not just ancient: darth plagueis was palpatine's mentor! when he's smiling while talking about plagueis' death? yeah its because he's totally reminiscing on the time he murdered his mentor in his sleep.
i mean, anakin had no way of knowing that, but he should have been tipped off either way. the Sith were an ancient order that had established galactic empires. he should have been entirely familiar with the nature of Sith philosophy as part of his Jedi training. palpatine's plan only worked because anakin is literally the dumbest character in star wars. even jar jar would have said "WAIT YOUSA SITH!"
In a universe occupied by the force and with Sidious being supposedly powerful, of course Anakin didn't see it. Considering what Anakin was dealing with at the time, how he never seems to think rationally, and whatever power Sidious was exerting on him, of course his judgement is clouded. It's easy to look at it as an outsider retrospectively like you are but you have to put yourself in his shoes.

The title of the villain in Mistborn: The Final Empire. After b.next rolled around I decided to change my username and not too long before I had just finished the book. I remembered him and thought it was a cool title that worked well as a username.
My name before was Overlord so it still also worked with my "evil ruler" thing.
