Serious / If you don't like "under God" don't say it
« on: September 27, 2014, 12:51:52 PM »
http://americanhumanist.org/news/details/2014-09-atheist-student-sits-out-the-pledge-of-allegiance-th

Or, y'know, not.

Quote
The student, a ninth grader at Right Choices Alternative School, identifies as an atheist and opposes the phrase “under God” in the Pledge. When he has attempted to remain seated at his desk in a quiet and undisruptive manner during the Pledge recitation, his teacher has instructed him to stand, has told him that school policy requires him to stand and has also threatened him with punishment. In addition, the teacher has argued with the student about his atheism, has questioned the student’s patriotism and has insisted that his actions are offensive to members of the U.S. armed services. The student contacted the American Humanist Association’s Appignani Humanist Legal Center through the organization’s DontSaythePledge.com campaign website.

Jesus fucking christ.

If the best government is that which governs least, how do you explain the socialist-based governments of places like Finland and other Nordic countries where people are really happy?
>Scandinavia
>Constant tension between muslim immigrants and the native populace
>political tension between radical leftists and neo-nazis
>you can murder someone and get off with a 20 year prison sentence

Truly the most progressive of nations
Doesn't sound any different than what we've got in the US.

I don't believe we are 'persecuted'. I mean getting called retarded for believing God is one thing but being thrown into a Colosseum to get eaten by a lion is another.
They are in Africa do you watch the news?
Quote
Seriously speaking, why do some Christians believe they are persecuted in a 1st world country with religious freedom?

I just think its in bad taste to ask someone why they believe in God.
But that's not what is happening here.

Name me a society that has based its values on the likes of Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, David Hume, Bertrand Russell, et cetera, that is even vaguely comparable to the shortcomings and atrocities of religious or worshipful states.

KB+M is superior for everything except flying/driving games, where a joystick/wheel is best.

Depends on the person. For me, keyboard and Mouse is for flying, strategy, and some FPSs

Everything else I enjoy on controller better, as well as most FPSs. Halo on Xbox feels much better than Halo on PC to me.
I don't think you understand. The controller is not better for objective reason, mostly because things like the analog sticks are not as accurate as a mouse.

And, name me a moral act which can be committed by a believer which can't be committed by a non-believer (prayer doesn't count).
This intrigues me the most.

What do ya know. Another God thread where atheists make fun of religious people!

Fucking lowlifes.

What do ya know. Another post from PSU complaining about atheists.

Business as usual.

Of course I'm complaining about them (you).

Whenever someone posts why they believe in God, you have 3 warrior atheists jumping out of the woodwork and making fun of them.

You're an atheist? Thats all good. Do you. Why do you guys feel the need to ridicule every religious person?
Except it's apparently not "all good" with you. Any time an atheist mentions something about the Pledge or "In God We Trust" on our money, for example, it's a problem for you.
Yep, because atheists make those things a big deal when they really arent.

Its not really a problem in my book, just slightly annoying that atheists have nothing better to worry about.
The fact that it's these "little" things we go after is a good thing. Atheists aren't being beheaded in the streets or being rounded up and executed. We have relatively few problems compared to other areas of the world, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep fighting for them.

Can a post even be relevant without adding to the discussion?
If I were to say "Max is a shitposter" right now, it'd be relevant.

It wouldn't, at all, add anything though.
How would it be relevant? I'm not a shitposter.
The thread is about shitposting, and you're posting in it.
Posting a thread about shitposting does not make anyone who responds a shitposter.

While the post in question may have been phrased abrasively, it was certainly relevant to the discussion.
Relevance =/= adding something to the discussion.

ITT: Door is a whiny bitch who can't have a discussion, so the throws a tantrum.

Good job.
Do you have any understanding of what went on in this thread? Like at all?
I do. There was discussion, then you throwing a tantrum and being a baby.
I fail to see how you can interpret my spamming the thread with shitposts as a tantrum.
It's no different than a 3 year-old putting her fingers in her ears and screaming LALALALALALALALALALALALAAAAAAAAAAAA I CAN'T HEAR YOU ALALALALALALAALALALAAA
Or maybe I was just trying to see how many posts I could get in before the lock, retard?
Which is SUPER fucking constructive.

Either way you look like a baby. Knock it off.
The thread was, as far as I know, about to be locked. No harm in fucking around.
I mean, only if you don't care that you look like a baby, sure.
You're throwing a fit because I spammed a thread that was about to be locked, and I'M the baby here
I'm not throwing a fit about anything. I'm having a discussion with you.

considering this quote came from the user who always demands shitposting be banned...
A point of view you don't agree with ≠ shitposting. Or even a point of view you find offensive ≠ shitposting.

Grow up.
If the post is of no use to the discussion then yes, it is a shitpost.

I agree with the quote, but the wording and application makes it a shitpost.
No, it doesn't make it a shitpost.
A shitpost does not have to be intentionally stupid or a joke. That would be an ironic shitpost.
So anything you don't like could be a shitpost.
That's literally the definition of a shitpost. The only real determinant is how many people consider what to be useless or inimical to discussions.
I disagree. A shitpost is either nonsense or doesn't add to the discussion.

While the post in question may have been phrased abrasively, it was certainly relevant to the discussion.
