The sad things is that this looks like the most promising game I could play this year.
Aside from TPP, of course, but that goes without saying.

I would go one step further and say that the show is shit, too. Even on it's own. Sure S1~3 are pretty good but 4 and 5 are god-awful, if only from a narrative/direction standpoint.

Free-cam. Kojima wanted to remake all the games the same way he made TPP -- open-world stealth. That's the way I'd want 'em.

Yes and no. I imagine the events of MG1/2 would remain largely the same (really it depends on how MGSV ends). But the ending of MG2 would be altered to have Big Boss survive and somehow apose Liquid in Shadow Moses, and Solidus at Big Shell. I imagine Solidus would be a pretty different character altogether. MGS4 would be a different bag entirely. Essentially, its a reimagining of the previous games. I need to find the article where he talks about this. Its not just replacing Solid Snake with Big Boss -- its changing the entire narrative to the point where Big Boss is THE protagonist.

Eh, I got my money's worth, maybe a little bit much but it didn't bother me as much.
It wouldnt have bothered me as much either if they just came out and said "we need money to make TPP good." Sort of like a kickstarter. Ive definitely gotten my enjoyment out of it but even so, I wouldn't pay $40 for it. Luckily TPP is shaping up to be a $100 value for $60, so it balances out.

People probably just bought Ground Zeroes, not playing the series beforehand, and just thought 'Oooh, it's an action game for PS4, I bet this'll be good! Then complain when it's shorter than they thought.
No, the game is unreasonably short for it's initial price. If it had been released at, say, $10-20, or even free as a demo with another Konami game, it would have been perfectly acceptable. The sheer fact that The Phantom Pain's trailer plays at the game is a testament to what this game really is. I get the TPP probably had huge development costs and they needed to make that up somehow, but they should have come out and said that, to be honest.
