I found it interesting. And all of it is true, too.

I know. It just seems like you're reaching for something that isn't there. Which you can do with any character.

"Volgin lived a hard life. His father died when he was very young, and the burden of the then-crippled Philosopher's was bearing down on him. Already an outsider amongst his peers, due to his supernatural abilities, this isolation was enough to break him into the most sadistic and irredeemable villain in the series, even going so far as to launch a nuclear warhead on his own people to make a point."

See what I mean.

But Bowie's version of TMWSTW is a mess of cocaine and vox clipping.

Midge Ure version is best version, obviously. I'm just saying that the game is full of Bowie nods but no tangible references. Ridiculous.

Liquid was raised from birth to be a killer, got told his entire life that he was the inferior of Big Boss' sons (or perhaps came to the conclusion himself based on no real evidence), got tortured for what's implied to be years in the Middle East, believed he was created to destroy because his genes said so without even attempting to live for anything else, and held an irrational hatred for a brother he hadn't even met before. It's clear he was not at all stable, and snapping at the slightest gesture was entirely understandable given the circumstances.

I really hate it when you make a sub-par story more grandiose with a paragraph of "interesting events".

You did it with Gray Fox, too.

The novelisation says that Eli hated his father and the pat on the back gesture pissed him off because he didn't want Big Boss to like him -- he wanted him to know how much he hated his father.

But they included Ultravox, Billy Idol, Thomas Dolby, Kajagoogoo, Japan, Hall & Oats, Kim Wilde, Europe, a-ha, Dead or Alive, and The Cure.

The only songs I care for:

Rebel Yell
Man Eater
Too Shy
Dancing With Tears In My Eyes

All the other ones are fine but are either overrated as fuck (I'm looking at you, Final Countdown) or just plain bad.

Like, there should have been at least one David Bowie song. Diamond Dogs? The Man Who Sold The World? C'mon. And I don't even like Bowie.

I'm not gonna break down every post like you guys at Sept love to do, so here we go.

Well I will, considering it's the only way to get to the bottom of arguments.

The frequency thing about saving wasn't even that big a deal to me.

It breaks up gameplay inorganically. Fact.

I liked them sometimes but they overstay their welcome.

Quote
Honestly, I miss a lot of the codec crap. I liked to put my controller down and listen to some amazing voice acting.

Yup, that's why I buy games. To put my controller down.

It felt like after MGS 4, Kojima was scared of it.

Kojima stated that he felt they weren't "next-generation" enough for MGSV.

Quote
GTA, Far Cry, MGS V, etc.

MGSV =/= GTA/Far Cry.

MGSV is just roads that connect smaller Ground Zeroes together.

Quote
MGS 3 has more open areas, but you still have paths you have to go down to get to certain areas.

Just like MGSV.

There are parts of MGS3 that are just as "open-world infiltration" -esque as MGSV, believe me.

Quote
You can't just fast travel or take a helicopter to some zone.

Can't do that in TPP, either. Not a super big point of contention but worth pointing out nonetheless.

As for Liquid, his entire appearance in MGSV was a complete let down.

I was expecting Big Boss, at the time of his meeting with Eli for the first time, to already be on the path of a demon. Eli is a promising young soldier with a distaste for adults, but he always looked up to his "father", Big Boss.

Big Boss ultimately kicks his ass, multiple times, and tells him "You inferior POS, I'm sure your brother wouldn't disappoint me like this, with his dominant genes." or something like that, hence his hatred for Solid and Boss.

The only scene in the game I liked was when he was patted on the back after arriving at Motherbase. "Welcome to Outer Heaven." *pat* *shakes in anger, steals Snake's knife and tries to stab him*

Cool scene but they make Liquid wholly unlikable in an entirely different landscape from his first debut. This isn't 1998 where a British accent and cool sounding words like "recessive" and "inferior" make for an interesting story.

I'm referring to the pacing of the story. I feel the pacing of the story for MGS V was off.

It was but that's always the case for Metal Gear games, albeit, some more than others.

Quote
The writing wasn't the best either, but the level design of the other games helped the pacing to everything.

I still don't see how. At least in TPP I can play the game while learning new things, whereas in older MGS games I'm constantly taken out of gameplay to listen to irrelevant dialogue about which frequency is my save feature.

Quote
Sandbox gameplay does not compliment a game like MGS in that regard.

Snake Eater has sandbox gameplay, though.

The music on the cassette tapes were also a let down.

No Nuclear or Elegia. No David Bowie. No Bon Jovi, no Duran Duran.

They didn't even include TBIYTC, Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday, and Calling to the Night.

Snake Eater and Peace Walker had more open places you could go, but they still guided you down paths, Peace Walker especially. It was zones you went to but you followed a path zone by zone.

MGS 4 was basically the same in that you slowly went down a path they guided you on. Some missions in MGS V (such as the mist area with the bloody hospital) kinda did the same thing, but it ultimately took a sandbox effect.

That in itself ruined it because you visited the same areas again and again, and you could before you activate a story mission. That alone takes away a lot of the immersion for me. MGS 4 gave you the illusion the world was more open but you still had that hand guiding you down the path, and Peace Walker literally showed it with a map.

This one just threw you in two boxes and told you to have fun. It didn't help you didn't have to do the story missions in any specific order.

But how does that affect storytelling, at all?

Your logic isn't logical.

You can argue that it's a poor design decision but it doesn't affect plot or writing or dialogue. At all. Which is what "story" refers to.

Some people think Solid and Liquid both have blond hair.
What?

Some people are of the opinion that both Solid and Liquid have naturally blond hair.

The mission briefings in MGS1 support it.

Solid Snake:

MGS1 retconned a lot of the MG canon, so this doesn't surprise me.

So like, is that it for metal gear titles?

The ones with Kojima's name on 'em? Most likely.

But I'm of the opinion that his absence from the series is ultimately a good thing. Evidently he either doesn't know how to manage his time appropriately or he doesn't know how to write.

Either way, there'll be the best man for the job replacing him. I couldn't care less for the gameplay, because it's basically perfection in TPP. They just need to recreate it, add a few extra features, and focus entirely on the story. The only thing I can feasibly see changing is the cinematic aspect, which is a necessary sacrifice.

I mean, really, the only bad Metal Gear game without Kojima's name on it is Snake's Revenge. Portable Ops had a story that fit really well in MGS canon. Peace Walker was built upon that game's gameplay failures.

Revengeance is pretty good.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising was a tough project to finish because it was a completely new concept. I don't blame the team for fucking up.

So Eli's hair got bleached when he was a POW in the Middle East. He's about 13 or so in MGS5...so when the fuck was he captured? Was he prepubescent when he joined the SAS?

I keep telling you, that bleached hair shit isn't canon. Some people think Solid and Liquid both have blond hair.

I honestly think open world ruined a lot of it.

How would the open world affect the story, exactly? Because both Snake Eater and Peace Walker were essentially the same thing.

Let's not blame the gameplay advancements for poor writing.

Nah, Sahelanthropus is the best Metal Gear ever created. Both visually and functionally.

Extremely well done.

No

Spoiler
but presumably Huey never really told anyone (including his son) after MGSV and since no one but Diamond Dogs and XOF know about it's existence, no one ever thought about that sort of design.

Without Huey, the TX-55 was probably just a barebones model with the best they could do in MG1

Apparently five chapters were originally planned. Chapters four and five were cut out during storyboarding, and chapter three ("Peace") was cut during development. The titlecard and a few different materials for it can be found on the disc. Chapter two was just straight up slashed to ribbons.

I heard Ground Zeroes was the first chapter, with Revenge and Race being the second and third, Peace woulda been the fourth (although I think this might still be a possibility. Why else would there be another 7 GBs on the console version?) and chapter 5 woulda been an epilogue like MGS4.

In a perfect world, we get 5 full chapters. But sadly we don't live in a perfect world.
