The Flood / Re: Justin Trudeau files 35 million workplace harassment complaints against Canada« on: October 24, 2015, 04:43:08 PM »I wish I knew what this picture implied. But yeah, I didn't get to read the article on mobile for some reason when I commented initially. 12483
The Flood / Re: Justin Trudeau files 35 million workplace harassment complaints against Canada« on: October 24, 2015, 04:41:47 PM »The public really is stupid. They vote for people based on their looks, race, or gender rather than their actual political stances. Sigh... Except no, Trudeau was elected because his party had the best chance of kicking out Harper. Not to mention, his excellent platform. 12485

Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 03:12:10 PM »spew some pseudo knowledge (septagon should learn when to do that) on the issue. Pseudo-knowledge? It's better than not saying anything at all. It's actual a huge problem I have with this site. If you make a thread saying "Can someone help me understand the feminism issue?" No one wants to help. But if I made a thread titled, "Feminism is the true god" or some shit, you can bet your ass Mordo would be on that shit like a fly on shit. See what I mean? Someone like me cannot do what he sets out to do (learn) on this site unless I take a definitive stance on things, because people only feel inclined to "prove me wrong" when I try to do the same. It's off topic but I needed to be said. /rant 12487

The Flood / Re: Immortality vs Having Kids« on: October 24, 2015, 02:05:17 PM »Gotcha.Yeah... Well, your intentions are different from Verb and I. We want kids to stop being born 'cuz it's wrong, you want them to stop being born because their parents are annoying.. ? So it's not really the same but I definitely understand the thought behind it lol 12489
Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 01:42:20 PM »Also it is ironic to see you discuss about how everything is predetermined without noticing this very topic is predestined and our decision and conversation is predestined. Who says I didn't notice? I just don't care as it makes no difference. 12490

Gotcha.
I don't think you want ALL people to stop having kids. Just some people. 12492

The Flood / Re: Immortality vs Having Kids« on: October 24, 2015, 01:15:05 PM »So are you antinatalist too then? I'm making a list and checking it twice! Yeah. Though I think Verb and I are the only ones here who identify as such. 12496
The Flood / Re: OP got a girls number« on: October 24, 2015, 01:13:17 PM »Canada... You guys have an army? Canadian military has some of the best special forces on the planet. But yeah, everything else is lacklustre and the government treats 'em like shit. 12497

The Flood / Re: Immortality vs Having Kids« on: October 24, 2015, 01:07:59 PM »tbf, rationalities that work against it have existed since before the bible, And to be fair, none of them are any good. And the Bible is likely not the first instance of the "reality is shit" meme. Quote and imo it's kinda edgy, and i feel free to make that judgement of it That's fine. That's usually people's only response to the philosophy. "Lmao edgy kids" or whatever. 12499
The Flood / Re: Immortality vs Having Kids« on: October 24, 2015, 01:02:00 PM »
What strikes me as odd about the public perception of anti-natalism is that they treat it as some edgy, hipster, new age bullshit that started in the dark bowels of the internet.
When in reality, people have been cursing fate since the very start of critical thought. Ever read Ecclesiastes? Best part of the Bible. 12500

Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 12:42:34 AM »If they're predetermined to commit crimes, then everybody else is predetermined to stop them. Of course. I don't think anyone is in defense of "Just do you, criminal". Well, I'm not. I'm just wondering how ethical our current system is, I guess. Quote Yeah, fundamentally, we might all just be predictable sacks of chemical reactions, but it doesn't seem like it. It feels like we're in control of our actions, so we might as well act accordingly. An interesting take. 12503

Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 12:24:04 AM »Is it their fault? Yes, and no. I like to lean towards no because empathy I guess. But in the context of their system . . . they do as they are designed to, and in that sense it is entirely their fault. Yeah, it's definitely not as cut-and-dry as I normally like things to be. 12505
Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 12:18:59 AM »I don't disagree with that assessment at all, though I might word it more carefully so as not to make thieves sound inhuman. Yeah, it's late. I could have worded that better. I could certainly see myself stealing a loaf of bread under those circumstances. Quote Nevertheless, where does any sort of free will come into play there? Well, that's exactly my point -- free will doesn't come into play. These people cannot choose to not think this way, so how much of it is really their fault? 12506
Serious / Re: If free will doesn't exist...« on: October 24, 2015, 12:15:05 AM »It may not be "their fault" in the sense of a free agent making a bad decision, but a human as a system is capable of rationality and judgement without having free will. Law is based on that fact and has no need for free will as a concept. Law is natural just as human behavior is. Sure, a human is capable of rationality, but not the same rationality that everyone else possesses. For example, a man with a starving family could rationally decide that the end justifies the means for stealing a loaf of bread. Or, in a more extreme sense, that someone deserves to die. Clearly these people don't operate on the same level of rationality that we do, but again, that isn't their fault. They may have mental deficiencies or genetic predispositions. 12507
