Gaming / Annual E3 Predictions Thread« on: June 08, 2017, 12:49:29 PM »
I'll try to not be so obvious with stuff like "Halo 6 announced", but this year marks the first time I haven't paid much attention to the industry, so I don't know how accurate my guesses will be.
First off, Legend of Zelda Story DLC trailer (plus gameplay for new shrines and outfits). No Death Stranding gameplay, no release date. Insomniac Spider-man gameplay, Q2 2018 release. Jak and Daxter announcement (this is the year I'm finally right about it.) TLOU2 gameplay, Q4 2017 release date. Nothing for Metal Gear Survive. Think that's about it. 157
Gaming / Should I buy the Nintendo Switch or a PC?« on: June 07, 2017, 09:21:36 PM »
I've been putting aside 50 bucks a paycheck for the last couple months and I've come across enough for a Nintendo Switch...
But aside from Legend of Zelda, there really isn't much for me to play on the console. Meanwhile, I've been meaning to build a half-decent PC for quite some time, and if I put another hundred bucks into the funds, I can make a pretty solid rig. What do you guys think? Either way, I'll be putting 50 bucks away every paycheck until the Q4 of this year to buy something for myself come Christmas. 158

God, I really fucking hate white people.
Most entitled, lazy, crooked fucking demographic I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They work to leave early and drink their paychecks away. Scheming and manipulating their way to a half day's work. Say what you will about the middle eastern/Mexican population, but they work fucking hard. 169

As some of you may know, I work as a mechanic on small engines and cleaning equipment. Recently we've acquired a few beat-up machines for cheap to sell for a profit, and I've been tasked with making them uber pretty to fetch a higher price. As with all things, I give it my best shot. Turns out, I'm exceptionally good at restoring these things. So good, the machines I've worked on so far have had their initial cost increased by $1500.
Anyways, one of our biggest clients (a guy known as Siva, someone I've cultivated a relationship with over the last couple of months) was REALLY impressed with the work I was doing. He kept dropping hints on my bosses basically asking them if they'll clean up some of his machines. They weren't really interested, but I definitely was. So as I was helping him load up his machine into his truck, I asked him if he'd be interested in hiring me to clean his machines after work hours or on weekend. He was ecstatic, asking for my name and number. I'm expecting a call from him tonight. Feels pretty good, as I'd be making 300-900 bucks for 5 hours of work, depending on the number of machines. 174
The Flood / Can you think of any good movies where the creative process was impacted by...« on: May 01, 2017, 07:27:24 PM »
Can you think of any good movies where the creative process was impacted by substance abuse?
I have this assignment where I need to analyse multiple pieces of media, and my question inspects the impact of substance abuse on the creative process. I can pretty easily come up with stuff for music, but I'm drawing a blank on films. I could think of a few movies that use subtance abuse as their topic (Wolf of Wall Street, Requiem For A Dream), but I have no idea if the creators were necessarily influenced by substance abuse while writing it. I think DeNeiro and Scorsese drank and wrote a movie together (they mention that in an episode of Community) but I don't know which one or if that's even true. Turns out, I should be mostly judging the content of the art itself rather than the context of its creation, but my teacher is in love with my question and doesn't want to see it changed, so she's opened up my options to documentaries and non-fiction films. She suggested something along the lines of the Kurt Cobain documentary or a Johnny Cash film that I can't remember. Any help would be fantastic. 175
The Flood / Looking for a fun mechanical project for my weekends this summer - Suggestions?« on: April 30, 2017, 08:01:44 PM »
My grandparents own a cottage on a bay up north and since I have decent car of my own now I'm going to be spending most of my weekends up there with them. My cousin, another mechanic, spends most of his weekends up there, too. I want to have a weekend project with him that would be kind of cool to bond over and I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions. Obviously my first idea was a project car, like a dinky Astrovan or old pickup we could supe up with a cool paint job and sound system, but I wonder if there's anything else that might be fun.

Serious / The Redemption of General Butt Naked« on: April 24, 2017, 07:58:22 PM »
If you have some time, I'd love to hear what you guys think about this documentary. It's about an hour and a half. I'll summarise if you don't have time, but I recommend watching it just for the interviews and apologies.
YouTube It's about a man named Joshua Blahyi, a born-again Christian minister in Africa responsible for the death, maiming or rape of over 20,000 people during the Liberian civil war. During this time, he was known as "General Butt Naked", a notoriously vicious man known for running into battle completely naked with only a cutlass and a rifle to cover himself. He would run into villages, rape the women, bang babies heads against rocks, and maim the grown men by cutting both their hands off. Near the end of the war, he went into exile, coming out 10 years later as a reformed, born-again Christian preacher. The documentary follows him from village to village speaking with some of his victims from the war, and asking them for forgiveness. Some of the stories are harrowing. About halfway through the documentary, he voluntarily puts himself at the mercy of the TRC, a commity designed to try war criminals from the Liberian Civil war, with Blahyi being close to the top of the list. He admits to everything and claims that he came forth of his own volition to demonstrate his guilty mind and desire for forgiveness. He also talks about his peaceful crusade to apologise to all his victims. As a result, the TRC recommends amnesty for him, a pill many of his victims find hard to swallow. He starts to receive death threats in the mail, and fearing for his own life, stays at a refugee camp outside of Ghana for his safety, leaving his family and disillusioned followers behind to a life of poverty, drug abuse and sickness. But the kicker here is the way he speaks to people. Maybe it's a cultural thing, I don't know, but I get the feeling that these people are just incapable of emotional honesty in their tone and body language. Blahyi only expresses remorse or empathy for his victims in his words; he imposes his apology on people, blocking their path if they try to walk away from him. At one point, he confronts a kid who saw his whole family killed at the hands of Blahyi's men, who begins to ball his eyes out at the sight of Joshua. After hearing his apology, the kid grants Blahyi forgiveness. Butt Naked in response, offers him an emotionless, one-handed hug so he doesn't have to drop his hat on the floor. What do you guys think. 177
