I got Superman: For Tomorrow yesterday, X-Men: Days of Future Past (Rogue Cut) on Tuesday, and David Benatar's Better to have Never Been: The Harm of Coming Into Existence (hardcover) last Friday.

I have the base drawn decently well, but my shading sucks. I'm not even sure how to approach it.

The only games I hate are sequels that insult previous games in the series. To which I can only think of a few.

Just going to list things off that I don't enjoy about the game, not going to mini-review them.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
1. Kojima Productions only made it because Kojima was receiving death threats due to the ambiguity of MGS2's ending. There was no reason for creating a chronological sequel to Sons of Liberty other than to ensure Kojima's survival.

2. Snake's psychological inability to kill himself ruins the character established over the last two decades.

3. There are 9 hours of cutscenes that could but brought down to 5 if they cut out what wasn't needed (Ex. Drebin's monkey smoking and drinking Cola).

4. Boss battles are shallow and uninspired.

5. Big Boss - the titular antagonist of the entire franchise - is brought back to life at the end of the game, for five minutes, just so they can kill off again. All the while, milking Snake Eater's ending just to cheaply emotionalise the player. What's worse, is that they didn't have to do that. David lighting Jack's cigar is a much more emotionally-appropriate and touching scene for the game to have, and it's tainted by the salute.

6. Too much emphasis on weaponry makes it seem that neither stealth nor any of the game's other assets were a high-priority for the developer.

7. Nanomachines are used as a cheap way to "fix" what Sons of Liberty's story did "wrong".

Batman: Arkham Knight
1. Too much emphasis on the Batmobile's "battle mode", which, while fun in short bursts, grows tedious and mundane the further the story progresses. Instead of devoting more time and care to the tried-and-true elements of the game (Ex. combat and predator mechanics), the game suffers as a whole for using the Batmobile as a crutch for the developer's lack of creativity.

2. The entire story reeks of bad fan-fiction. The game was marketed as the franchise's Magnum Opus, and unfortunately, it simply isn't. Every narrative subplot, every character interaction, every line of dialogue, feels like it's been done before. The game advertises high-stakes without ever living up to them for more than the first 2 hours.

3. None of the main characters are of any interest: Batman is Kevin Conroy trying to be what he was in the 90's (and failing), repeating crummy one-liners. Robin is as annoying as Jason Todd was when he was, well, Robin. Nightwing is laughably uncharismatic and cliche. Barbara Gordon is reduced to being the damsel in distress, which just feels like a really cheap shot, considering she's already in a wheelchair. Even Joker is reduced to an immersion-breaking shell of his former laugh-generating self, though, I must commend Hamill for his performance. As always, he's the best at what he does, and what he does, is Joker. Overall, the writing and voice directing are more of an issue than anything else, which is where I should be directing my complaints.

4. The Batmobile's "offensive capabilities" (Ex. "battle mode" and pursuit mode's pacifier rockets), are completely contradictory of Batman's past. He's been hoplophobic since the late 80's, yet he's suddenly okay with using a vulcan cannon and a 60mm machine gun. Right... What's worse, is that, a lot of the time, he's breaking his "no killing" rule by doing one of the following:
i) running unconscious enemies over with the Batmobile
ii) running into conscious thugs in pursuit mode
iii) slamming enemies heads into electrical panels
iv) slamming enemies into electrical fences
v) freezing enemies with liquid nitrogen
vi) snapping necks [cashing cheques]

5. Story feels exceptionally contrived. The Arkham Knight and Scarecrow gather the other big bad's in Gotham to band together and produce $3 Billion. Why do they need that money? For an army. But not just any army - an army of unmanned drones. Why unmanned? So that the developers can have an excuse for including the Batmobile's "battle mode". What's even worse than that, though, is that they don't need an army. THE CITY IS EVACUATED WITHIN THE FIRST HALF OUR OF THE GAME. And to add insult to injury, the Arkham Knight claims to "know every move Batman will make before he makes it". Yet, he, again, he spent $3 Billion on unmanned drones, when he - allegedly - knows BATMAN DOES NOT KILL. His excuse? "You know, I'd be in those tanks fighting you, but then you'd just hold back." Why the fuck do you care if he holds back? You're priority in this game is to kill Batman. That's all you ever whine about.

Coming soon:
Pokemon: Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Halo: Combat Evolved
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

It's much more funny when you picture the voice actor from the Flashpoint movie saying all this shit.

Spoiler
IDEGAF, The Flash is sick.

how the fuck would he have not heard and dodged that bullet?

My best guess is the fact that they were already in a warzone, so hearing a bullet go off is not exactly an unprecedented event.

What would sending transexuals, atheists and anti-natalists to Guantanamo achieve? What danger do they pose to you or society?

Literally what.

"War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war... becomes routine."

Say whatever you want about Metal Gear Solid 4, that line is bad-ass. RIP in penises David Hayter.

I like the expression on his face, and the muscles throbbing. It really helps the globe or whatever it is he's carrying seem that much heavier.

Well, I'm glad you think the face is good. That and hands are easily the most difficult thing to nail.

i kinda like it better turned
it should probably be mirrored though, that way if you wanted to you could show a little bit of the earth on the back...
it kinda looks like this cover, unchanged

I'm not a fan of it being rotated, honestly. But you do bring up a good point that I need to differentiate myself from things people have already done. That's a good idea.

« on: July 16, 2015, 05:32:37 PM »
I'm prone to this. I mean, in recent years I learned to push through it. I didn't have the attention span when I was younger for Super Mario 64, but now I fucking love it. The vague level objective descriptions make exploring the environment much more rewarding.

Even MGS I had trouble adjusting to.

But, at a certain point I just think I don't enjoy a lot of games. "Classics" like Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Halo. They genuinely don't interest me. But not for lack of trying.

16763
The only NIN song I've heard is "Hurt", I think. I'll check this out when I have some time.

Oh, and I really, really liked Black Ops 2's main theme (Reznor composed that). So much so that I figured out how to play it on the piano.

What the fuck? I've always said Ayn Rand is a joke.

You're confusing me with somebody else.

Hmmm. I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember it specifically.

You may have been joking, though. I don't really understand your sense of humour.

"It is a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then...he shoots fire from the skies, and it is difficult not to think of him as a god. And how fortunate we all are that it does not occur to him."

"This is a great split. In many cases, Clark All rights. And then, it's just a shot in the air and it's hard to believe in God. Fortunately, we haven't talked to him."

These are fucking great.

I've seen you claim that Atlas Shrugged is one of your favourite books and that you "highly recommend it", so I'm not quite sure what ">" is for.

Not that I've read the book. It was just the first thing that popped into my mind.

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

Why would I be joking...?

Challenger has stated the he enjoys the book before.

Huh seems familiar.

'Twas the basis of the concept. Not really going to call it that.
