Gaming / Re: Is Fallout 4 worth the money?
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:09:17 AM »
Good analysis, but saying the game looks similar to 3/NV does not mean they are saying it's bad. I think you'd be fooling yourself to say 4 isnt mostly a continuation of the games on last gen. Shooting mechanics aside (which is an excellent and welcome improvement), this game functions almost identically to those games. No one is saying it's a bad game but simply put, it isn't groundbreaking like 3 was, because well; there isn't anything new here that is shockingly amazing. Just tweaks and refinements, which is perfectly fine.
Oh sorry. I kinda misread what you meant since and got a different tone.

Yeah, it builds upon the foundations it build on Fallout 3 (which was completely different from the other ones), so there is nothing bad about that. The foundation itself was perfect, and improving it only serves to immerse you more.
Yeah I worded it a bit negatively, my bad.

Game looks great, can't wait to get my hands on it once I can scrap up the money.

Well yeah there's the old ones as well. Just figured most people think of 3 and everything after, rather than 1/2/Tactics.
I'll actually answer your question for you. May be a bit biased, but I want to give more than just "lol no it sucks" or "omg it's good".

Fallout 4 is similar to NV and 3 in that they are Fallout games with returning elements such as the Brotherhood of Steel, some weapons, enemies, etc. Typical things you'd expect from a sequel in an established universe.

From a technical standpoint, it surpasses both of them. First off, the combat was the main focus they needed improving on, and they did. The gunplay feels fun now like your other FPS's and not so much a chore now a days. ADS is natural, sprint, dynamic cover system, bullet detection solid, and VATS adds a neat component in that not everything comes to a freeze, but goes in slow mo. My only complaint would be there is no bullet time that Project Nevada had, but it'll get modded in.

In terms of depth, it far exceeds what the others did. You can modify your weapons and armor now by limb pieces instead of a whole thing. For example, the armored Vault 101 suit was famous in Fallout 3, but in this game you can actually put the pieces on yourself, CREATE pieces for it, and there are many different ones. Same with the weapons in that there are an abundance of choices for each part of each gun.

Settlement building is also something entirely new, and actually fun to do. I'll just link you a video so I don't make this post longer and you get the general gist of it.

YouTube

As for companions, they are much better than they were in Fallout 3/Skyrim, where they were known for being rather on the boring side. They have personalities now, conversations pop up more as you travel with them, and they'll even contribute to your conversation with other NPC's on the side. Think of it like Mass Effect where you're doing a mission and talking to someone, and Garrus chips in as well. They are also pack mules so yay.

My only complaint about them is the follow distance can be a bit far sometimes, so that can get annoying.

I can't/won't comment on the main story as much because I feel that's up to you to discover, and I feel it's unfair to give an open world game like Fallouts/Elder Scrolls games (or even something like GTA)  a main focus on story missions.

I CAN say however, that it's like Skyrim in one way, and in a GOOD way. You'll run into people talking in conversations (by the way, when you talk to people, it's not always just 1 on 1. Other's can add to the conversation too and actually have back and forth going without the words overlapping) and mention something like say "I heard the so and so factory had so and so happen to it", and you'll get a quest in misc saying to go investigate it. Same with map markers in that talking to some random guard could mark a place on your map.

So overall, I'd say this game is a vast improvement. Anyone who says it's similar and making it sound BAD, are simply looking to hate on it if you ask me. From a technical standpoint, none of the other Fallout games can even compare to it. Same with the amount of depth in this game. I think Bethesda took a lot of criticism from Skyrim (too shallow) and Fallout 3 (brotherhood was too white knight) to heart, and really showed they can improve on it.

They also took direct notes from the modding community and added those things in the game as well (such as dynamic weather and Rad storms), showing they're willing to listen. And obviously mods are another thing.

So yes, I'd say this game is worth your $60 if you're interested in the genre. It will give you hundreds of hours of gameplay, it looks beautiful, it's immersive (the ost's are amazing), and it still has some of the quirky humor Fallout games have, such as funny stories when sneaking and listening to random Raiders talk about stuff.

Edit: And as mentioned before in comments, I'd go with what people here who you know have actually played it say, rather than some anon on some other website. You tend to get a better source that way.

Just get 3 and NV for now. They're super cheap and f4 isn't too much different from what I know.
You're retarded
How? Not giving an opinion on the game because I haven't played it yet, but many critics are saying it's very similar to 3 and NV, not that there's anything wrong with that.

If you haven't played the series yet, isn't it fair to suggest playing some of the earlier ones that you can find cheap? Especially when they are great games?
Why the fuck are you listening to actual critics when we're the most reliable motherfuckers on the Internet?

And no, fallout 3 and New Vegas were boring pieces of shit. They only get praise nowadays because *LE OLD GAME IS SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY JA JA JA JA

They've been considered excellent games since they released, age is irrelevant. People have always liked them. Nice edgy opinion man.

Meh, to be honest, Fallout 3 and New Vegas didn't have the Fallout feel that I had (Even thought New Vegas was fun, I just didn't get that feel), Fallout 4 was the closest thing I got from a Fallout feel.

Nothing memorable/no noteworthy scenes.
How can someone be this wrong
How can you be so wrong about my opinion. Shrek 2, and 3 and 4 for that matter, don't need to exist at all. They were made for $$$ and it shows.
Three and Four were unnecessary.

I could honestly care less if Two was for money (Which really all movies are, so that doesn't matter), it's easily the funniest of the four films.
Well I don't watch shrek for the laughs, I watch it for the story and the lore.

So agree to disagree.

Shrek 1 was fantastic and the rest were all horrible cash grabs. Pretty absurd you guys prefer 2. It expands the lore and that's about it. Nothing memorable/no noteworthy scenes.

That damn fight scene in 1 is fantastic.

Did you even watch Shrek 2?

Kill yourself, shrek 2 is the best.
YES I DID BITCH

Was surprised by how good it looked (visually) when I saw it today. Maybe down the line I'll try it out, because I love uncharted, but the 2013 game did not rub me right.

But I'm feeling pretty mixed overall. Her nipples are gross, but she has a perfect ass. Her torso is weird, but her face is great.

One of the best multiplayer modes in the series, but a very so-so campaign.

It's a good entry overall.
