Let's say I have mono-dark
Can I use mega-gyarados?
Basically I'm asking if a pokemon changes types after mega evolving, can we use them if the mega satisfies our team type? Good question.
You cannot. The 'mon has to have been that type originally, before any mega evolutions or other type-altering abilities. However, if your type was Flying, you could still use Mega Gyarados--because Gyarados was originally Flying.

Fighting is actually my favorite type so I was hoping on getting that, assuming we end up getting to choose instead of randomly assigned.

verbatim is setting up a rules thread, taking care of the roster, and random assignment. I think the actual tournament will be sometime this week

Okay, here's how I think we should do it... If you are unsatisfied with your type, you can have one reroll. But whatever your reroll is, you have to stick with that type. If we're going to be assigned random types, then at least make it so that nobody gets assigned a shitty typing that is going to put them at a disadvantage, such as Rock or Ice. Nooo, that's lame. There are plenty of great Rock/Ice types... Even Bug types. The whole idea is that we're all kind of disadvantaged in the sense that we can't all get what we want anyway.
I got Ice last time I did something like this, and I won, so... Not to mention, we're doing round robin, so one loss against a poor matchup isn't going to kill you.
true although whoever gets Ice is gunna be hella disadvantaged Also I think for the sake of fun we should have a super lax ban list. Like no uber legendaries so whoever gets dragon/physic wont bulldoze everyone with a team of all legends, but people can use mega khan and greninja if they want

The way we've done it before was we allowed ourselves to change our team's members in between matches. That is, each match is a two-out-of-three battle, and when the battle is over, you're allowed to change your 'mons, items, moves, etc. to suit your next opponent (you still have to stick within your type, though, obviously).
This adds mind-games, because you don't know what's up your opponent's sleeve. It's also more fair this way, because being locked into a single team for the entire match can lead to unlucky results (like going up against an entire team that is super effective against you). Sound good?

I've done stuff like this before, and it's super fun. We don't need eight people, but we should have at least four or six.
We shouldn't be able to pick our types, though. Should be randomized. And if this is a tournament, I'd strongly prefer that we do round robin instead of elimination.
But yeah, good idea.
hmm random would be fun. And yeah whatever everyone wants to do I'm fine with. Round robin would probably be the most fun since then everyone would get to face each other instead of somebody battling once and getting unlucky and being out
