Although same-sex couples can legally marry in Kansas after a string of court decisions, state agencies are not offering them the same treatment as newly married heterosexual couples.

State offices will not change their policies while the state appeals the federal ruling that overturned Kansas’ ban on same-sex marriage, the governor’s office said Wednesday.

For example, gay and lesbian Kansans can’t change their last names to that of their spouse on their driver’s licenses.

People who go into Division of Vehicles offices and request the change are being turned away, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Revenue confirmed Wednesday.

That's pretty fucked up.

For the same reason, we need to focus efforts on female students when it comes to managing oneself with alcohol.

The efforts need to not be solely on the education of female students, though. These fraternities that are known to be breeding grounds for sexual assault need to be dealt with as well.

Because frats are the only place where rape happens. Get real.
Nowhere in Icy's post did he say, or even imply, that frats are the only place where rape happens. Chill.

inb4 arm the teachers!
Why shouldn't we?

If you have not noticed, people target schools because they are gun free, meaning nobody will be able to stop them before they do some damage. When was the last time you ever heard about a person shooting up a gun show? Never. Know why? Because there are guns everywhere

It's interesting how we protect our sports stadiums, government building, monuments, hospitals, banks, airports, airplanes, and plenty of other things with armed security yet for some reason we can't do the same for our children
I wasn't aware politicians, sports players, lawyers, doctors, nurses, secretaries, pilots, hostess, bankers, janitors and caretakers all walk around packing.
Many actually do. Many also have the reliance of either police forces, federal marshalls, or private security all armed with guns
Public school funding is already bare-bones. Who is going to pay for armed security? Will teachers be compensated for carrying a firearm on campus due to increased responsibility and risk? Will they have to take firearm safety and training courses at regular intervals? Can they bring their own firearm or will the school issue them one?

I'm not really sure how you could Christmasfy my avatar...
I would put a silhouette of santa's sleigh and reindeer in the sky above him.

The Flood / Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
« on: November 20, 2014, 12:13:41 PM »
The weekend before turkeyday my friends and I have Friendsgiving, where we all get together and have our own Thanksgiving dinner. There's about 20-30 of us, delicious food, and a warm home.

As for actual Thanksgiving Day, I go to my parents' house and spend the day with them. The rest of my extended family lives in Ohio, so we only see them every few years.

In case someone wants a laugh on this Thursday -

Is Obama a President or King?
lol

Y'know, I see everyone talking about how Obama doesn't give a fuck about the Constitution, abusing his powers, etc.

If it's so obvious to even the layman that what he is doing is wrong, why hasn't he been removed from office yet? He's been at it for 6 years.
Not all E.Os=Unconstitutional

E.Os must have a Constitutional standing. Besides, Republicans will deny it but they rather much have Obama in officer than Biden when it comes down to it

Congress is more than welcome to pass laws to fix the problem, saving Obama from having to use executive orders. Of course, that would require Congress to do something....

Sorry, the House to do something.
And how do you expect Congress to do anything when Obama keeps passing E.Os and not playing ball with them?
It's not like Obama is acting before Congress even has a chance to do something. They've had years to fix this, and have actively chosen not to.

5062
Gotta say, I agree.

There aren't too many negatives about it.
Of course you do.

If it's anything that takes jobs from us it's having a shit load of things being made in China. That right there is talking far more jobs away from us than those illegals that are most likely also doing jobs you, I and anybody else doesn't want to do. The other things about illegals is that a decent amount of their money most likely stays in the country. With China on the other hand it's being spent on their workers making our things.
Outsourcing is a good thing. Having good produced as cheaply as possible makes everybody wealthier. Switching to protectionism and hiking tariffs only depresses consumer surplus.
I hate when people push for the whole 'Made in the USA' thing. Sorry, I don't want to pay $30 for something that I can buy on Amazon for $12 shipped.

Essentially, if a squatter lives in a property long enough, and the owner does nothing about it, he could end up owning that property. The state specifies exactly what a squatter must do to take eventual legal ownership of a property. Generally, to gain possession, a squatter must make property tax payments over a continuous 5-year time period.
Yes, but has he squatted there and made property tax payments over 5 years?

Serious / Re: Is Education a Fundamental Right?
« on: November 20, 2014, 10:06:35 AM »
Yes, but it would probably be better provided through a much more decentralised and privatised system. People have the right to the capacity to pursue education.
We try that here, and like 90% of all private schools are religiously motivated in some sense. I just don't trust them to be objective.

4WD, reliable, with available parts?

That's oddly specific. I guess we all now know what car you own.
A couple years ago I owned a 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 FWD. Great SUV, but I think there were more parts available for the previous generation.
