Personally, I don't think it's all that peculiar that they don't give any amount of shits about little ol' you. Can only imagine what those fuckers have to sift through on a day to day basis. I'd never expect them to even acknowledge me these days, especially if I broke rules put in place to protect the innocence (or what little to none they have left) of hordes of young desticles who've got a good few years before their balls drop.

That's not what you said 5 minutes ago. Texting and driving means that YOU aren't looking at the road or being a careful driver, and YOU are putting yourself and other people in danger. Which I guess could be an accurate comparison to pulling a gun out at an armed intruder.
What I'm trying to get at, is that being defenceless is reckless and foolish. Why else do we wear seat belts? Why else do we have a fire extinguisher or fire hydrant. To be prepared for the unexpected
I won't debate the purpose of seatbelts or fire extinguishers, since those are designed for the purpose of saving or protecting people. Guns however, are designed specifically to kill or injure people. Even in a self-defense scenario, you will still have to kill or injure that person who has the gun pulled on you, and he will be well aware of that and will panic, either shooting you or fleeing. But is it really worth gambling your life over how an armed intruder will react your pulling a gun on him?

And most shootings end up with 1 or 2 deaths, if any. And the ones where more people have died, the attacker made preparations for dealing with carrying citizens.

That's questionable, because they are not exactly the best, but certainly the only ones who are capable of spreading, and took the opportunity to do so. Microsoft isn't the best what an OS has to offer (nor any other OS for that matter; just for those who expect a lecture on Linux at this point) it's just that Windows is everywhere, and people might mistake that for being the case.
Microsoft is good at selling Windows. Windows 8 had its sales despite being shit wrapped with a pretty-looking box, and people still use it. Why? Because it's popular, because Microsoft devours violently its competition.
I don't entirely trust them either, but they have the best product on the market.
I tried the linux game for a while back in the early 2000's. The driver support for basic things like wifi was a pain in the ass and everything had a high learning curve. I know package installation and driver support has gotten better since then, but the things I use the most just aren't available on linux - current MS office, current adobe products, most of my games...

well free windows 10 means that MS have to make their money another way so let's think. if they're trying to reach out to as many people as they can and they're giving away the software for free it obviously means ads everywhere.
I think they're just trying to win back customers that they lost when Window 8 released.
I think Windows 8 was a mis-step. I understand what they were trying to do, but given that an overwhelming majority of their users are desktop and laptop users, not tablet and phone users, it was silly to design an entire OS around a touch-based interface. Win8/8.1 works great on the Surface, but it just doesn't translate to regular desktop mode with a mouse.

It isn't clear if Myerson's comments only pertain to China, or to all Windows users worldwide. We have reached out to Microsoft for clarification, but haven't yet heard back. Myerson's wording certainly sounds like this will affect all Windows users worldwide.
Updated: ZDNet's Ed Bott got a response from a Microsoft spokesperson, confirming that the free upgrade path is indeed available for all pirates everywhere, and not just in China.
As you may have heard before, Microsoft has long had an issue with Windows piracy, especially in developing markets. Back in 2011, then-CEO Steve Ballmer estimated that only 10 percent of users in China were actually paying for Microsoft software. Rather famously, one of the main reasons that Windows XP had such a massive share of the desktop market for so many years was due to rampant piracy in China. A more recent study by the BSA says that 74 percent of commercial software in China is unlicensed.
But now, according to Myerson, it's time to "re-engage" with Chinese users of Windows—and that means a free, legitimate upgrade license for Windows 10, even if you're a pirate. We don't yet know how this program will be implemented, but presumably it's an extension of the previously announced program, which will see Microsoft offer free upgrades to Windows 10 during the first year of availability.
