Only one more week online left for you? Why?
No, 7 more days of activity and I'll reach Marty status.
Oh. This status is probably something important, huh?
You see where it says "Mythic Inconceivable!"? I get to replace that with whatever custom title I want.

well i bit the bullet and finally bought all the parts i'll need. probably putting it together in the next week or so.
i'm less than happy about the price but it's been a long time coming. at the very least, i'll be able to use this thread as evidence that console is ultimately better than PC, and the fact that i'll have a half decent PC will lend me some credibility and objectivity.
thanks to everyone involved

Oh dude.
Why why you build that. You just flushed $600 down the toilet.
You could have built something twice as powerful for the same price.
i think someone would have spoken up if that was the case
You built a dual core PC in this, the current year.
I have a PC with pretty much that same loadout, and it can't even run all the features on a two year old distribution of photoshop.
If you were budget shopping you should've bought AMD. Now you've got a PC with massive bottlenecking issues because nobody spoke up to say that you shouldn't buy that Pentium.
Your performance cap is around 4GB RAM and 2GB VRAM. After that it's just dick flexing room. You skimped where you should have spent, and spent where you should have saved. Reading through this thread, it looks like everybody recommended parts that they thought were good and affordable instead of parts that work well together.
I'm not trying to disparage you, and I'm not just AMD fanboi-ing either, just saying that you could seriously have gotten much more bang for your buck if you had bought a Quad or 8-core cpu from them. Higher performance in the lower price range is their niche.
Then there's you motherboard choice, which has limited you severely. At your price point, you wouldn't have lost any performance going for DDR3, and could have gotten more memory and more PCIe slots if you had opted that way, in the same fiscal ballpark.
If you were looking to build at twice the price, a Core i5 would have been a great choice, but Intel processors are usually trash below $300, and using anything other than Core or Xeon is seldom a good idea.
oh well, too late now it'll run the games i want

because it's illegal not to and you get more features when you have a real copy It's 100% legal and literally the only feature you miss out on is the ability to change your computer's theme and background. And even then, I still managed to change those things on mine.
yeah, and you also have to worry about that stupid little "activate windows" thing in the bottom right
i'm just picky about that, and for 25 bucks, it's worth it
anyways, am i all set for this purchase? no last minute warnings or advice?
A CPU cooler and maybe a case fan is never a bad idea. Other than that, it looks good.
how much would i be looking at for both it gets really hot in my room as is

you can grab a windows 10 key here for much cheaper
Why get one anyways?
because it's illegal not to and you get more features when you have a real copy anyways, here are my totals $25.86 - OS $244.70 - Storage, PSU, MOBO $291.51 - GPU and Case $223.23 - RAM and CPU Total: $785.30 a little above my budget but not much you can do about that.

Operating under the pretense that my friend will give me the money he owes me this Friday, I can increase my budget to 750CAD (600USD). If it's a little more expensive than that, I'll be okay. Here's what I have so far:
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Tsk6tJ
how's this look - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/PQjwf8
you can bump the cpu up to a G4600 or i3 7100 if you want to but this one works just fine
you can get by with the 1050 Ti here, but if you've got the money for a 1060 or a 570 then go for it
i don't think that can run PUBG, though

damn okay. so it works. so there aren't any issues with this? you guys think i should spend my money on this? i'll buy it right now if that's the case/ https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/J7n73F

Did you pick a Micro ATX mobo?
I don't know which one to choose. I got rid of the CPU and went with the FX6300, and I removed the disc drive.

1. Check your current processor. My processor, according to LC, is too old and incompatible with anything new. 2. Optical drive isn't necessary, might want to reconsider. Yeah, and I just remembered I have an external disc drive somewhere around here from when I used to make mix CDs. 3. Check dimensions of case against dimensions of components. PC Part Picker does all that for me, no? 4. Consider AMD instead of Intel if you're really on a budget. What would the equivalent be to the Intel Core i3-4340? 5. OS is free if you don't register it. Yeah but that's illegal, no? 6. Google all individual components to see if they're cheaper elsewhere. I'll do that in my final stages. All I need is a motherboard, I can't seem to find ones that the website says has no compatibility issues with.

Anyone still taking this series seriously is a masochist. Just sit back and roll with the punches. Enjoy having something episodic to look forward to every week.

I hate it that buying video games has become a moral dillema for me. I shouldn't have to do that. I should just be allowed to buy whatever I want and not have to worry about what scumfuck I'm giving my money to.

Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (PSP/PSN) So can I play this on my PS3? I can't find anything official on it.
my b apparently it's just psp
Damn. Well at least the US Amazon lists Symphony of the Night as roughly 50 CAD, instead of the 200 CAF the Canadian site is asking for.
tbh it might be cheaper to just get the psp and DXC
Yeah but how do you expect me to record gameplay of it?
Are you planning to stream all of these? I thought this was just giving recommendations.
Not stream, but doing either gameplay recordings or reviews would be cool. I have lots of time on my hands now, being unemployed and all.

That being said though, a PC is a pretty big purchase. It's something you'll use a lot and presumably not just for playing a handful of games. The difference in quality of parts (noise levels, power consumption, built quality, durability), performance (loading times, FPS, lag, speed of games and everyday tasks) and lifespan (how long you'll continue to be able to run "recent" software) is pretty huge between a $250 PC you salvaged together and a $500 one. It is of course your choice, but because a PC is never just a small purchase and you'll probably want something that'll last you quite a bit, you might want to consider saving up a bit more and go for a better computer altogether.
If you are going PC - you might as well go for the absolute MAX'd out specs. Why would you build one that is just on par with a console? You will be forced to upgrade if you want to play more recent games.
You will struggle to even get a "PC master race"-tier PC for 500. For 200 you can maybe some 32-bit motherboard with an integrate GfX card and the power supply is a phone charger with a 12 Amp fuse. Build a case from a cereal box (endless customisation options there) and you probably don't have enough money left for a keyboard mouse and monitor so you have to steal them from your school. Pirate Windows XP, and use your smartphone as a HDD.
After all that, you get home, plug in your beast, wait for the 512k RAM to boot up your BIOS, GRUB your pirated WinXP, load up YT and tell everyone in the comments that you are a member of an elite club.
Is this pasta
No, feel free to spread it though.
Some points are exaggerated obv, but they are not far from the truth.
I liked the welding bit more than the cereal edit you made.

i remember buying dracula x chronicles specifically for SotN, like five years ago, but i still haven't even touched the game lmao
so you've never played symphony of the night
not meaningfully
i have, several years ago, but it belonged to my uncle and i only have vague memories of it
so you don't have an opinion of it, then like, in comparison to super metroid
