I'm just going to quote this Common Core doesn't change any mathematical functions. Traditional addition and subtraction is still taught. Number lines were use before Common Core, too.
Number lines aren't new, and traditional math isn't going anywhere. Shut the fuck up about the number line.

The thing I don't like about Common Core.. is we should be striving for the most efficient and simple way on solving a mathematical problem. I've seen that number line crap (or however the teacher is trying to present it) in action and thinking to myself, "That takes twice as long to get the same answer as just stating 30+5 is 35"
So much this. We need to be preparing children for the real life, that means teaching applied skills. In an everyday work scenario, a person will either pull out a calculator or quickly jot down a problem like 2+2x4(5-3) and solve it that way. It's simple, time saving, and the best way to do math.
You are so goddamn wrong. How the fuck can a person apply a skill that he doesn't even have?
. . . . . .
School=Education Education=Teaching Teaching=Learning math Learning math=Being able to add, subtract, divide, multiple
And how, exactly, do you expect little kids to apply arithmetic when they don't understand it?
School=Education Education=Teaching Teaching=Learning math Learning math=Being able to add, subtract, divide, multiple
So then why the fuck are you against using more than one example to teach children?
I'm not. I'm against the more complex and impractical form being taught. Traditional math has worked for centuries; if it isn't broke then don't fix it
So then why are you against number lines? They have also been used for centuries.

Repeating the same thing doesn't answer the question.

Why are people so focused on this number line thing? Did you not have number lines in school? This isn't a new standard for Common Core. They aren't replacing algebra with number lines.

Well, since I can't remember number lines at all, that leads me to believe either we never used them or it was briefly and after it was affirmed that nobody in the class had an easier time with it we went on to using the green foam blocks that pretty much anyone with a brain can understand.
Indeed. I'm not saying number lines aren't stupid, just that they existed in the classroom as a teaching tool long before Common Core.
They seem far more prevalent in Common Core, though.
Different teachers use different teaching methods in different subjects. Common Core doesn't demand usage of the number line any more or less.

Yes, but it's greatly putting more emphasis on number lines while setting the traditional way in the back
No it isn't.

Damn. Looks like the girlfriend is going to be busy today.
why's that?
For privacy reasons, I wont say what she does or who she works for, but she works along with the Wichita PD for investigations and cases.
FAA? I remember you a while back saying you were visiting your GF in D.C. Like over half of people in D.C have government jobs
I will say that it's a government job, yes. And yeah she did her masters in DC, and now works in Wichita.
Confirmed Max's GF works for Shadow Government codename elluminity
OH SHIT *dashes out the back door, into the night*

Mad Max
Obviously the correct answer
How do you think this upcoming remake is going to be?
I'm skeptical. I want it to be good, but something tells me it wont live up to the original, like most reboots.

Asylum was the best season by far.
The Coven killed it for me though. I haven't been watching Freak Show because I'm afraid it sucks like Coven did.
It's better than Coven. Asylum and Murderhouse were the best, though

I love it. Coven was the weakest season, IMO, but the rest have been very good.

The Republican deputy whip of the Georgia Senate complained that racially diverse DeKalb County was making it too easy for minorities to cast ballots by allowing voting in a mall close to predominantly African-American churches. ..........
Aren't you supposed to make it easy for your citizens to vote? You know, considering that making them jump through a bunch of hoops and making them go out of their way to participate is only going to turn them away from the process.
...not when those citizens can pull the chair out from under you.

To the people who claim to not care for the military or say it's unnecrssary, would you rather us just dismantle our military altogether? Do you think we even need a military post WWII or just maintain a guard?
I'm pretty sure nobody thinks we should dissolve the military entirely.
So just maintain a national guard? Given the situation in the Middle East (Isis, al Qaeda, etc) it'll be tough for any nato country to stay passive.
Why do we need to intervene? There's obviously no solution. It's a shitty situation, but it just needs to burn itself out.

wow the level of acceptance towards gay people here is shocking. I'm leaving this liberal hell hole

Nah - he needs to mention how he rose from a ghetto neighborhood, has a great life with a supermodel class wife and works for the NHL.
Now you guys are riding his dick.
Nah, that's gay, bro.
It sure is. Insulting people behind their backs is gay.
It's not "behind their back" if they can read it here. I'm not hiding anything from him.
Are we seriously going to argue about this? Coming from the guy that always complains about arguments this is pretty ridiculous.
He didn't post in the thread. You didn't reply to him. He may not even click this thread. As far as I'm concerned, it's behind his back.
Nobody gives a shit except for you.
Everybody should give a shit. Talking shit about somebody for no reason behind their back is one of the lowest things you can do.
And yet, it happens around here all the time. This isn't something new.
