Obviously I'm super into it, but I love hearing about new tech stuff. Google had a bunch of big news last week [Nexus 6/9/player, Android 5.0] that would be fun to talk about.

You can choose music to save locally so you can still listen without an internet connection.
Oh right. I forgot about that too

How worth it would you say Google Music is, Max? It's all streaming, right?
It's both. You can upload 20k of your own songs for free to their servers, and stream them to your device(s) without a subscription. If you pay the $9.99, you can also stream music you don't own just like Spotify/Rdio/etc does.
I got in when GPM was just announced and did a introductory price of $7.99/mo if you signed up in the first 90 days or whatever. So that's a bonus for me, but I think I'd still use Google over Spotify, et al, if I were paying the usual $9.99
Thanks. I don't usually listen to a lot of music I don't have on my phone, but I might consider something like this.
The nice thing about uploading your stuff is that you don't have to waste your storage space on your phone with music. The only drawback is if you're traveling/flying/in an area with no reception/wifi then you can't stream the stuff you uploaded.
Yeah, that is the one issue I have with streaming music, having to rely on an internet connection. How much data would you say it uses?
The app lets you pick low/med/high quality. When I have it set to low, it doesn't use a substantial amount of data.

You can't just fix depression with smiles and sunshine
Not only that, but it either has a neutral effect, or often makes everything worse.
I have friends and family that suffer from depression. Hearing "just cheer up!" a thousand times helps nothing, and can drive them deeper into their hole.
Indeed, anecdotally I have never once seen it make things better. From a personal note it simply made me angry, and I see that effect in other people I know. It never comes off as caring or helpful but as a smug facetiousness of 'I'm happy and you aren't, so why don't ya just cheer up?' even if that's the exact opposite of the real intention.
Exactly. I doubt he'll read this, so I'll share it -
My younger brother [now 17] has been suffering from depression for several years now. On top of some medical issues, he's also dealing with being trans. My family opted for homeschooling when his medical issues were keeping him out of classes too often, so he pretty much never leaves his room, and doesn't have any friends.
I try to be optimistic about it all, but things are pretty rough for him, and I know "cheer up, bro" isn't going to help anything.
Ouch :l
Has he been seeing a doctor/psych about the depression/trans? I would be pretty surprised if they hadn't <.<
Yeah he has, for both. He's certainly doing better than, say, a year ago, but it's a long road.

It's something we all experience as people at one time or another; same with depression
Depression isn't just being bummed out or going through a rough patch. You realize this, right?

Because flooding the market with kids educated in only a handful of subjects is stupid.
But STEM majors can do all kinds of different shit
What can English majors do besides write? They can't even teach without an education degree.
Not really. STEM majors can do what their major is, mostly. If your education is in Electrical Engineering, you can't be an accountant. English majors aren't limited to only writing a book. Press releases, advertising copy, etc, there's all kinds of different writing that isn't chugging away on the next novel that nobody will read.

I'm not discussing the person or the psychological issues, just the act of suicide itself.
It's kind of disingenuous to isolate the act of suicide from all those other factors, because those factors are what [usually] drives someone to suicide.
not everybody who kills themselves are mentally ill.
A pretty overwhelming majority are, I assume.

I don't know what I'm looking at...
it looks like thin beef slices with lettuce, sauce, etc, on naan?
Yep that is what a donair is. Now that you mentioned Naan, i want some Nihari, with seasonings like green chili, coriender leaf, garlic. Or Haleem.
Naan is a totally underrated bread. I wish more white people used it for stuff.

Nice and now i wonder if i should switch to google music or stay on spotify. Two great services.
I haven't used Spotify in a few years, but I find the content to be roughly the same. But a little bit ago, Google acquired Songza, which should really boost the radio/shuffle/smart playlist function. I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I wasn't even trying to get any comments, I just wanted to prove a point!
God damn low lives are writing several replies all over the thread, and I'm not interested in any one of them. Please stop.
What point are you making? Why post a thread if you don't want replies?

They went (sort of) by choice as immigrants.
I mean, if you call being loaded up on boats and sold to the highest bidder [assuming you didn't die on the boat] "immigration", then...sure.
He's referring to Jews, not black people.
Woops. The "they" threw me off.

You believe that at the beginning, there was nothing, and from that an explosion happened?
Anytime someone says this I become certain they don't know what they are talking about.
Quite.

"The sins of my father are not my own" is highly relevant here.
Listen, slavery was shitty. In fact, it contributed to the socio-economic problems that a lot of black Americans still experience. But I don't think compensation for something your ancestors went through is the way to go about making up for slavery.

Perhaps you don't realize that it isn't Christians I have a problem with, but the fact they often try to push their morals and beliefs on others.
Hey, I agree with you. But I've seen plenty of atheists who try and push their thoughts and degrade anybody that follows religion
Because some people are dicks. No group is free from them. But I was talking about more big-picture stuff; things that effect people more directly, like laws.
