I agree. There should be religion classes in all schools.

Wait... there aren't? o.O

Bloody hell, everyone should be taught about the main religions in an R.E/R.S class.
At least, they are over here in britain <.<
Yeah, there's pretty much no religious classes in public high schools in the US. *Some* have a religious history elective, but that's about it.

I think it's probably better that you go to see a Psych before looking for a job then, try and get those issues resolved before you enter the workplace >.>
Yes absolutely this.

If we are to teach the Abrahamic creation story in school, we must also teach every other creation story.

Hindu, Buddhist, ancient Norse, Greek, Zoroastrian, Sikh, etc.

We just don't have time to cover all of that, so why should we cover any one specifically at all?

Oh, that's fracking right, because Christians want their religion, and only theirs, cemented and enforced in our schools and government.

Who said that?

I'd want all religions taught.

Surely schools could get through all major religions within 4 years of highschool.
No, not all major religions, all religions we know of, ever.

Popularity does not equal validity.

So you learn ALL Instruments in music?
All art styles in Art?
All sports in PE?

No, you learn the major ones.
Right, but schools [public schools, at least] are required to take a neutral position on issues such as religion. Obviously they don't have to be neutral in music and art class.

I like how they wait to address the problem until the forums are useless and members are abandoning the sinking ship.

Fail.

I also can't help but feel this song has fat-acceptance written all over it.
It does. What's wrong with that?
Because being fat is unhealthy.
I think that would depend on how fat/what you considered to be fat.
True. But it's not the marginally-overweight people who champion this song; it's those who are severely obese who use it to say "SEE SHE SAYS I'M PRETTY!"

The Flood / Re: What shows/movies do you recommend on Netflix?
« on: October 07, 2014, 12:25:55 PM »
Good stuff so far, I'm going to make a watch list out of all this. Some movies and TV shows (Burn Notice) aren't on Netflix in britbongistan, apparently.
Try the chrome/firefox extension Hola Unblocker, or if you want to shell out a couple bucks each month, adfreetime is a great service for unblocking regional restrictions.

Are you sure that will work? It doesn't actually show up in search results.
Burn Notice shows up in my search [in the US], so it should do the same if you set your location to US.

Marijuana never being legalized, gay marriage being fully legalized, harsher prison sentences.
Interesting. Why are you against marijuana legalization?
I don't know, maybe I'm just using my own personal bias because I personally would never use it. I just think things would get out of hand fast if it was fully legalized, and maybe it's not in someone's best interest to start using it( then again you can say the same about about alcohol and tobacco) I'm a registered Democrat though...this is why I'm confused politically haha.
This is just my personal opinion, so take it as such.

The legality of marijuana has no bearing on my desire to use it. Recreational use is not legal in CA, and while I have used it on several occasions, I probably wouldn't in the future. I just don't like it. If it became legal, I wouldn't be any more inclined to use it than I was before.

It's based off observation and math
Except there's literally no observation or math involved

Creationism is inherently unscientific and you cannot employ the scientific method. Thus, it shouldn't be taught in science class.
But that's implying that evolution is scientific. What evidence is there for evolution besides fossils that can't even be accurately dated?

Here's some more:

Luther, Californication, Idiot Abroad, American Horror Story, Bojack Horseman

Happy Valley is another Netflix-produced show that is supposed to be good, but I haven't seen it yet.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

Camnator, you just aren't mature enough to debate with. No matter how unbiased and factual anybody's argument is, you go straight to saying the government and Obama are murderers and thieves. Income tax isn't theft. If it wasn't for the income tax, you wouldn't have roads, schools, hospitals, firefighters, police.

This just isn't a serious conversation. You live in this fantasy where you think people are responsible and good, but at the same time condemn every police officer and politician and call them thieves and murderers. It's an extremism which has no place in intelligent discussion. Are cops murderers and thieves? A lot of them are. Is the government corrupt? Of course. But when you go to this comic book extreme of good and evil and contradict yourself in every post, we're just going around in circles.

Not trying to insult you at all. But I'd rather not make past mistakes and waste time debating and arguing with you. I did it years ago, you're still the same stubborn person stuck living in a world of extremes. I won't be responding to your posts or debating anything, because it isn't a debate. It's just you pushing your beliefs in people. Facts are irrelevant to you.

Education. It desperately needs to be revamped.
Real talk. It's too bad that everything we do is so entrenched in how we used to do things. Education is one of the least flexible industries I have ever had experience with.

« on: October 07, 2014, 10:46:29 AM »
Meanwhile.. in the same location.. cost of all goods/living goes up $5 more dollars. I know.. Let's raise it some more!
Not true.
Do tell

What people fail to realize is that raising the minimum wage on a local scale usually boosts the local economy...if that wage stays isolated to that locale (i.e. the cities surrounding the area don't raise theirs).

Problems with raising the minimum wage come into play when it's raised on a state or national level.
So then tourists who come from poorer areas will have less buying power? Awesome!
The difference is that tourists choose to vacation in these places, and it's only for a limited time. The people who live and work in these areas need the bump in pay in order to stay living there. Often, moving out of the area isn't an option when your whole life is already established there.

If I live in backwoods Mississippi, I don't go to San Francisco expecting everything to cost the same.

I'm comfortable sharing a certain amount of personal information online. My full name, home address, place of work, etc, isn't part of that given how some users have used what I *do* share to try to track me down.
