the most important factors for determining GOAT potential:
- body of work (consistency, creativity, innovation, etc.) - critical acclaim - sales - impact on culture - longevity
artists who hit all 5 are in the discussion for GOAT, but artists that hit at least 4 are worth mentioning when it comes to essential rap, imo

gonna go ahead and throw danny brown's name on the table
i also think brown is one of the best (if not, the best) right now, but i don't think he belongs in a conversation about "essential rap." his stuff is still pretty experimental and off-the-wall. i don't particularly like jay-z or dr. dre, but they have had a huge influence on hip hop which is why i listed them.

You asked for "essential rap." What I posted is a pretty extensive list of potential GOATs.
Also Drake is hot garbage and needs to be dropped by everyone.

Playing video games on the job doesn't sound like good use of company time.
i've done nothing wrong and I have nothing to fear
no matter what happens, I'm in the right and that's what matters A couple years ago you told me to bring my Wii-U to work and play it when my boss wasn't around.

isn't it kind of dumb to post your job, your location and when you work on a forum where people don't really like you all that much

O.K. Computer by Radiohead was my first Radiohead album and I loved it.
With Teeth/Hesitation Marks by Nine Inch Nails are the most accessible ones, but Pretty Hate Machine was the first NIN record that resonated with me.
In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson is an interesting ride you might enjoy.
Such as you are and still not seeming to mind by Lazarus Clamp is a pretty low key album I like to throw on in the background when it's raining.

New York/east coast hip hop is boring as hell to me. I have never once liked that style apart from some biggie and wu tang songs.
Not even Nas? Guy is one of the strongest lyricists to ever live.
He’s ok I guess it’s just not for me. I mean I don’t like 2pac or Dre either apart from the beats.
Dre elevates anything he's involved with. He's a shit lyricist, though. Pac is still one of the goats.

Well the good news is Amazon completely refunded my purchase so I can buy a brand new one and still keep the old one... most of the album is listenable so I might be able to sell it for like 5 bucks or something.

Okay, so -- GoodKid, M.A.A.D. City: fucking great. The beat selection on this record is incredible. Each joint is oozing with atmosphere and depth. Dr. Dre being involved obviously doesn't hurt. I think my problem the first time was that I hadn't been sold on Kendrick yet... DAMN. was the gateway drug to GKMC. I doubt I will have the same journey I had with DAMN. On that record, I found myself "discovering" tracks I had overlooked on my first couple of listens (ELEMENT., BLOOD.) Here, almost every joint hit me in some kind of way; besides Poetic Justice (which I just don't enjoy because I don't enjoy Drake), there ain't any filler.
Favourite tracks after first listen:
Sherane a.k.a. Master Splinter's Daughter The Art of Peer Pressure Money Trees good kid Compton The Recipe Black Boy Fly Now or Never
My biggest complaint is the shitty condition in which the record came in; I had to listen to Swimming Pool and Compton through Spotify because the guys on Amazon sold me a lemon. Trying to see if I can get a reissue or refund to buy another copy, but I bought the CD so I can listen to this on the go.

Alright, I like this album. Maybe I just needed a gateway album to get me into his stuff. GKMC record is on its way, should be here by tomorrow night. I'll give it a real isolated listen and see what happens.

I'm sitting at home alone in my room. It gets hot so I have both of my windows open. I hear the children outside running up to my neighbours' doors for some candy. The lights are off outside to let the kids know no one is home.
I remember walking wagons around the neighbourhood with pillow cases full of candy. Choosing my costume a month in advance, only to have it ruined because I had to wear 3 layers of warmth underneath lest I freeze to death. I didn't even prepare a costume this year. My aunt and sister used to walk us around the neighbourhood so my parents could give candy out at home. Being nervous to talk to complete strangers. Used to stay out until 9:30-10 P.M. on school nights; you never knew days could be this long. Now, most of my days don't even begin until 11.
It used to be simpler. My moms is away on business, and my pop is at an AA meeting. My little brother is in university 3 hours away. Both of my older sisters have moved out. It's just me and the dogs.
All this was brought on by the sound of children's winter boots running up my neighbour's driveway. Bummer.

First of all yes you can, Cringing is involuntary. second of all the issue is you voicing your opinion to people who don't care. Tell them not to do it or tell them why they shouldn't but don't give off this passive remark you'd give in a normal conversation. It's a forum encounter.
I don't really care what people care about. What he said made me cringe, so I told him it made me cringe. There's nothing passive about it. I don't understand why you have to get so autistic about the most inconsequential of shit. Maybe if you toned that nonsense down a bit your only friends on this site wouldn't have dumped your ass as fast as they did.

One of the most basic forms of empathy is emotional empathy. ...what other kinds of empathy are there... If someone is expressing an emotion you've experienced then it's not unreasonable to assume you've felt the same or something very similar. "If someone is claiming to experience an emotion you've experienced then it's not unreasonable to assume you've experienced that emotion." Are you intentionally being obtuse or what.
