I forgot to praise a lot but something I think I should have mentioned more of was the sound design, ESPECIALLY the gun shots. They felt so exceptionally powerful and mechanical which has an interesting relationship with the futuristic visuals.

The Flood / Re: So I watched the original Blade Runner

I still need to watch this (and I've seen the new one already). Is it better than the new Blade Runner?

It's a lot better, IMO.

The Flood / Spoiler I know we've had a few threads, but... (Blade Runner 2049)
« on: October 17, 2017, 10:23:33 PM »
...it was just pretty good. It was cheap sex for my eyes and ears. Dialogue ranged from just serviceable to fucking terrible. There was one likeable, well-executed character (Lieutenant Joshi), and the visuals, while orgasmic at times, thematically felt more like something I'd look for in a Boba Fett Star Wars game than a cyberpunk noir follow-up to the original. The use of lighting in some shots is.... oddly stimulating, at least on first viewing. To that affect, this film just feels like "Palpatine Explaining the Tragedy of Darth Plageuis, the Wise to Anaking from Revenge of the Sith: The Movie."

Gosling does his best to bring the protagonist alive but between his "simply okay" acting ability and nothing-to-write-home-about characterisation it's hard to feel anything towards the guy. Jared Leto and Love were both absolutely AWFUL. Leto spouts some pretensious-ass anime bullshit every time he's on screen. As the only two antagonists in the film, it suffers for it. Ford feels like he's mailing it in on this one, even if he is one of the more interesting characters to watch on-screen.

The hologram waifu and sex with a prostitute was an understated weird, but maybe that was the point. I can't see any good reason for a gigantic hologram advertisement to be completely nude though, that's pretty blatantly exploitation.

And maybe I was just confused or can tell where the story is going, but was it obvious to anyone else that Deckard had twins and Gosling is one of them? The first shot of the film is a focus on K's vividly green eyes, and then Deckard mentions that "She [Rachael, romantic partner] had green eyes." The movie establishes that two Replicants had identical DNA despite one being a girl and one being a boy. When K shows the girl the memory she tells him that it's a real memory and starts to cry -- my brother interpretted this to mean that she saw her own memory and got emotional, but she had just established that you're not allowed to get real memories implanted, which means it must be his memory. Then the one-eyed chick throws K's idea about him being the child out the window which, to me, points to them setting up that reveal in the sequel. Maybe I'm just missing something.

I honestly recommend watching it at least once in theatres, but considering it started to drag along near the 2 hour mark, I can't see myself watching this as much as the original, or any of my other favourite movies. I would have liked a little more audio/visual storytelling rather than expository dialogue. The film only puts its feet into that pool instead of taking a nose-dive, which granted is still better than most films today, but it's something that the original did so well it's hard not to feel a little watered-down. As far as sequels to 80's classics, you haven't really got much better than this so far, but I feel as though making a new IP would have allowed the team a little more creative liberties that might have suited the director's vision better.

Does anyone else find shit like "Dads of Destiny" and those other clans to be absolutely fucking cringy in concept?

Thinking back on BUNGiE.net It's kind of disturbing how attached these people got to a game before it ever even went into alpha, and it stuck even when the base game turned out to be an utter fabricatrion. Not even No Mans Sky and Star Citizen fans seem to have that kind of fanatacism. It almost feels like a fucking Jonestown cult.

The all female only Destiny Clan is worse.

you're breaking character

Hype cultute? Nigga that game Is a decade old.

And...? Are you not overstating game's importance to you and its quality?

Regardless, that's more related to the "fandom" portion of my comment.

Hype and fandom culture contributes to the toxicity and autistic appearance of your favourite things, and you are most certainly guilty of it

Can't wait to have another 10 episodes of Piccolo/Gohan bromance and 17/18 posturing filler before Goku figures out how to retain Ultra Instinct.

Just like there's something wrong with you if you're homosexual, asexual, or even feminine at all.

You're not serious

Yeah, it makes it difficult sometimes but I just try to ignore it. That's all you can really do. That and distance yourself from other fans as much as possible.

I feel like your lines are slowly but steadily getting less sketchy and more confident. How often do you ink your sketches?

Some simple messy outline from me. I need to play around with color again more.

Thanks. Um Idk probably ink my sketches 2 or 3 times a week. It all depends on what Im drawing.

i did pick up a new mechanical pencil so that may have something to do with it

will watch the videos when i have time, but my opinion on the uncharted series is that they're basically just summer block busters in video game form.

Basically this. Immensely rewarding though.

How

No thanks. Druckmann had nothing to do with Uncharted 3 and that's the best one I've played.

1887
What's your opinion on Mass Effect since it's got a lot of cutscenes and you're stuck in a dialogue wheel a lot. The Witcher 3 does that too.
Shoddy gameplay drags both of them down. As much of a meme as it is, playing Witcher feels like a chore after Dark Souls. Same goes for ME. Bit too boring for me.

uh, he was only asking me.

Yeah, I highly respect CDPR. Can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077. Straley left ND. TLOU 2 will be just as good as the first I'm sure. I honestly don't see them changing up anytime soon though. If we're lucky they'll make Jak 4. Heck, they might make Jak 4 like Uncharted and TLOU lol...

I was excited at first to hear that Druckmann was directing TLOU 2 independently because he's one morbid fellow but TLOU was an excellent stand-alone game that ended perfectly and any follow-up just ruins it, in my opinion. The beauty of the ending was in the ambiguity of Ellie's response to Joel's lie. There's no way of getting around that without actually giving us an answer in the sequel. Additionally sequels this far into the PS4's life just feel lazy. ND really needs to do something new. I don't really even want Jak 4, just give me something fresh.

For anyone interested, this is what I ended up with. I'm still not satisfied with it, but I can't see myself going back to make the necessary changes.

I did fix most of what I had an issue with since the last posting but I just don't feel compelled to finish it. I'm sort of at the point where there's nothing majorly wrong with it (to my eyes), but I'm still not satisfied, for some reason. In the future I think I'll start smaller, like with my Goku composition, and if I like it, I'll try blowing it up to the bigger canvas. Oh well. You live and you learn.
