticing than just releasing the older games digitally. It's more flashy, and in the eyes of the common man, it's a more "legitimate" release.

It's also a lot cheaper to remake a game than it is to make a new one, because all the hard, creative work is done, but the profit margins are probably greater on remakes. That's why we've seen so many of them in recent years -- it's easy money.

developers aren't gonna want to rebuild a game from the ground up just so people can play the originals anyway though
if they make the remakes functionally worse than the originals, they should be obligated to

who cares what they want to do. you think these devs give a shit about redoing someone elses work or do they care about getting paid. including the older games doesn't somehow mean less sales.
i don't know, if i spent a year composing a score for a remaster for some old game, and i learned that you can just revert back to the old score on a whim, i'd be pretty upset

i'd feel like i wasted my time
Why exactly are your feelings more important than what the consumer wants?
when exactly did i say that

video games are art, for one thing—the designers can put whatever they want in the game and they don't have to listen to fucking anybody, and you can eat shit for all i care

for another, that wasn't even the point i was trying to make

i think remakes are an exception, because theyre mot really being creatove. theyre just rehashing someone elses work for a quick buck. theyre the opposite of art, unless they do something vastly different.

its no more a waste of time then if no one buys your game

which isnt the case here but theres always that risk when you create a product like this

I'm using tilt controls

that was the funniest dunk vid in a long time.

the slow motion editing when he gets hit with the shell before the finish line. with donkey kong looking at the camera dramatically. fucking gold.

The PS1 version is still the definitive version. These remakes gotta start shipping the original games with their overhauled versions, enough is enough.

Fuck exclusivity, I want everyone to enjoy everything.

Sure, but the games are designed to be played with the d-pad.

Good luck doing that on X1.

I don't have an Xbox One so I'm not affected at all. May get an inferior experience but they might still enjoy it.

I wasn't insinuating you would play it on X1.

Apathy is worse than wanting console exclusives.

Xbox One has an improved d-pad compared to its 360 counterpart, its good to know that Prehistoric agrees the PC version is going to be the surperior version only for the fact that you'll be able to use the Wii U Pro Controller that makes the PS4's D-Pad seem like dogshit

An improvement over the dogshit 360 controller doesn't say much, because it's still worse than every iteration of the Playstation D-pad.

The PC versiom will likely be better, yeah. The Wii-U Pro's D-pad is equal to the Dualshock 4, but it's a superior controller overall.

The game is already imprecise as fuck. I pity the guy who plays it on X1.

Oh yeah. Fuck this game's loading times, too. Literally 3 times as long as back on the PS1.

The more I play this, the more I just want the originals with a higher frame rate.

Waiting to see if they'll release a PC version

Doubt it.
There's an Xbox version already planned for release so I don't see why not

What the fuck.
http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/823225/Crash-Bandicoot-N-Sane-Trilogy-PS4-release-date-Xbox-One

That's just wrong.
Why?

These games were designed with the playstation controller in mind. The first 5 games were supposed to be exclusive. I don't know, it just doesn't feel right.

I just want a Spryo re release. Don't even worry about the graphics, just increase the frame rate and resolution of the original 3, and put it on my current gen. That's it.

I would like to make a detailed post about what makes a good remaster/remake but I'm in the middle of trying to get the yellow gem on Plant Food in Crash 2 and it's being a real bitcher.

Basically my thoughts are:

-movement isn't nearly as precise as I remember, could have used a lot more work (especially in Crash 1)
-music is pretty awful, would have liked a Halo CEA/H2A button option to switch between classic graphics and new ones
-save/load system is fucking stupid, who the FUCK would press square to save?
-Crash 2 is still easily the best one

The MGS V one has to be the worst one in a long LONG time. It's just too fucking long.

which one are you referring to
Just take one guess

if i were you id probably be talking about the hallway where you kill the infected soldiers with the peace walker theme playing

the jeep ride isnt a forced walking sequence, youre just travelling to your destination. its awkward but its not insulting in the same way forced walking is.
No you dope, the very fucking beginning when you take 3 hours stumbling around like a moron.

and meh, the jeep bit is bad because they just awkwardly stare at one another for like 4 mins and it's been handled in previous games better before.

oh, yeah. i completely overlooked the prologue, probably because it was really well done. at least in spectacle, anyway.

my point was though about the jeep, that it doesn't really count as a hand hold. it's a different kind of bad.
I wish I could forget about the prologue. The cutscenes were cool, but watching Snake struggle and fall over 10 times got old quick.

it's not so bad once you get past the stairwell. granted i've only played it twice in my life so.

yeah, the video didn't help calm my nerves about the ep. i like that trent's using synthesisers again, but it sounds weird with his new style. maybe i just gotta get used to it

sometimes taking it slow and being patience is a virtue

yeah but you shouldnt be forced to do it.

your story should be compelling enough to entice the player to take their time during those sections. forcing someone to dramatically move down a corridor to instill some phony ass sense of dread or suspense is just cheap. its a level of handholding that greatly insults the players intelligence.

"our audience isnt mature enough to understand that this is a pivitol moment in the game's narrative. lets make sure they know its important by restricting their movements."
