This is less broken.
Yet more broken than it really ought to be.
Yes, but fewer people are getting fucked over than before, so that's a good thing.
At the price of proper reform.

It's, fundamentally, a step in the wrong direction when it comes to healthcare reform. It may be good in the short- to medium-term, but all you're doing is kicking the problem down the line.
So in your opinion, is healthcare a problem that needs to be solved by a change in policy or by waiting for technology to make healthcare more accessible?
Well, for starters, what we need to do is stop calling them the same thing. Health insurance is not the same thing as the technology and medicine we posses to treat people.

We have great doctors, technology, and medicine. What we don't have is a good way for people to get the treatment they need without incurring substantial debt. People are scared to go to the doctor because of the cost. It shouldn't be that way.

My support of the ACA has nothing to do with economic factors.
I'm curious as to on what basis healthcare initiatives enjoy your support then.

Economics is the main determining factor of the success of a policy.
I support the ACA for a number of reasons:

- You can no longer be denied based on previous conditions
- Expanded mental health coverage
- You can be on your parents' coverage until you're 26
- Raised the minimum to qualify for Medicaid if you can't afford your own insurance

I'm sure there's some other major points I'm missing.

But this has nothing to do with how successful the policy is. Just that I support it.

Kinder is retarded but holy shit Max and Challenger it's not your job to defend an idea that is brutally retarded like this one is.
But I do actually like the ACA, for the most part. It's a step in the right direction.

What we had before was broken. This is less broken.
Why do most economists disagree with that though?
So because "economists disagree" means I can't like it? My support of the ACA has nothing to do with economic factors.

"But as the Supreme Court has now authoritatively ruled, the Obamacare individual mandate, requiring workers to purchase the health insurance the government specifies each family must buy, is a tax.  And that tax applies to the middle class and working people." Health insurance is a tax? LOL DROPPED

I've watched the State of the Union. Not sure why you linked me the script.

"Obama has focused on taxing 529 plans because a large number of families that use them are relatively high-income. Wealthier families benefit disproportionally from the current tax-free status of these plans, since they would pay a higher marginal tax rate if the plans were taxed like income." What's the problem?

Nothing correlates with Obama's plan here. These are pretty long term trends we're seeing here and have not been influenced by something Obama has said recently.

And your last link has absolutely nothing to do with Obama's plan.

Where exactly was your argument there? This is just embarrassing.
But...mad.

isn't there an app that allows people to listen in on the police radio? I remember downloading it during the Boston bombings
Probably. Some police channels aren't blocked. My local PD's is, though, so I couldn't try it even if I wanted to.

The Flood / Is Waze [map app] a threat to cops?
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:30:35 AM »
Quote
Sheriffs are campaigning to pressure Google Inc. to turn off a feature on its Waze traffic software that warns drivers when police are nearby. They say one of the technology industry's most popular mobile apps could put officers' lives in danger from would-be police killers who can find where their targets are parked.

Waze, which Google purchased for $966 million in 2013, is a combination of GPS navigation and social networking. Fifty million users in 200 countries turn to the free service for real-time traffic guidance and warnings about nearby congestion, car accidents, speed traps or traffic cameras, construction zones, potholes, stalled vehicles or unsafe weather conditions.

To Sergio Kopelev, a reserve deputy sheriff in Southern California, Waze is also a stalking app for law enforcement.

There are no known connections between any attack on police and Waze, but law enforcers such as Kopelev are concerned it's only a matter of time. They are seeking support among other law enforcement trade groups to pressure Google to disable the police-reporting function. The emerging policy debate places Google again at the center of an ongoing global debate about public safety, consumer rights and privacy.

Waze users mark police presence on maps without much distinction other than "visible" or "hidden." Users see a police icon, but it's not immediately clear whether police are there for a speed trap, a sobriety check or a lunch break. The police generally are operating in public spaces.

I'd like to see Serious go back the way it was before. Obvious bait threads get kicked out.
No shitposting, none of that.
I'm inclined to agree. The amount of new posts is pretty shallow.
