They said they were done making AAA games sans PES, that doesn't mean they won't use their IPs. Well, as far as I'm concerned, that means they're done using the IP well. I, for one, hope that a MGSV comic will be outsourced to finish out the story.
Yeah, and if we're lucky, full voice acting. Like the ones they made for MGS/MGS2 in the Legacy Collection.

I still love MGSV tho I still maintain that it has the best gameplay in the series.

Correlation =/= causation. Yeah, you weren't saying that. Luciana was, though, and that's what I was arguing. I was not trying to insinuate that you thought one caused the other. There's a lot of animal life especially that is lacking.
When I think desert, I don't exactly picture lots of flora and fauna. But I could be wrong.

Lol, Lemon.
I just want Metal Gear to be finished -- I want the loose ends to be severed. I don't think that's too much to ask. Especially since that's what we were promised.
I'd also like remakes but they don't need Kojima for that.
After that I'd love to see Kojima try his hand at a Red Dead Redemption-style Spaghetti Western cowboy game.

I'd really love to respond Aria but I'm in class right now. I'm at my most eloquent on a desktop, so give me a few hours.

1. Yes, I agree the sandbox in MGSV is empty if you're not in an enemy base. This works in favour for the maps, though. I don't expect Afghanistan to be overly populated.
Africa suffers, to be sure.
2. Yes, the narrative is bad in MGSV. Or, worse than previous games.
However, my point was, that neither are connected. The narrative isn't bad because of the open-world, and the open-world isn't bad because of the narrative.

Agreed.
I don't think I've met a single person here that is without a redeemable trait.

This is what I was afraid of: Konami doing nothing with the IP.
At this point Kojima should just pull a Yookalaylee and make a spiritual successor to Metal Gear.

I didn't include you on my list because I already consider us friends.
We're the two biggest MGS fans on the site. We need to stick together.

There's a reason why half a dozen people have mgs themed names here and nobody is named Sam Fisher. There's no one here named "Arthur Schopenhauer". Maybe he's just underappreciated. More realistically, you're probably right. Still. A series with that influence deserves to be played even if it's only to criticise.

personally, i'd only consider us acquaintances, because we really haven't known each other for even a year, you know what i mean I've probably known [of] you longer than you've known me. I was just a random guy you started throwing "cunts" and "fuckwits" at on Bungie.net, and that wasn't exactly a one-time event back in those days. i base internet friendships in... like, time spent, i guess like, i've known das and aria for about five years, so i'd definitely consider them friends But even IRL, I have people I've known since forever and I don't like them. I mean Aria seems great (she listened to my whole life story [basically] in a PM) but I only started seeing her post around the time Gatsby posted them spoilers. [Das I'm undecided about but that's not relevant to the point.] so i understand your trepidation i guess
Glad you see it my way, at least.

I just don't buy the argument that people won't take me seriously. People take PSU seriously. I think I'll be fine. i'm not saying you have to make friends with everyone on the site or whatever I also wouldn't be able to really determine whether someone was my friend or not. Like the only one I can confidently say is my friend is TBlocks, and that's because I know him IRL. Like, I argue with Plotmaster a lot. Are we friends? What about Lemon? What about you? I just find that if I designate people as "friends" it limits my ability to discuss topics that I feel differently about, out of fear that they might get pissy and start to dislike me. ... Now I'm rambling about stuff I haven't even fully processed /:

I mean, what else can I do, fam?
I'll just retire for the night. You haven't demonstrated how gameplay would affect the narrative -- in any way, let alone negatively. And as I said, your point is moot because every Metal Gear game suffers from pacing. Edit: ffs with this "your" shit i'm too tired for this crap.

failure to acknowledge the people you converse with over the internet as people, and not just words on a screen, gives you no real reason to conduct yourself towards them I treat the internet as a conduit for my brain in it's purest form. Which is no different from how I am in real life, except, there's no verbal barrier between my thoughts and other people. Hope that makes sense. I too, am tired. and depending on how you treat people, this can irrevocably damage your reputation I treat people fine. or people's capacity to take you seriously during discussion that you value so much People will always take you seriously if you're good at making discussion. It's why you're still relevant with your anti-natalist stuff: you argue it well.

It's an honest mistake considering you think a game being a sandbox affects narrative.

People who refer to it as a sandbox, unless directly talking about the map sandbox in Halo 3, do not understand what it means. Well I was under the impression that you were one of those people, so I apologise for trying to appeal to that side of you.

And you can pop anywhere on the map via heli early on, so no, You can't do that. the experience thing isn't very accurate. And yes it is accurate. You can't become invisible in MGS1. Until you unlock it.

Alright, I'm done arguing if you're gonna get like this.
Get like what? You've never heard Halo referred to as a sandbox?

i actually kinda value our capacity to make friendships over the internet--i think we're a lot more than words on a screen, and we shouldn't pretend as though we're just words on a screen Cool. Obviously we see things differently. I care for people's well being but the fact of the matter is, I don't know any of them. I'm here to converse and argue -- that's it. very dangerous mentality
don't see how

It's a sandbox. That isn't, though. Halo is a sandbox, too. You can't go from one side of the ring to the other. Nice try on insulting me from someone who can't even get grammar right. Where have I insulted you? Lol, are you serious? I can get grammar right. Dumb argument is dumb, I obviously made a typo. Sue me. And it doesn't matter if you unlock fast travel, it's still fast travel. You have to unlock bases in Far Cry to go there as well. You can still run around anywhere. Well I mean, it kind of does matter. Your argument is that you can't fast travel in Snake Eater. Well, you can't fast travel in TPP, either. Until you unlock it, at which point, the initial experience is over anyways, and that's all that matters. You might as well say Peace Walker has fast travel.

I don't see the point in needing to remember people's names anyway.
We're all faceless words on a screen, bouncing ideas around. I've always said that the main draw to this site is the arguments you have with people. I just happen to like a few people along the way.

But Eliab, you actually can fast-travel in MGSV via postal service.
Good point. I never use it so I forgot. But it's also worth pointing out that you have to work to unlock this feature. So... kinda two steps forward, one step back for Luciana's argument still.
MGS V isn't open world If we're going by your definition of open-world, it isn't. Which is what I was going by. Also, you can fast travel via boxes in MGS V around the maps. Pay attention. See above. Edit: Also, learn the difference between your and you're plz I know the difference.

but i mean, once you get used to everyone's posting style, it isn't that difficult to guess who's who, tbh
I change my posting styles, too. Not by choice, but for example, I'm kind of pissed off at the moment so my posting style reflects that. Sometimes I'm amped like last night and I'll be a bit more basic. Usually I'm somewhere in between.
I also reserve the right to change my username as I wish. I'm trying to find my niche.

Just because Kojima says the codec stuff doesn't feel next gen, doesn't mean his opinion should negate the ones I, or anyone else opposing it feel. When I said I enjoyed codec stuff, I mean it immersed me in the story far more than a cassette did. Don't cherry pick my words when I say putting down the controller. The first part of your statement has no relevance. I was simply addressing your concerns about Kojima being "scared" of codec conversations. The second part, I don't really care about. Both the cassette tapes and the codec calls are stupid, but at least the codec calls make you focus on the discussion. I always miss details because I'd rather be playing the game than listening to a conversation in the background. but you still had to sniper fight the SAME THING AS QUIET and not booby style, Not a point of contention but I think Quiet's fight on Extreme difficulty is the best boss battle in the series. and then take a long tunnel and crap. It guided you. There were paths that led out into open zones. And MGSV has those, too. I mean yeah, fundamentally they're built as different games. But your argument that the story suffered (or, immersion) as a result is kind of ridiculous because Snake Eater did it years ago and it's the best story Metal Gear has ever told. Also, I was comparing MGS V to GTA and Far Cry in the simple fact that they are open world. That is it. You need to listen to me when I bring up the comparisons and not just say it's not it to make a point sound more "correct" to you. lolwat MGSV isn't even an open-world, though. It's just small sandboxes connected via roads. Kojima was always very conservative about the open-world label for a reason. And yes, last I checked you COULD fast travel in MGS V and take helicopters to certain areas. I don't know what you've been doing this entire game.
Nope, you can't. You can go back to ACC and then travel to a location, but that's not different from the mission select screen from Peace Walker.
