as a fairly new member myself, all the shitposting and childish in-fighting isnt very attractive. on the other hand, the quality members are great and the site is well designed and well managed. the pros outweigh the cons, but its easy to see how the community may seem abrasive or unwelcoming to new people.

I've wanted to try and come up with a way to play singleplayer DnD before.
you could do it. just draw up a storyboard and be your own DM. it'd be boring as all hell and you'd be crazy for doing it but it wouldnt be hard

ive played a fair amount of DnD. i also have some experience with Traveller. im not sure what ruleset our DM used but we had a really lax ruleset to allow for a pretty casual experience, and since we were all good IRL friends it was a blast. really, the experience is what you make of it. i'd recommend making sure you have someone who has DM'd before or is good at storyboarding, because its pretty important to have an outline for your adventure, or else you're just rolling dice and happening across orcs and rogues every now and then and thats just boring as hell
