Is it a requirement to finish the other MGS games before playing V? Because I don't think I can wait that long. If you really can't wait that long, watch Snake Eater and Peace Walker's cutscenes on YouTube. I still recommend you play both games eventually, but you'd be better off at least understanding what's going on then being clueless come Tuesday. SE has about 5 hours of cutscenes and PW has about 3, IIRC. No time at all. Kojima has stated that there will be flashbacks to the previous games to help newer players understand, but if reviews are any indication, any ill-versed fan may be left potentially confused by the end of the game. You definitely need to play Ground Zeroes, though.

Is there any reason PO was never ported? Officially, no. My best guess would be that Kojima doesn't see it as canon (as he never worked on it). Also, the gameplay was complete SHIT. But yeah. It might be a mix of those two.

Considering that Portable Ops, the game in question, is the least-played main-line Metal Gear game, they can afford to skip minor plot-points that will likely not affect much of the EU. The games themselves have NEVER put continuity before gameplay or story, meaning that it can essentially be thrown-out altogether if you wanted to. My point being that the games stand on their own, without "digging deeper".

Yeah, some Russian dude claimed that the main theme (2:11) was actually his work . In Snake Eater, Gregson came up with his own main theme, which can be heard in the majority of this video . At around 5:30 is when he switches back to his predecessor's theme. But the Snake Eater theme was used as the basis for MGS4's main theme, "Metal Gear Saga". So... yeah. Which one were you referring to?
