if i were to start getting into comics, like... where would i start

Both Marvel and DC's universes just got "rebooted", so now is a great time to start reading the comics.

If you're more into watching stuff, check out anything from the DC Animated Universe. It's all really good stuff there. But if I had to narrow it down...
-Justice League (the most important and necessary for getting a grasp of the DC Universe, IMO)
--Justice League Unlimited (follows 'Justice League' directly, opening up the story to lesser-known characters. My favourite being Vigilante.)

-Batman: The Animated Series (precedes everything in the DCAU IIRC, followed directly by Batman Beyond)
--Batman Beyond (surprisingly still good, even for today. Follows BTAS, so watch that first.)

For movies, it's a little harder to narrow down at DC, because they're all pretty fucking good. But I'll try.
-All-Star Superman (arguably the best interpretation of Superman ever, though I recommend the comic over the movie. Movie will still suffice, though.)

-Batman: Under the Red Hood (quality adaptation with awesome voice acting. Highly recommended.)

-Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (I think you'll really enjoy this one. It's a little bit more... philosophical than the others.)

-Justice League: Doom (Batfags dick ride this story to death, but still a very good movie.)

-Justice League The Flashpoint Paradox. (arguably the best DCA movie I've ever seen. Highly recommended.)

-Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (good movie, one of the weaker movies, though. Still recommended.)

-The Dark Knight Returns: Full movie (I fucking HATE this story, but a lot of Batfags enjoy it. It's still worth a watch/read if you want to immerse yourself, though.)

Any of those are great.

For Marvel, I recommend the 90's Spider-man show, and Spectacular Spider-man. Nothing else is really all that great from Marvel, animation-wise. Wolverine and the X-Men is also quite good, but my experience with that show is lacking.

For live-action, I reckon you've seen quite a few movies in your time. I'll do a best-to-worst list.

Literally anything from the MCU (from Iron Man 1 to Ant-Man, regardless of some of the shittier movies on the way.)
Spider-man 1/2 (and 3 if you hate yourself)
X-Men
X2
X3 The last Stand (regarded as one of the worst Superhero movies ever, but necessary to understand the next movie...)
X-Men Days of Future Past
Fantastic Four
Superman 1/2 (3 and 4 are god-awful. 1/2 and very dated but still necessary to watch, IMO)
Tim Burton's Batman/Batman Returns ('Batman Forever' and 'Batman and Robin' are good for a laugh. Like Superman, these movies are dated as fuck but still necessary.)
The Amazing Spider-man/2
The Wolverine (decent)
Man of Steel (I really liked it, but most people don't. You probs won't enjoy it if you're not a die-hard fan of Superman like me, or aren't a fan of Snyder's directing style. Still necessary to watch if you want to understand Batman V. Superman)

That seems to be it, for now.

Both my avatars take a long time to load because they're HQ. But that isn't necessary because they're pretty small in dimensions.

Obviously. You could learn a thing or two from my methods.
But I'm not autistic.

Sure you aren't.

The Flood / Re: Why do people want aliens to exist?

it isn't though
There's exactly the same amount of evidence for aliens as there is for God.

That is to say, none at all.

Your belief that aliens exist is as irrational and stupid as believing in God.

Evidence =/= chances, though.

We've seen life sprout up out of the most difficult to endure ecosystems (relative to us). So it isn't unreasonable to think that it's happened elsewhere.

You're probably young and ill-equipped to process your thoughts into coherent statements. I have this problem as well, albeit, a lot less and usually more IRL than online (probably because people are stupid IRL, but whatever).

You just have to work on it, I guess.
I'm actually pretty comfortable.

To me, it's the world that's wrong. So what if I don't want to get all of my point across? If I just want to send fragments, that's fine.

Then fucking deal with the consequences. Like lol, what do you want me to tell you?

Because it would be scarier if we were the only life in the universe than if we weren't.
why

The vast expanse of the universe, and we're the only ones to have developed sentience?

How does that not freak you out?
Emotions are there for a reason.

We feel disgust because our parents show disgust in certain things, so if we find them disgusting we will avoid them as well. We feel disgust because it makes us avoid it. There is logic behind it.

What logic is there in being scared about being alone in the world with only people from your city? You can always expand on your own, and there are lots of people that are so different from you in this city of yours. So what is so scary?

things are, because they are. They aren't there for your sake, and you don't have to interact with them. An empty planet is an empty planet, and because you usually try to exhaust resources you find the thought of it being empty scary. Maybe I didn't hit the nail in the spot with that guess, but the underlying motive probably applies to you. You're being egotistical.
literally what

Not really. With time we'll expand out into those reaches ourselves. With more time there will be countless new intelligent species that are our ancestors.

Well that or we die out.

Descendants, not ancestors.

But I still don't think it's going to happen. It just strikes me as odd (and unbelievably unlikely) that we would be the only sentience in the entire universe. Especially considering how easily life can form.

The Flood / Re: men get paid on average 243% more than women
« on: July 22, 2015, 04:04:00 PM »
But I can, if the raw data shows that males in your age range are more likely to file a claim than females. Additionally, have you tried using a company that doesn't suck ass? Are you sure she has no additional discounts on her plan?
Yes to all. It's the same thing, she just pays less because (apparently) women, on average, are less of a liability than men. Like I said, it could just be in Canada.

Quote
Bro, men die/are injured more at work over all because men WORK while women sit at desks.

Sorry, I completely misinterpreted your post. I thought you meant YOU were a receptionist.

Also, that's a bit of a generalisation. You'd be surprised at how many women work in physical labour.

Quote
If you look at rates for specific industries that are physically demanding instead of the workforce as a whole, it's actually pretty proportional.

Of course, and when you look at wages for specific industries, it's pretty proportional as well. That's why the wage gap doesn't make sense.

Insurance rates are based on raw numbers alone. Nevermind the age discrimination... I think my yearly cost went from 1500 to just over 1000 when I turned 21. I can't argue against that.

My cousin lives in the same city as me. We're the same age and got our licenses as the same time.

She pays $700 less annually than I do. You can't argue against that, hombre.

Well that's because you actually have to try to kill yourself in a work related injury as a receptionist.

You're generalizing an awful lot here.

Perhaps, but I'm going off of what I've seen and heard.

Quote
It's not the male who has to pay, it's the person who's pursuing the date.

While it is true that women making "the first move" is becoming more and more commonplace, it's still doesn't happen nearly as often as the reverse. There's still a stigma that girls making the first move seems desperate (not saying I believe it, but I know people who do think that).

Quote
And once you're officially dating, if your girlfriend insists that you pay for the majority of the meals, you're dating the wrong girl.

It's easy to say that when you're not in the relationship with the girl. Some people aren't strong enough to just "end it" because their girlfriend won't pay for McDonalds. Not to mention, that the girls could be perfect in every other way possible.

Who's generalising now?

Quote
And Mother's/Father's day? Literally laughing out loud if you celebrate either of those.

If I ever have kids, you can bet your ass I'm not going to celebrate them. But, not everyone is like me, unfortunately.

16644
Most of my "offensive" beliefs are a bit too complex for my real life friends to grasp. So it's usually a non-issue.

I don't do any of these things and real feminism teaches women to not expect or want them.

You still pay for higher insurance, though. But good on you that you don't do any of those things, I'm sure the ladies appreciate that.

My point is, what is going to be more attractive to a single girl at, say, a bar?

"Hey, can I buy you a drink?"

"Hey, you wanna buy yourself a drink?"

Pretty obvious choice. It's not just women, either. I mean, if someone offered me a free Coca-Cola, I'm not going to say no. People like free shit, doesn't matter what gender.

The Flood / Re: men get paid on average 243% more than women
« on: July 22, 2015, 03:37:44 PM »
Chivalry isn't a forced thing. A lot of progressive girls opt to pay for their own shit, like, you know, everyone should.

As much as I hope you're joking, I'll counter-point.

As a single man, you have two choices: pay for a woman's drink, or be ostracised by them. Which one are you going to choose? Even if you consider this an "antiquated norm", which you seem to, you have still failed to object to: higher insurance, Mother's/Father's day and greater fatality rates in the workplace.

I mean, maybe once you're in a relationship you can start splitting bills and shit. But that is far from the norm. To deny that is just ignoring the facts.

Feminists don't want equality, they want superiority.

16649
The Flood / Re: men get paid on average 243% more than women
« on: July 22, 2015, 01:42:46 AM »
Being serious here.

Even if the "wage gap" existed, it would still be alright that men make more. They routinely pay for women's drinks, food and gifts, etc. They also have higher insurance rates (at least, in Canada), and statistically endure more fatalities per year than women.

Jim Jefferies, while I consider him a sexist australian cunt (as if I needed more reason to dislike their country), makes a very good point in his stand up, "Bare".

Now, would I like women to make as much money as men? Absolutely. But until we fix these gender stereotypes of chivalry for men, I don't give a fuck.

Shit, Superman and Flash would get their asses kicked.

But, ah, isn't Strange considered omnipotent? He seems like the Marvel equivalent of The Spectre.
