i fucked up and hit edit instead of reply and i couldn't salvage your old post. sorry about fucking that reply chain.
basically what i said in the post i accidentally edited was that scheaduling issues and him not having the time to do his work are bad management. none of the other studios i mentioned are plagued with the problems toei comes with and this includes when you compare their one shot ovas and movies. if they actually had good planning and project management their best people would have more than enough time do their work, but as i mentioned before toei just kind of shits stuff out because they know people will buy it anyway.
other studios have some pretty extensive planning stages before any project actually gets started. studios like ufotable will typically spend a few months planning things out before they actually get started on a new season and it really shows in the final product.
i just pulled a couple random images out of a folders here for an example
i see where you're coming from. i do think it's a bit unfair to compare seasonal anime to long running, though. to get back to the crux of the argument, the art of dragon ball super isn't hindered by the schedule or the management or toei not caring about consistency. it's entirely the character designer's fault that super looks the way it is, and takahashi's """fault""" to completely forego the character designs in favour of a more traditional look. i mean, i would love love LOVE Super to be seasonal or even have a godly schedule like Pokemon Sun and Moon that has episodes being worked on 20 weeks in advance but those are still pretty novel concepts. i guess what im saying is, for a weekly anime with a really poor schedule, super's production has been really great, especially since the special. lets hope the rumours of a hiatus after this arc are true, so they can focus on the movie and really set the schedule straight for the show when it comes back in 2019.

I was so glad that Tate had like the best animation cut in Episode 110, being most of Ultra Instinct Goku vs Jiren. Episode 5's scheduling was so unfair to him and he's had plenty of great moments like Trunks vs Black over the forest, Vegeta's beatdown of Black and I really enjoyed SSB Goku vs Hit.
i loved the goku vs. frieza fight he did. his work in 118 was pretty exceptional too but honestly the storyboarding is what elevated those cuts so much.

you honestly need to watch more chink cartoons if you think the super team is "incredibly talented". there are some talented people working there yes, but in comparison to the rest of the industry they're pretty low tier overall.
if the team is full of incredibly talented people, then the team is incredibly talented. i'm not saying they've been able to fully show off their skills (shida, my favourite animator, in particular has been lacklustre as a KA) or even, that supers animation is incredible. but its chocked full of talent no matter how you slice it.

even then several of the staff dont work at toei and are freelanced
it's a problem toei has had across all their shows for over a decade now. they make tons of money, but refuse to spend any of it on creating a consistently good looking product because they know people will eat up whatever they put out. the management at that studio is complete crap. their planning is pretty much nonexistent and they keep on people that should have been let go ages ago and replaced with more talented individuals.
well, i can't speak for other toei products. but beyond yamamuro, the super team is incredibly talented and deserves to be there (for the most part). while the schedule is still not fantastic, after yamamuro stepped aside as the series director (just after Tournament of Gods Arc iirc) things have been really excellent in terms of production. super is actually a better animated show than Z was. the main problem (and i think is your problem too) is the character art. the design sheets are so stiff and unfriendly to animate that it results in a worse looking product, despite showcasing greater technical skill. tate is probably the best animator on the project but his loose style really doesn't jive with the stiff character design sheets, and so he sticks out like a sore thumb and gets unfairly shit on. that's where takahashi comes in and supervises an episode, making corrections to look more like the show he grew up on and everybody creams in their shorts. 114 showcases this better than 122. Z was always a show that basically sold itself on its incredible character art and thats it. even for its time, the instances of sakuga weren't ever much to write home about. super on the other hand places a much smaller emphasis on character art (thank god because it would look terrible) and attempts to make the fights a lot more technically impressive. it's not because they don't spend money or because it's poorly managed. that may be the case with other projects but i know for a fact that it isn't on Super.

wish toei could stay consistent with their art style. not only were there scenes in this episode that looked completely out of place when compared to the rest of it, but the preview for the next episode looks downright awful.

biggest issue with the new ep is that the animators under takahashi really stand out in comparison to his KA. karasawa didnt do so nearly as much in 114 and his art meshed well with taka, particularly his shading. direction and story boarding was on point here though. some new stuff for sumitomo too.

She made herself a platform on spouting ludicrous views to appease a certain croud, she absolutely rates games on how feminist friendly they are, and her influence at its peak heavily changed the industry for the worst.
Do we soon forget the money she asked from people, promising a video game series that remained long unfinished for years, also strategic butt covering.

liking a show for its animation is the equivalent of liking a game for its graphics
it's not that you're not allowed to like good animation or good graphics, but those are very superficial things to cite as your primary reason for liking whatever it is you like
i think the difference with games is that they can't be passively experienced like other artforms, but if someone wants to only like games for their graphics, then i'd say it's only as superficial as the person's reasoning. if it's something like "look how realistic it looks", then yeah, that's pretty superficial. but if it's something more like, "look how flawlessly animated the character's movements are. that's not mocap, that took a real level of skill to pull off." then i'd say that's more than a fine takeaway to look for in the medium. this is what i do. there's a reason i watch anime without subtitles. it helps me focus on the key animation, direction and storyboarding because that's what i find is the only most interesting thing about the medium. anime is so much more expressive than western animation. it's analogous to enjoying a movie for it's cinematography.

Thinking you missed the mark here. It's the lack of motivation that's holding me back. I'm quite comfortable with who I am and where I am so I have no reason to want to change, grow, etc.
i'm very rarely wrong about these sort of things but hey, it's just a forum and you might be completely different offline. i would have no way of knowing. if youre comfortable with who you are, why do you care about verbatims opinion of you so much? why go to try and prove that youre smart by taking a bunch of phony IQ tests and bragging about the results? may be something to think about.
That joke just keeps on going. I haven't taken any online iq tests, or any legitimate ones for that matter. Just being silly like I usually do.
Verbatim's opinion means as much to me as anyone else's does. They're useful for insight, but they rarely impact me all that much.
Tbh he's probably not that far off with his estimation.

Thanks for the kind words, but I'm nowhere near where I need to be. It's been really excellent to see myself progress so much these past few months, but I'd need like, another 10 years of this kind of improvement to be even a lowly in-betweener at Toei. Which is fine, and I'm determined to get there, but I've only been really drawing for a few months and don't have the background and expertise to do anything I really want to. I have all these cool cuts in my head but I just don't have the skill to bring them to life.
I am comfortable in saying that my shading game is top-tier, though.
One thing I will say is that you should try different angled and poses man, learn the human anatomy etc. etc.
Oh, I am don't worry. You guys only see the really polished stuff, but I'm 100% moving outside my comfort zone regularly, too.    I do the head-on and 3/4's angles because they're the most common in animation, and I want to master them more quickly than the others, but I realise that I should have some universal understanding of perspective. That's where my lack of experience comes in, though. This is also without any references so I am building my personal judgment at the same time. I've pretty much left redraws in the past.
