Part of me agrees that businesses should be allowed to deny service to customers for any reason. The other acknowledges how fucking retarded some communities are, and it's very likely that segregated parts of town will develop based on what businesses serve what customers.
But that's kind of why we have the ability to set laws by city/state.
If things get out of hand, that's where the law steps in. If local law is being unreasonable, then you take it to the state level.
How do you legislate that, though? It's okay if only (x) number of businesses do it?

You mean aside from those who were forced into being "straight" by their friends, family, community, or conversion "therapy" group? Probably none. If you have the ability to choose to be straight or gay, you're probably bisexual, or somewhere in between all of that. If people are hard-wired to be attracted to one gender, why do people flip-flop on that?
You're not hard-wired to be attracted to ONE gender, but your sexual orientation IS hard-wired. Sexual orientation is a continuum; it's fluid. Some people are 100% straight. Some are 83%. Some are 5%. Some are 0%.

it's well known that many religious people interpret their particular holy book in ways that conform to their pre-conceived values. taken at face value the bible literally says that homosexuality is a sin and an affront to god.
