shutting this down once and for all potato chips are an american invention; the proper terminology is chip. french fries are either french or belgian; the two countries cant seem to decide who did it first. they've been called french fries for at least a century, and it's quite probable that the term french fries is of american origin as well. the first printed occurrance of "french fries" is from an 1856 book called "cookery for maids of all work" by "e warren," but i cant find much more info than that. someone feel free to figure that out for me. here's some good info on the history of french friescheckmate, you contrarian eurotrash salt miners. learn your damn history

time for some more fun facts. the english language as we know it is at least half french, with another large chunk of the vernacular having roots in various germanic and nordic languages. only about 12% of the words in the modern english language are actually english.
