What still eludes me, is why the people who dislike anime insist on shitting up anime threads like this.
Do you see sports threads getting drowning a spammy sea of chinese cartoons? Is Gaming dominated by JRPG talk? Is economics 101 Serious nothing but Sino-Japanese relations arguments?
No, it's not. So why come into a thread that has Anime in the title with nothing to add other than 'Hurr durr I don't like what you like', I could understand it for the first few threads but this shit has been happening for months now and it's getting on my nerves.
So, why do ya do it?
I wasn't trying to poke fun or judge anyone. I was only making an obersavation why things like MGS or Star Wars are more socially acceptable in society than anime. I couldn't wrap my head around it. But to be fair, I've seen gaming threads derail to anime gifs. Not that I mind, I stay clear of gaming these days anyway.

I care because honestly, it degrades the forum sometimes.
Prove it.
I can't/don't want to. It's just an observation I've had.

What obsession? Can you get more ignorant?
We just enjoy another form of media, thats like saying you people are obsessed with western shit.
Except that being into western shit is normal here. It would be different if you lived at the origin of the media you like... but you don't.
That my friend, Is some Dustin logic.
GG
Uhm, what? I don't read Dustin's posts but sure.
It's this simple:
From a western social perspective, liking anime is weird. Yes there are people who are more tolerant to it, like myself, but by and large, it's not as acceptable as say, liking Star Wars, video games, superheroes, etc....
If you lived and grew up in an asian country, I could understand why you like some anime... it makes sense.
You realize 30 years ago liking video games as an adult was creepy And weird? 50 years ago having a black friend was unacceptable.
You fuckin shitting me kid? "Acceptable"? Who in the FUCK are you to say what people should and shouldn't like?
Yes, I do realise that. You shouldn't care what people think. I don't. I WAS MAKING A FUCKING OBSERVATION, MATE. I didn't know why anime was considered "weirder" than other things.

Oh and quote for failure. I can't even edit on mobile.
I'll just reply to you here. Yeah, I agree with you. People should explore different media from other places in the world... I was only making an observation on what westerners think when someone brings up anime. That's just the way I think, I like to know why people think things when they do. But people take that as arrogance or some other negative trait and twist my words around. I meant no disrespect.

People like what people like. It would be the same with Americans liking Korra, correct me if I'm wrong on that shows origin.
That's like saying I shouldn't like American cartoons because I'm British. But... I do. Many.
My Dustin comment was a way of saying that just came off as very ignorant.
Except that Britain=western society, despite not being western.
I'm not judging anyone for liking anime... and people really shouldn't care, the fact that it bothers them intrigues me. But to deny what people think when you say "I like japanese anime" is just stupid, IMO.
Contrary to popular belief, I don't dislike people who like anime.
I just don't see the idea of only liking things in the country you're from, that's not exactly how you do it.
I think the sad part is, half of the actual 'Weeabos' in the world aren't even Japanese. More so from the UK or the US. Rather, anywhere that's not Japan itself.
I think it has to do with anime being extremely different to what we have in NA. It doesn't fit into the norms, y'know? That's why there's this connotation of weirdness for people who like anime. I'm all for expanding one's interests outside of their geographical location. I love Sicilian music.

Not to mention that a lot of asian cultures are so sexually repressed by western standards that it's weird to see grown humans be associated with it... Take a look at the thread. How many reaction gifs have been posted of little girls?
Who the fuck cares? Who are you to judge? Are they hurting or bothering people? No. You are, though.
I care because honestly, it degrades the forum sometimes. And I'm not judging. I'm simply stating an observation I have. The fact that I don't see how I could "hurt" someone by doing that.

I like the occasional anime, but this forum's obsession is... simply weird. I draw the line at Dragon Ball and Naruto.
I can't even elaborate on it, really... I mean, I love Metal Gear, more so than these people like anime, but it's not weird, y'know? So what is it about anime that makes it less, uhm, "cool" than other things?
It's probably the masculinity associated with MG and also the fact that anime seems to have all female characters, or at least, main characters.
That's an icredibly ignorant standing point and you've actually lost my respect for having it.
It isn't "ignorant" at all. Liking anime in western society is weird, end of story.
*Liking something not widespread is weird so feel bad*
Wow. Just... Fucking wow.
But to deny what associations western society makes with liking anime is retarded.
Then youre just being ignorant with the rest of the ignorant people.
Explain. Because I'm pretty sure I'm not. But I'll conceit defeat if you show me how I'm wrong. That's the kind of person I am. So far that hasn't been done, though.

"My interest isn't lame like yours"
In a social context, yes.
MG isn't as "frowned upon" as anime.
Maybe if you liked Splinter Cell I'd take you seriously.

In my experience, those of us who are more interested in pleasing others over ourselves typically have self-esteem issues and crave praise.
But I mean, it really is the only answer. If you genuinely care about your partner, that is.
