The game itself is the progeny of Destiny hype. That's the point of this conversation.

No, it isn't. The game came out a year before Destiny's release and was in development before Destiny was even announced. The concepts that make the two ever more similar were introduced before Destiny's mold was known, so it's impossible DE would have known what to copy. It's a coincidence.

For a long time in Halo I would never fire my gun and just melee everything to save ammo.
I have no idea what I was saving it for.

I once played with a guy who only used melee because "only cowards fight with weapons".

That's somewhat admirable even if he didn't get many kills.

Damn you an XSEAN go way back huh

But they're still making it.
And if they stopped making money,  they would shut the servers down.
But they haven't, because they are making money.

It's not rocket surgery.

Jesus christ.

Obviously they are making money. The argument we're having is that they're not making money via cashing in on Destiny's hype. Keep up.

Let me recap for you:

Jono says Warframe is a shit game that tried to cash in on the Destiny hype.

I claim the game did no such thing because it would be impossible; it is a free game.

You came in and said something real intelligent like, "They're making money somehow, the game wouldn't exist if they weren't." as if that's news to anyone.

Noticing you don't watch Rick and Morty, and are thus of lower intelligence, I reiterate to clarify that Warframe could only cash-in on the Destiny hype if players felt obligated to spend money on Platinum, which they would only do if they were enthralled enough with the game to deem it worthy of purchase, at which point would I argue that they are no longer simply playing the game in wait for Destiny, but because they are enjoying it.

You then followed up with saying that free things like Facebook make money, so clearly all free things can make their money back by simply existing. (This is, by the way, contradictory to your next brilliant response.) Unfortunately, you overlooked that Warframe contains NONE of the methods social media sites use to make money, like advertisements and sponsorships, which I point out to you.

So again, if you're not spending money on Platinum, the developers aren't making money. Players who played Warframe in anticipation of Destiny did not spend money on Platinum. So, Warframe is making no money by cashing in on Destiny's hype.

And finally, you respond that the developers must be making money somehow or the game would cease to exist, which is so far from the point of the argument that I felt a "Previously On" segment like this was required.

All good now?

Jak 2 did the really cool thing where they had the game's main cover art on the front

and on the reversible side you have a map of the entire city and the outer regions which was super helpful for the directionless child I was

sadly they didn't include it in the greatest hits version and dropped the idea for every other game in the future except daxter on the psp

Sometimes game's do this thing where they have art on the inside of the cover that you can reverse but I hate it when there's no title or platform mention. Breath of the Wild does it, and the art is a million times cooler but I hate that it doesn't say "Breath of the Wild" or "nintendo Switch" anywhere on it.

That being said the default cover art isn't terrible

i actually prefer america's dark souls cover to the japanese one

the japanese one captures the tone and feel better, but i don't know, i think ours is more aesthetically pleasing

i'm actually not sure if there's a game where i don't prefer the american art, but maybe i'm just biased

nahhh

if you look the main character is supposed to be walking away from us, but he's holding his shield in the right hand, and he's also leaning towards us like that's the direction he's moving.it's really awkward.

Standard Cover Art:

Alternative cover on the reverse side:

The moment I bought the game I switched the cover to the latter.

Damn that second one is so cool.

You say it didn't used to be like Destiny, but as the game got older, it became more like it.

The two aren't linked. The similarities between Destiny and Warframe arose during the year after Warframe's release and stopped appearing after Destiny's. If anything Destiny has taken more cues from Warframe after its release.

You can't "cash in" on something if you're not making money. That's what "cashing in" means. That's why "cash" is in the sentence.

Quote
Facebook is free, but they're sure as shit cashing in on people's desire to broadcast themselves.

The difference is Facebook makes money just by you using it thanks to ad revenue and sponsorships. Warframe doesn't make a dime unless you choose to spend money.

Quote
The question isn't, "Am I spending money?", it's, "Are they making money?"

And if all you're doing is playing the game to satiate your desire for Destiny without spending money on Platinum (in-game currency), the answer is "No."

That doesn't have to be a negative accusation, so there's really no reason to get up in arms about the fact that someone is cashing in on a fad.

I'm just saying the accusation is false. Destiny often gets unfavourably compared to Warframe because Warframe is the free underdog that people tend to overlook. I'd say Warframe is better because it has far more depth and it's just more fun on a fundamental level but it's also more work to stay on-top of the meta and it's less accessible.
So what you're saying is they're cashing in.

You don't seem to get that just because you haven't spent any money doesn't mean they aren't making any.

You don't seem to get that they're not making money if you don't spend any.

Alls I sees is two similar games that are both making money, and which you've just told me one changed to emulate the other.

If that's not cashing in, I'm not sure I know what cashing in is.

Warframe didn't try to emulate Destiny, though. They just happen to be similar.

But even if they did emulate Destiny, it's still a free-to-play game that you don't have to spend a dime on, and it does what it sets out to do better than Bungie does. So, it's still not cashing-in.

Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean they aren't making money.

I don't know how much more clear that can be made, and frankly I don't think repeating myself is going to help you figure it out.

they only make money if you're enjoying the game via buying platinum -- something you wouldn't do if you're just waiting for destiny to be released. if you spent money on warframe during that time, i'd say the game transitioned from riding on the rails of destiny to forming its own source of interest within players.

the point i'm trying to make is that warframe, especially in its early days, was so distinctly different from what it is today that it could hardly be called a destiny lookalike. today's game could be, but not 1.0

Why do you hate it my son?
He's just assmad that he can't draw as good as the guys who made the art

i should hope professional, paid artists are better than some kid who's been excessively drawing pretty much nothing but anime for a month.

like i said i'm sure the game is really good and i respect what the artists have done because they clearly achieved what they set out to do and did so with flying colours. i just find the art style to be obnoxious and off-putting, not taking away from its style or animation, both of which are top tier. i made a jab about your dark souls comment because i don't think that game takes the great level of skill everyone pretends it does, and i'm not the only one. its cool to see games try to be different for once but i just don't care for the difference in this game.

have i covered all the bases or is there more  irrelevant shit like the pay model of another game you want to bitch about
Why do you got to get so mad over little shit LMAO

im mean youre sitting here acting hostile cuz i said i didnt like what you like, bringing up how warframe is a bad game trying to piss me off and then come outta nowhere to insult what i choose to do in my free time and when i try to clarify to appease you im the one who gets labelled as mad

The art style is like the biggest appeal of the game though lmao

and it looks terrible to me

ive been saying this since it was revealed idk why people have a problem with it all of a sudden

the main appeal of the game is how well its animated, not its art style. the art style is actually completely unoriginal.
